I need HELP. Trying to find Humphrey the Bear/classic shorts
Hi,
I a new member and I was wondering if any of the Disney Cartoon
DVD have some of the old classic shorts on them. I'm referring to
The Ranger of Brownstone, In the Bag, Bear Pose. Anything with
Humphrey the Bear in them.
I know I rented the VHS version of these videos in the early 80's for
my kids but now I can't find them anywhere.
I've seen some new classic Disney DVD's come out but none of them
say they have these cartoon shorts on them. They basically say they
are about Mickey, Pluto or Donald Duck.
Any information would be appreciated.
T.J.

Hi there, welcome to the boards!
As far as I know those shorts have not been released on DVD. which is a shame because I used to watch those videos when I was a kid and would love to see them again. Maybe we will get them on a future treasures release!

I think this will all come clear when that mysterious "Assorted Treasure Set" will see the day of light. I hope that one will shown up in wave 5.
I made an analysis about it a year ago, maye it's of some interest :
- There are roundabout 24 Special Cartoons from 1939-1969, which doesn't include main characters like Donald, Mickey aso. (Morris Moose, Blue Coupe Susie, Elephant Goliath, Lion Lambert, Bull Ferdinand .....)
- 3 x Chip & Chap without Donald
- 2 x Bear Humphrey without Donald
- 3 x Figaro without Pluto
- 5 Donald Specials (Mathmatic Land, ..an Accidant ...)
- 2 Goofy Specials (Freewayphobia)
- Scrooge McDuck & Money
For the length of some cartoons, this could probably fill up to two Treasure sets.
Question : Would you prefer a Chip&Chap Treasure Set or should Disney release them in future Donald Sets, for the most are Donald cartoons.

Re: Disney Classic Cartoon Shorts
Hold that Pose is available on the "Complete Goofy" treasures collection, and it's also on the upcoming "Classic Cartoon Favorites Volume 3 Starring Goofy".tjhale wrote:I'm referring to

Beezy Bear is available (in pan & scan and without title cards) on a region 2 DVD called "Everybody Loves Donald".
Grand Canyonscope is available on the "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" DVD. That short features Ranger Woodlore and Donald Duck, but not Humphrey.
The other Humphrey cartoons are not on DVD - yet.
A good portion of the shorts you have listed will probably be included in an educational cartoons set (Freewayphobia, Donald in mathmagicland, Scrooge, etc.) purely a guess, but a good theme for a set.
That leaves the remaining 24 plus the other 8 which is a nice a and healty 32 that fits snugly..... except what about the more recent shorts like Lorenzo, Destino,or even A Small One? I would like to see these compiled as well.

I need HELP. Trying to find classic Humphrey the Bear shorts
I am trying to find the name of an animated movie that i believe to be by Disney. It is about 20+ yrs old. It begins with Jimminy Cricket doing the intro. Its about a clumsy bear and his antics during the opening days of fishing season.
I really enjoyed it as a child and I would like to share it with my little girl.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

It sounds to me like you're referring to the Bongo segment of Fun and Fancy Free. You can read a DVD review of the film (which is divided into two segments: "Bongo" and "Mickey and the Beanstalk") at this link: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/funandfancy.html and you can buy it from Amazon.com at the bottom of that page.
Attention Disney Aficionados! *** I Need Help!
This is my second post. I am trying to find the title for a Disney animation.
It is not Bongo. Its about a bear (or group of bears) in a national park who along with the park ranger prepare for trout fishing season. Its been years since Ive seen it but I think Jimminy Cricket does introduce it and I do remember one line of a song & dance the bears do when they are cleaning up the forest.
Here Goes:
First you take a rag-put it in a bag bomp-bomp......
Again, I would really appreciate any help.

EBC, I've merged your post with another thread started not long ago on the same topic by another member with a very similar forum name! We don't like to clog up the board with multiple threads on the same topic.
To answer your question, I believe you're referring to the 1956 short "In the Bag" starring Humphrey the Bear. As far as I know, it's not available on DVD and it was last released to VHS twenty years ago.
Welcome to the forum! Hope you'll stick around for more than just this one topic.

