Joe, yes this has a new commentary. I also have the laserdisc boxset and the new commentary on the Special Edition DVD has Jim Pentecost, Eric Goldberg and Mark Gabriel participating. I haven't listened to the full thing yet but I agree the original one was pretty good. I guess they wanted a new one to hype up the new scenes.

DanV, How do you think the picture quality is on "Pocahontas" SE ? Is it as good as, "Beauty and the Beast" or "Aladdin" for example? I was sooooooo disappointed by the "gold collection" picture quality. If a person were to watch "Pocahontas" for the first time on that DVD, they'd never know it was made in the 1990's! Also, is the version of "If I Never Knew You" in the movie the same as the unfinished version we saw on ABC a few years ago? Thanks for the info!

Yes tdr141, it's just as good as 'BATB', 'Lion King' and 'Aladdin'. The Gold Collection DVD was a disappoinment with the grain and all but this is a crystal clear digital transfer.

And the 'If I Never Knew You' scene is pretty much the same, but I think a different Mel Gibson take was used for his vocals, and Pocahontas doesn't cry when John Smith sings 'dry your eyes'.

Yes it is. 'If I Never Knew You' is integrated and the 'If I Never Knew You' reprise in the end, and some extended credits about the 'DVD Edition'.

Wait...is there two versions on the DVD like TLK and BatB where there's the original and one with this new song? Because I would like to watch it first without it and see how different the movie is with the new song.

Yes there are two versions, just like BATB and The Lion King.

I just got done watching the Pocahontas SE, and it was great! I really, really like "If I Never Knew You" in the movie, and I think it makes the love story much more believable. The reprise was also a nice surprise. I haven't watched any of the special features yet, but am planning on tonight or tomorrow. The picture quality is AWESOME, and the colors are very bright and vibrant. I had forgotten that the movie is so sad though , although it's happy in a different way. Anyway, awesome DVD set.

Anyway, I actually want the Pocahontas DVD now. I haven't seen that movie in years but want to. I think I may just get it, despite my fears that all my DVDs are soon going to be nothing but Disney ones...
