Do you own Disney movies (animated) that you don't care for?
I thought that I'd ask this due to the fact that people have admitted to not liking certain Disney movies. Do you (want to) own the Disney movies you don't like? Personally, on DVD, no. I call the shots as I buy them. I have ones I'm not so hot on on video, but these were mainly gifts.
I like every Disney movie I own. I like every animated classic and many of their other films. I might regret buying a sequel before seeing it but I haven't done that yet.
I almost bought Muppet Christmas Carol and that would have been a regret. I love the movie but it's only in fullscreen on DVD and I'm buying widescreen now.
I wouldn't buy any that I hate.

Do sequels count? I own some of them because they were DISNEY!
I hate how Disney makes terrible sequels (Cinderella II for example)
And I'm regretting buying FULLSCREEN too!
I wish Disney would re-release all their movies and put them in Widescreen format. That'd be awesome!

i have all the classics on vhs (exept everything post pocahontas)
and the rest on dvd and i'm only replacing my tapes with special or platinum editions in the correct aspect ratio so i have about 12 of the animated (classics) i don't go for disney sequels (hope i never have to see cinderella 2 or jungle book 2)
There are still enough titles still on my wishing list , still holding out for lilo and stitch and pinocchio until those 2 disc editions come along.
I don't want to have to buy these titles 3 times over like with mary poppins

I don't own any of the so-called "Anthology" films of the mid-to-late '40s except for The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. They're not movies that are among my favorites, but they are something that I would like to have (particularly, in an unedited form) for their historical value and place among Disney's animation. There are some Disney films that I like enough to own, but haven't gotten around to yet like The Black Cauldron and The Fox and the Hound.
I can understand either outlook really. A complete Disney animated collection on DVD definitely has a great appeal, and for any fan of the studio's animation with the means to afford such a thing probably should jump at it. On the other hand, if you're on a limited budget, or you're only buying DVDs that will provide lots of replay value, then it doesn't make sense to buy movies you're not crazy about. For a long time, I had about a dozen DVDs (slightly less to slightly more), and they were all movies I really liked. That was a DVD collection I was completely happy with.
Now I have hundreds and there is no way I could watch every single movie and episode multiple times within a year. But it's like having a collection of great books - there's comfort in having them on the shelf and anytime a whim comes up to watch something, it only takes as long as it does to get to it on the DVD player and through the menu to watch it.
Sorry I'm straying from the actual question presented, but I think my answer applies to it and DVD collecting in general.

Most of the animated films have avoided incorrect fullscreen treatment. I think the only title we can say for certain should be in widescreen is The Fox and the Hound, and even some shadow of doubt arises there.RJKD23 wrote:And I'm regretting buying FULLSCREEN too!![]()

Or were you referring to the live action films that for quite a bit of time Disney had no qualms butchering in the name of "Fullscreen"?
Well i only have 13 disney dvds *hangs head in shame*, but lately i've just become interested of building up a collection of dvds, and have even wrote a list of dvds i want....hehe...
But yeh back too the question, the only dvd i sort of regret having is Recess: Taking the fifth grade, i loved Recess: Schools Out and when they said TTFG would be the last episode in a way i just had too get it. I was in a random record store one day when i noticed it and it was only £5 so i just brought it. But i just didnt think it was very good at all, im just glad i didnt spend alot more on it else then i would have been mad...
Sorry for going on!

Great replies Luke.
I have The Fox and the Hound in fullscreen and that's the only way I've seen it I believe. I don't regret buying it but I wish it was in its true aspect ratio. I doubt it was made in fullscreen was it?
I'm not happy that some of their really old movies are in fullscreen! Haha just kidding, I know ratios were quite different back in the day.

I agree - I have all the classics - but there are a few that I only watched once since I brought them.

I don't buy movies unless I feel I'll get significant rewatchability out of them. So there aren't any titles in my collection I dislike. However, there are a few I think are on the poor side, objectively. That includes stuff like Atlantis: The Lost Empire, The Three Caballeros and Shrek 2. They aren't really quality movies in my eyes, but they manage to be entertaining enough.

I am with Karlsen and really the Black Cauldron is the only one that I feel is a complete waste of time but it keeps my collection complete.

At the time I bought each DVD (I own all the Disney animated "classics" that have been released on DVD), I bought them (1) because they were Disney and (2) because I wanted to watch them at the DVD quality.
But there are tons of DVDs and VHS tapes that I own that I rarely find time to watch a second time. I do occasionally "thin the herd" by selling / giving away tapes and DVDs I am no longer interested in keeping. I once had over 1,000 VHS tapes of video ... it is now down to 200. My DVD collection is now over 300. So far, I have kept my Disney DVDs because I do feel I am interested in seeing them again ... sometime.
However, of the DVDs I have, TRON is probably the DVD I will wait the longest to watch again. I like it "OK" but I have so much other Disney and non-Disney animation and live-action that I continually can't find the time to watch even a small portion of what I own.

I don't own any Disney DVDs that I regret buying (though I don't own that many Disney DVDs).
I'm really picky when it comes to buying Disney DVDs and I only get those I know that I like (i.e., have seen before, etc.). I've angsted too much over other DVDs that I completely regretted getting and I don't wanna have to do that again.

Wherever. Whatever. Have a nice day.

I would like to keep a complete collection of all of the animated classics, becasue aside from the story and characters, I love to see the animation. There are films which hardly ever see the light of day like Melody Time, The Black Cauldron, The Fox and the Hound and Make Mine Music which all quite frankly bore me to tears! But when I do watch say for example the Black Cauldron, it is still amazing to me because of the quality of the animation. Say what you like about TBC but one thing nobody could deny is that is damn gorgeously animated!
Also I also like the films because of their historical value also in comparison to the other films. For example Make Mine Music being a casualty of the War and seing the progression the animators make from film to film!
However this is onlyl for the animated classics.
For films like the sequels and the 'other animtion' like Dinosaur, nightmare before xmas and the pixar films, I sort of pick and choose. I would like to see all of them at least once, and usually I just wait until I get them cheap in the sales. I have bought almost every sequel in the sales even though I have to wait longer I think renting is just stupid! The only sequels I have bought when they were first released are the ones I have been quite aure that they will be good, like 101 dalmatians 2, Mulan 2, the 3 musketeers and peter pan 2. And I haven't been disappointed yet. there are still some cheapquels I have yet to see and like I say I will buy them when they are cheap.
With the treasures series I will buy evry single volume, even though there are some that I knwo don't or won't get watched that often like Davy Crockett and The Mickey Mouse Club, I still like to have these, more for historical perspective than anything else. also because of the rarity of some of these things. I want to own every single short becuase i would like to have the complete collection of shorts, even though I know they won't get watched too often.
With live action I am less fussy. I do not care for many of the 80s 90s or 2000s films, with the excpetion of a few, the early 80s films like Watcher in the Woods, Tron, Dragonslayer a few odd films like Honey, I Blew up the Kid, Freaky Friday and Pirates of the Carribbean. My main interest lies between the 40s and the 70s. and still there arer some that I don't care to own. If Disney brings out a 2 disc set or at least a dvd with some bonus features it's safe to say I will buy it like Mary Poppins, Pollyanna, 20,000 leagues under the sea, Old yeller etc.