Sounds to me like what you originally saw was a cut and spliced edited TV version of a few Humphrey The Bear shorts, probably aired as part of a Wonderful World Of Disney segment ("The Ranger Of Brownstone"?).
It was often the case throughout the 80's with the early home video releases and even prior through TV broadcast, that Disney would often used cut up versions of different shorts along with reused character animation on bridging segments inbetween films or to serve as a longer-running narrative for these "cheater" cartoons. Jiminy Cricket and Ludwig Von Drake were two of the more popular characters implemented in these compilation films/shorts/dtv's, etc.
Your description above actually corresponds to two seperate Humphrey shorts specifically, "In The Bag" as Luke mentioned and "Hooked Bear" which was released theatrically a few months prior.
I suspect that what you are remembering was actually a longer running television episode which perhaps showcased both of these Humphrey cartoons if not more, and edited them together with Jiminy Crickett serving as a narrative to introduce and intertwine the shorts in place of the title cards and original opening sequences.
Your best bet if you're looking to own the Humphrey cartoons UNCUT and do not want to wait, would be to track down the original and long out-of-print, first-issue domestic video release of "Winnie The Pooh and Friends". It features three Humphrey shorts, two of which you seem to be referring to in your initial post above; "Hooked Bear" and "In The Bag".
I suggest trying Ebay, though these videos are considered collector's items and aside from this and the extremely rare "Ranger Of Brownstone" vhs release which you might also be interested in tracking down, Humphrey's films have not yet been issued on any other home video release in any format to date, so you might expect to pay a considerable ammount depending on the condition. I sold one mint copy last year for around $45 US, shipped.
If you're patient though, I am confident that these cartoons will eventually show up in a future Walt Disney Treasures wave compiling all of the one-shot characters and uncategorized shorts...
Hope that info helps.

I'm going to add just a little bit here; I see that someone pointed out that "hold that pose" is on the goofy treasure, and "grand canyonscope" (Ranger Woodlore and Donald, but not Humphrey) is on the 20K leagues disc.
Back in the really old days, they used to have vhs video tapes that they sold mostly to rental places; they weren't really designed to sell to home consumers and were priced high to sell to rental places.
There is one of those old videos of the "The Ranger Of Brownstone." (The Ranger of Brownsstone is a World of Disney episode that edited together several Humphrey Bear shorts with some new live action footage and footage from Grand Canyonscope to make a 45-minute or so episode). You can sometimes find this old tape on ebay, but it is usually pretty costly.
There is another old video like that called "Winnie the Pooh and friends" - it has three humphrey bear shorts- Hooked Bear, In The Bag, and Hold that Pose (these are the three without Donald, Hold that Pose has Goofy and is on the Goofy Treasures; it is only sort of Humphrey anyway). These are pretty rare, too.
There is also an old home video which you might could find used called Cartoon Classics : First Series : Volume 9 : Donald Duck's First 50 Years that has Rugged Bear on it.
Also, if you really have a Humphrey jones, and I haven't seen either one of these, but Humphrey guest starred on Goof Troop episode "You camp take it with you" and goof troop airs on toon disney. Every once in a while I check my tivo for it, but never caught it. There is also an episode of Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers called "Bearing up Baby" which is available on a home video called "Danger Rangers" that you can find for sale used on amazon for cheap through the links on this site - look here http://www.ultimatedisney.com/tvshows.html.
One other thing. There are three new Humphrey Bear shorts on house of mouse. If you have tivo, you can look for these episodes, or look at your local guide.
House of Mouse Episode "Humphrey in the House of Mouse" (Season 3, Ep. 23) contains Hot Tub Bear (new) , Beezy Bear (Classic), and "House of Mouse" interstitials featuring Humphrey.
House of Mouse Episode "The Mouse Who Came to Dinner" (Season 2, Ep. 4) contains "Donald's Grizzly Guest" (new)
House of Mouse Episode "Three Cabelleros" (Season 1, Ep. 3) contains "Donald's Fish Fry." (new).
When the Donald volume 2 treasures disc comes out, it should include all the classic humphrey bear shorts except In the Bag and Hooked Bear.
Maybe Humphrey and the Ranger will get their own disc someday.
I have a little list here if you want more info-

EBC, If you have the Disney channel and you are patient, there are a few episodes of House of Mouse that feature new and old Humphrey cartoons. I don't think they show the original "In the Bag" but I do remember a new version of Humphrey and Donald fighting over a fish. They also did a new version of the the song "In the Bag."
Try old video stores or online to find a VHS with Humphrey cartoons. Though with the new Cartoon Classics line, I'm sure they'll release Humphrey on DVD soon.
Luke or any other mod, could this topic be merged with this topic? They are really most the same: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... php?t=6528
