Hello all, i just got the 2 disk dinsosaur dvd on special, 25% off:)
i think i saw it once and really, it was quite forgettable-
Watching the film (the visuals are breathtaking) its unfortunate that the directors seemed too focussed on them, rather than the plot
watching the previews or stand alone scenes, this movie could have been huge-
i guess it was badly aimed/released/timed/story editied
anywayyyyyssss--- what year was it released? 2000 or 1999? i coulndt find a review of it here, nor could i find it on the animated films list- it wasnt even on the other films list!

I watched it for the first time a couple of months ago and I was quite impressed. I guess I was not expecting much. The visuals were excellent. The plot wasnt great but not the first animated movie you could say that about. Monsters Inc. didnt have a great plot, but the visuals kept me interested the whole time.

You really ought to read the Dinosaur art book. They explain how the idea began with the guys who made Robocop, they intended it to be a wordless, documentary type of film. It went through 'developmental hell' for years and years until it evolved into the movie you see today. Althought the plot is similar to Land Before Time, the visuals really stand out and make this film worth owning.
Re: Dinosaur
It can be found on the "Other Animated Films" list, as #13 here:Sh00tingstar wrote:anywayyyyyssss--- what year was it released? 2000 or 1999? i coulndt find a review of it here, nor could i find it on the animated films list- it wasnt even on the other films list!

The film was released to theaters in May of 2000. Nearly five years later, I'm still frustrated that such a visually powerful and awe-inspiring production could wind up feeling drab and forgettable. There are some really special sequences in Dinosaur, but as a whole it does not live up to its potential. That middle section treking across the desert just loses the audience that it grabs with the amazing opening scenes. While I don't think it's a bad movie by any stretch, those breathtaking visuals and the terrific score by James Newton Howard (one of his best) are just screaming out for a script with more creative spark. It could have and really should have been something quite spectacular rather than essentially a disappointing project that led to the closing of a budding new Disney department.
