The General Discussion has returned...mostly
Well, our 20 months of past discussions in General Discussions have been restored. The only thing is that the last 5 days' worth of posts are now missing.
Firstly, this means snowbot's thread again is lost. I apologize to you and hope you have something (or someone else does) that you can copy and paste. I just lost my cached version that I tried to recover for you. I'm really excited about that new thread idea.
What else was lost? Anything posted within since last Saturday, I guess. It's ultimately a lot easier to swallow than the entire General Discussion forum.
Thanks to you all for being patient and understanding and to my webhost for pulling a nice recovery!

The most recent backup that could be found (besides the one from early this morning which was troubled) was from last Saturday. Anything posted since then in all the forums is gone. Major bummer, yes. But everything from April 2003 through last Saturday in General Discussion that was missing has been restored.Just Myself wrote:All the forums are missing posts from the past couple of days... what the hell happened Luke??![]()

I'm very sorry for the inconvenience. Troubling phpBB situations beyond anyone's control late last night were behind this, but everything should be running fine now.
I've got a few threads that were deleted saved in my cache that I'll try to reconstruct. Anyone else who does can help out too!

mmm theres also about 10-12 new members that will have to re register.
I lost 26 dethimessages.
Does this mean I'll have to tell Paka I looooooove her again?
If anyone has some of the other members posts that were lost saved somewhere (i have at least today's Forum Problems topic saved partially) what do we do? I can repost my part, but what about the others? do i send copy pastes to members so they post them again one by one, or send the whole file to Luke or I post a long post saying this was the way it was on Black Thrusrday or what?

It's all Doc Browns Time machine's fault! we have to live our past few days all over again!

If you're up for it, post anything you can find and you can specify who said what in whatever way you'd like. To see how I've done it, check out the newly-posted (reconstructed) threads in General Discussion, Off-Topic, and Polls & Games.deathie mouse wrote:mmm theres also about 10-12 new members that will have to re register.

of time warps and rabbit holes lost clocks and reverse poles
Well you can all post again your messages if you remember them
Not only recent signatures were reset (so just do them again) and forum threads, but also private messages done after the weekend are gone and erased ones are back from the dead so you might like to check that to see anything important there is missing too while your memory is fresh instead of finding out a few days or weeks from now
Threads or messages i remember missing stuff now:
on Genreral Discussions:
The Miyazaki thread had a few posts lately, specially one very good exposition by a new member (i think) with a lot of o's in his name, Paka remastered it for smoother presentation (maybe she has a copy of it? *hope ) and castleinthesky and I had a little bit exchage about Mononoke Hime 2 disc ed.
The Poppins OAR thread. I'll take care of my posts there (cell regeneration, baby) when i put the piccies i made yesterday. I have mvealf's original capture too if for some reason he wouldn't have it still.
On Off Topic i remember the thread about the DVD scratches/fingerprints /400 disc changer/5.1/stereo connection. The last post was asking about LFE crossover points. So post the topic/questions again!
I hope 2099 reposts his Olympic art censoring news and Lohan interview again.
The thread about SocialStatus/pesonality should be restarted and results reposted!
And, I think anäel's passionate post among other interesting ones there too is gone
I have page 1 of the Forum Problems topic messages saved as a text file with messages from Luke, Wonderlicious, 2099net, Sir Hawkins, (Snowboat's poignant sad mickey pic i don't have), Jimmy Jack Junior, Disney Guru, and Paka with her Tabula Rasa. So mmm if anyone cared we could recreate it by everybody reposting what they said in arrival order.
If that's too much trouble i can copy paste it then
The last couple of posts were gone before i hit save (or during, as the white dwarf was imploding then while the Black Worm Hole was being unfolded to normal space again )
Any other bits and pieces missing you may remember seeing, or had posted, while the memory is still fresh well just grace us with your uninhibited prose again
Jump back a little day to the left and Lets do the site warp agaiiin

I'm sorry to hear that some people lost their threads.
The only importaint thread I lost is my home theater and fingerprints thread. I'll need to repost it. Unfortunately, I lost the nice answers everyone gave.
Thanks for the update, and thanks for trying to retrieve a more recent backup of the forum. At least most of the messages in the General Discussion forum are still here.
Keep up the good work Luke.

It would have been nice if I had been given head's up that they had found a backup before they went through with restoring it. It would have been easy to save transcripts of non-GD threads then and reconstruct them. Oh well. People have been doing a pretty good job reconstructing from memory and cache. This kind of problem never happened before, and let's hope it never does again.

Woke up fell off the bed dragged a hand across my forehead
I'm aware of the problems on the forum.
Only thing that shouldn't be working now is General Discussion.
Hope to have it fixed soon.

I didn't expect it would take this long. The worst case scenario is probably that I'd just pay $15, and they'd be able to restore the database to when it was working right. I hope that's the worst case scenario, anyway.

As of now it looks like those posts cannot be retrieved. I don't know why, I don't know how. But everything in General Discussion seems to have been lost, and even the previous 104-page, 50000-post structure that was here after reyquila made his post this morning is gone.

The most recent backup is the same as this seemingly corrupted present database.

Well lets just erase the other forums too and start again then. We can forget Tangela and Basil even existed.

You know I agree with JJJ, why don't we just start all over again. And we can forget that Tangela, and that other guy ever existed. And we can just start from fresh.

I think there may be some merit in the "erasure" idea. Sure, it would really bug some of the more OCD posters to have all those threads gone (smiley was here), but I think it might be healthy to purge the entire place... And right at the corner of a new year, too.
My suggested theme... Ultimate Disney 2005: Tabula Rasa
For pete's sake, it's Latin... go look it up. :-p

And here's where the fabric of space began to rip again cus while I was postulating that I could probably regenerate my posts from scratch but would anyone want that
and asked Paka what was OCD
and then started waxing poetically about UD being like the Library of Alexandria and this event the equivalent to it's burning, would we then become like Disney archeologists looking for and salvaging ancient sacred scrolls but in any case I was sure the members would fill up the UD forums quckly enough again, while others where pondering and discussing Paka's Tabula Rasa suggestion there was a big flash of light and we found ourselves back in normal time, 5 days earlier. (But i didn't look any younger :/)
When i went to see if the final moments of this thread were saved, I found this message:
This thread no longer exists.
I love to turn you on
