The Lion King UK release pushed FORWARD!

Post by Matty-Mouse »

Great news for us peeps in the UK, "The Lion King" has been pushed forward to September 30th according to amazon.co.uk

What this exactly means (why disney/buena vista UK have decided to do this) I'm not sure but it will be nice to see what the release's scheduled for October/November/December are.

According to an article posted at DVDTimes this morning, it's still set for release at the end of October. The press release that they have on the site also says that it will have a "Disney Enhanced Theatre Mix" sountrack as well as DD5.1, but makes no mention of the dts track that was previously announced.

You can read the article here.

Aaagggghhh! We still get the "all new" Circle of Life video in the UK :x

I was hoping we would miss out on that little pleasure. Even having H from Steps would have been preferable to lots of little seen in the UK Disney Channel 'stars'.

We also seem to be getting the "Making of the Morning Report" - neither this or the new Circle of Life video have been passed by the BBFC yet.

I would guess, being as the French release is getting a DTS track and all of the recent UK Disney releases except Beauty and the Beast have included a DTS track we will be getting one. Disney UK are notoriously lax when it comes to their annocements. Even the lack of DTS on the box art doesn't mean anything - none of the previous DTS releases have had DTS on the front of the box.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

The Lion King Brazilian DVD includes DTS

Post by fltp »

Hi! Yesterday i got my Lion King DVD here in Brazil and, surprisingly, it includes the DTS Disney Enhanced Home Theater Sound ! I wasn't expecting for that since Disney haven't announced it (just like the audio commentary). The 2-Disc DVD is exactly the same as in the U.S., except for the DTS sound. We are able to see all the bonus features in English or Portuguese in both discs, which is great, considering that in previous 2-disc releases, Disney had put only the dubbed soundtrack in the second disc.
Unfortunately, as we all have known, the Original Theatrical Release is, actually, the I-Max Version, with the crocodiles changed and the new (but fantastic) waterfall in "Can you feel the love tonight". Another thing that is different is the Disney Opening Logo, which was changed from the blue one to the golden one (the same as in Dinosaur) :x .
The picture is superb, just like the sound.
If you want to know more details, just tell me!

Have a nice day! :)

Wow! This is great news... Is the DTS Track only in Portuguese or it's only in English? If it's in English, I may get the Brazilian edition as well... though my Collector's box will be arriving this week or next!

Lion King DTS Track

Post by fltp »

Hi, Joe!

The DTS Track is only in English, in both versions of the movie (Special and Original). The original mix is also included in English and Portuguese.
And it's interesting that the spanish track is not included, since the disc has its space filled by the DTS tracks, so this disc is exclusive for Brazil and is not the same for all Latin America.
I can't tell you how is the DTS track because I don't have a DTS receiver, although I intend to buy one, in a not so distant future... :)
Oh yes! At the beginning of the Special Edition we see "The Lion King - Special Edition", like the theater version for Beauty and the Beast - Special Edition.
Sadly, all the bonuses that you mentioned for the laserdisc weren't included, even that fantastic "Can You feel the love tonight - Early 1993 version"...
The trailers included are: "The Lion King 3 - Hakuna Matata", "Brother Bear" and "Finding Nemo". The marketing campaign for Brother Bear is also in a documentary! It's called "Disney and the animals", making references to Mickey, Bambi, Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmatians, Lion King and Brother Bear, showing some unfinished animation of the movie!

Thanks a lot for the information fltp!! Nice to see you around! I'm not the only Brazilian Disney fan here in this forum!
I'm happy that we are geting the DTS track - and it is the first Brazilian Disney DVD to have one! Let's hope this becomes a trend. I also liked that this time we can watch the extras in English - I'm not a big fan of dubbed things.
Oh, and about the "Special Edition" opening credits, it's nice to see they are including it here - "Beauty" didn't get neither the SE opening credits nor the "Silver Screen Partners" one.
Well, it seems Buena Vista got it right this time... better than the American version and even released first! But I really want that wonderful pack, but I may get the Brazilian version before it goes out-of-print!

Well, thanks a lot fltp! I hope we may chat in the future! :-)

I'm happy you liked the informations!
I didn't get the U.S. Pack because I'm saving cash to buy Sleeping Beauty and three of the Disney Treasures. Well, when you receive your pack, please, tell us how is the book and those drawings!

Hey ftlp, I've just sent a Private Message to you. :)

Well, I'm also saving money for the Treasures and for some other Brazilian discs, that's why I'm not geting the Brazilian Lion King any time soon.

Hi fltp, glad to see that you're enjoying the movie.

I have just one question: Does the disc freeze for a second during chapter 3? One of the reviewers said that the disc freezes after the pouncing sequence. Apparently, this is a result of the DVD player switching from the new morning report sequence back to the "original theatrical version." Just wondering.

Hi!

Yes, I noted that, but I thought that it happened because of my DVD player. It freezes for less than a second and it's almost imperceptible. The freezing occurs in the Special Edition at 11:33min and in the Original Theatrical Release at 10:48min., exactly in the end of Morning Report.
So... I think that the only thing different between these versions is the first ten minutes and the rest is the same "file" :o !

Yep. Sounds like they've done the same trick on on Beauty and the Beast - hiding the break point at the layer change.

Ok, thanks everyone. :) I need to read about seamless chapter branching now. I thought the video would pause at the beginning of the Morning Report. It's good to hear that the pause is short. I don't think the short pause would distract me from enjoying the movie.

Update:
I found a good explaination at: http://www.dvdangle.com/dvd_tech/explan ... ching.html

I think only the Chapter 3 "file" is different. All the others might are the same. That means only about 1 minute and 30 seconds is different while the rest of the film is the same. Once I get the Region 1 DVD from DisneyStore.com, I'll let you know what I find out.

My computer's DVD player doesn't "freeze" in chapter 3 at all. Maybe the DVD drive has a large buffer that helps eliminate chapter and layer pauses.

I noticed that the Special Edition version is under title 35 while the original theatrical version is under chapter 36.

When I played the DVD using Windows Media Player 9, the information page said "unknown DVD" Looks like the movie database that Windows Media player hasn't been updated yet.

Update:
I found out that my DVD drives have a 2 MB buffer.

Eh, it looks like the audio does drop at the end of the pouncing sequence when I'm watching the original theatrical mix. In fact, the home theater system's text display goes blank, then redisplays [Dolby Digital 3/2.1] again. Weird huh? I only miss one word from Mufasa.

UK seems to be getting the collector's gift pack as well:

I wonder if it has the same contents as the US one.
