That's awesome.

My suggestion is to have them in more than one format:

VOB: For those with DVD burners who want it in the best possible quality

mpeg: For those who would settle for VCD

divX: For those who don't want to download a big file

And maybe BT can be used to transfer them.

Well I received the tape from Jebsdad today and have converted both the complete, uncensored "The Castaway" cartoon, as well as "The Story of Menstruation" short. They are in VCD .mpg format, NTSC. If anyone needs PAL I could easily make that. HOWEVER, I have no way to share them with everyone. Class316 had a good idea with bittorent, does everyone know how to use that? It's actually extremely simple. Or, does anyone have access to web space that would house around 200mb? I know tripod, aol, etc. wouldn't go near that.

The files are roughly 70mb and 100mb each, so for dialup users this could be a problem. Again, as Class316 said I could re-encode them in Divx, which would not be a problem at all. Anyway, I'd like to get everyone's feedback

Bittorrent works fine for me, if it's possible I would also like to have mpeg2 versions of the files. Why not make one torrent with VCD and one for DVD?

For the castaway shot I was thinking more in the lines of just the 3 second segment (with maybe a couple of frames of the shots before and after it surrounding it to know exactly where it goes) in full mpeg2 resolution instead of quarter resolution VCD, that shouda ended up about 1 to 2 MB, at the most 3, if done in b/w. That's up to a 70 to 1 size reduction of file size, as the rest of it is on the dvd already :P

but that's just me..

;)

I guess there could be something for those who just one that scene. But I (and I'm sure many others) prefer to have a complete version. I have a complete uncensored/uncut Clock Cleaners and Three Little Pigs on DVD, so this would go nicely with them and my treasures set.

I have watched the complete version of the castaway now. The most amazing thing is that anyone could notice that 3 seconds was missing. I could hardly see the difference when I compared the two versions.

On the next treasure I would like jebsdad to select the cartoons instead of Leonard Maltin! :)

I downloaded both.

Maybe I'll think about putting them up on FTP or IRC or something.
