Well I wasn't much impressed, but is Disney really distributing this? It's odd that if it's coming out so soon in Europe, that you'd think we'd have heard more from Disney about it in the US.

It still appears to be 18 months or so away.

This was originally mentioned as a Fall, 2004 release, but a recent article in "USA Today" about Disney listed it as now being scheduled for early 2005 instead. (11/8/04) The target now is sometime in 2006.
It looks to me that Disney only have the US distribution rights (like their James and the Giant Peach and Around the World in 80 Days films), but I could be wrong. None of the companies listed in the Production Company credits have distribution arms themselves, so Buena Vista may have worldwide distribution rights.Vanguard Animation is the new CGI animation studio of producer John H. Williams, whose previous big claim to fame on the CGI front was producing Shrek (CGI by PDI), for Disney's rival, Dreamworks. With Pixar's contract possibly (likely?) ending with Disney after the release of Cars in 2005, this new alignment with Williams and Valiant could easily be seen as a way of securing a replacement source of CGI animated films in case their Pixar pipeline goes to another studio. This is Vanguard's first film, but they have several others in development (which will be distributed by Disney as part of a four picture deal under which this will be the first release).

sorry I got it all mixed up, I thought it was the first non Disney movie by Pixar.Jack wrote:It's not Pixar. It was made by an animation company in England, seperate from Disney.Ciaobelli wrote:"from the producer of Shrek" in a Pixar trailer.... simply preposterous!
SO why the heck does the title say "first" non Pixar Disney CGI? Isn't chicken little the first?

Not if it does come out in March 2005 in the UK like the trailer suggests.Ciaobelli wrote:sorry I got it all mixed up, I thought it was the first non Disney movie by Pixar.Jack wrote: It's not Pixar. It was made by an animation company in England, seperate from Disney.

A fellow UK The Office hater, we a few and must band together.
Although I think he does OK in the trailer, apart from the trademark Brent "Yeah"
I hope John Cleese gets a big part. And Tim Curry.
It's strange Ben Kingsley isn't mentioned in the trailer in the roll-call of names. I thought he was playing the Nazi Falcon who will be Valiant's main nemesis. Surely the main villain has a big role?

Issues of "Is it first or not" aside, this actually looks quite fun.
While I do feel that Disney needs to develop a stronger in-house output (like the Australian film industry, you don't become big by hosting other people's films), it is good to see this type of animated film anyways.
And I'm a sucker for a WW2 film.

Well, I've since found out that the UK release will not be distributed by Disney. So what does that mean? Who knows. It doesn't alter the fact Disney will be distributing it in America, when ever they decide to release it. And my title does say "Distributed", not "Production".
Other "Disney" films not distributed by Disney in selected overseas territories include:
James and the Giant Peach (Fox/Pathe in the UK)
Around the World in 80 Days (Entertainment in the UK)
Flight of the Navigator (Carlton in the UK)
Mr Toads Wild Ride (Wind in the Willows in the UK, distributed by Fox/Pathe)
I bring this up, as there is a "Films people mistake for Disney movies" thread. Well, some Disney films are not Disney films everywhere!

What is Mr Toads Wild Ride? Were not talking about Disney's animated Wind in the Willows are we? The only Mr Toad's Wild Ride that I know of is the actual RIDE at Disneyland. (and which used to be at Disney World until it was replaced by Pooh.20099net wrote:Mr Toads Wild Ride (Wind in the Willows in the UK, distributed by Fox/Pathe)

I've been quite interested in this film over the past few months, but I have to say that trailer wasn't the best. Needed at least some glimpses of the war and more of what the plot is. Still looking forward to it though.

I understand there was a big spot on The Culture Show last night on BBC2. Sadly, I missed it.
