I second that, about time! This is an amazing film and it really deserves the special edition treatment and I think most people will agree.

Yes, I was about to say the very same thing.

TVShowsonDVD reports over two dozen TV titles alone for that date! DVD Talk lists over 50 titles available for preorder for that date SO FAR.

I already have (set for various shipping dates) Dawn of the Dead (Boxset); Star Trek Generations; Punisher; Clerks (3 Disc); SNL Best of Will Ferrell 2; SNL Best of Christopher Walken; Jersey Girl; and Magnum P.I.: The Complete First Season.

Mind you they are all shipping at various times....but who could be expected to buy all of those?

Seriously, I KNOW I don't HAVE to - but chances are people will want to buy more than one of these. Is this not counterproductive to sales (given that the majority of sales are made in the first week)?

Iron Giant SE might be worth looking into (I don't have a copy at the moment), but it will be a looooooong way off for me. Other titles I'm not buying that day (and would like too but have to save up for Xmas, and the October - Dec titles, which include Wave 4 of the Treasures!) are:
Resident Evil SE; Davy Crockett 50th; Ginger Snaps Back; Law & Order Season 14... blah!

Maybe I should just constrict my DVDs into a house and live in there...

Man, this is getting out of hand! Hopefully, this will be the final delay since it closely follows the theatrical release of The Incredibles. The one bright spot in this announcement is that Warner has confirmed the DVD will come in an Amaray case instead of a snapper case.

This wouldn't be nearly as frustrating if they had used this time to add some extra features or even a new transfer to the R1 package, but this thing has been in the can for a very long time now. According to DVDTimes, the Region 3 version was released on August 7, 2003. According to their review of that release (http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=3726), the transfer even looks similar to the one on the original release (though admittedly, the original had a very sharp transfer). The press release for this edition does state "newly remastered 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen presentation", so it's possible that they've updated the transfer, but I'm guessing "new" in this cases means new relative to the original release.

Thank you Quasimodo. Based on this information I think I will stick with the original version I already own. You're right, the transfer is already very nice. No reason to upgrade.

I don't own this film and have never seen it before so I'm planning on getting this release. I've heard lots of good things about the movie.

And I don't mind waiting an extra two months in order to get an amaray over a snapper. In fact I'm quite glad of the delay because of the change in case.

I was wondering if anyone whos got it has had trouble with the dvd messing up in certain parts. I returned mine for a new copy but it still messes up in the exact same parts of the film. also mine didnt come with any kind of paper insert.Did anyone else got one with theirs or did they just not put one in any of the DVDs?

And if you havent seen this film yet go get it, its by Brad Bird who just directed the Incredibles, and it is in my opinion the best non disney animated film ever made.

Take it back to where you got they movie and return it for another copy.

Recently my Aladdin, Princess Mononoke, and The Three Musketeers were all meesing up and I had to take them back.

I did already and the new one messes up too. I dont know, maybe a whole batch of them were screwy

Mine is being shipped. I do know that somebody else posted on another site that there is no insert for this dvd.

Yes, I hope all of you "I hate Snappers and Digipaks" complainers are happy. Now you get boring Aramays with no inserts. Such an improvement on the presentation

I know what snappers are...but what's a Digipak? Is that the cool kick-ass type of box that they use for multi-disc sets (like Friends season sets, the X-Men collection, and GWTW)?

Yes. Digipaks are the cases made of cardboard with plastic disc trays glued on.

Warner used to use them for their 2 disc sets, including the first two Harry Potter films, and the presentation was spectacular.

I'm not too fond of Digipaks with 4 or more "pages". They become unwieldly.

Then Digistaks work much better. The only examples of Digistaks I know of in America are the Spider-Man '67 collection and the SCTV and Freaks and Geeks sets.

Oh great, another type of DVD case I'm unfamiliar with (as I've never seen the ones you mentioned opened up, just sealed on a store shelf).

netty, could you give a basic rundown of every DVD case, just so you don't mention anymore that I have no clue about?

Here is a (not too good) example of DigiStak packaging - the UK Alien Quadrilogy.

It's a variation on Digipak - but now the trays are not glued to a long piece of cardboard, but are bound up, like a book. Thus while the packaging takes up the same width when closed, you can page through the trays just like paging through a book.

Ahh, okay, I see now. Hmm, I think I like the digipak better than the digistak. If only Star Wars were released in Digipak rather than the amarays.

A lot of TV season sets have been released with the digistacks. I like them a lot, but I didn't know what they were called, I called them book-cases. I know that Smallville and The OC both have these cases.

I'm debating getting The Iron Giant SE. I love the moive, but I already have the original DVD. I'll probably just rent the SE to watch the features.
