Newbie Authenticity Question + reliable sellers

Post by gamecocks15 »

I am just starting to put together a Disney DVD collection for my daughter. I am an Ebay veteran, and I realize that 90% of the out of print Disney DVDs for sale there are bogus. What I am wondering is does anyone know of a reliable seller that they've had successful dealings with.

What would be an average price to pay for say The Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast.

Please help a newbie out.

For example, does this look legit? I would think so but I am looking for experienced opinions.

Yes personally, I do think it looks legit. That is what the cover looks like, it has the limited edition banner at the top. The hologram seems to be authentic the name sticker at the top is in tact.

You could alos try Amazon marketplace.

I know 1 seller on Ebay that has a very good reputation, all of his Disney DVD's in his ebay store are legit in fact I just received the OOP DVD of Snow White & The 7 Dwarves from him 2 days ago and they're all factory sealed, he's also quite responsive to emails.

The seller you should look for on Ebay is named redford-films or the name of his ebay store is I think called Stitchs Disney Store where he sells Disney pins, clothes and OOP DVD's as well as other merchandises but you gotta be quick on the OOP DVD's cos he had like 5 Snow White Platinum DVD's and they're all sold out now but he still has 2 factory sealed copies of Beauty & The Beast. The prices for his OOP DVD's are around $25-50, now that may look like a hefty price but they are hard to find in stores plus reading from his feedbacks he has had VERY FAST shipping service for the people who live in the US, also some of his OOP Titles are available for bidding, currently there's one for Beauty & The Beast but YOU GOTTA HURRY cos there's only 12 hours left before the auction for it ends.

Hope that helps.

people have said before on this board that in order for it to be real, it must have:
1. the white hard case
2. the art cover has to have rounded corners
3. it has to have the security seal on the top and side
4 needs to be Region 1 (for america and canada)

if you actually buy a copy of a disney DVD from ebay, always check for 1 thing that will guarantee it is the real thing, it has to have the Buena Vista stamp logo on the back cover (on the plastic wrapping)

either ask for a picture that can prove it has the Stamp. do not bid if you get a bad feeling, and check the feedback.

i bought my Beauty and the Beast DVD a few months ago from ebay for $20.00 and $4.00 shipping, it was sealed and had the stamp on the back and all the original coupons in the inside.

I might have to buy some of those if anyone else has something positive to say about that site. I'm a little wary of ordering from a asian website.

I think the consensus is that they are bootlegs. The site deals in VCDs, for one thing.

There have been some "high quality" bootlegs popping up on E-Bay, and about the only way to tell is that the disc art is a smooth matte instead of a rough surface, like the original Limited Issue discs.

EDIT: These bootlegs have even had a "Buena Vista" stamp on the cellophane.

VCD was, and still is, a very popular format elsewhere in the world. Asia being no exception.

I don't think that alone means that the site deals in bootlegs. But I find it most unlikely that 101 Dalmatians and The Little Mermaid etc are still freely available. (That said, I did get an authentic Japanese Junge Book last year from HMV Japan, so perhaps some are still around).
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

The disney ones on the website are DVD's not VCD's.
I watched one and it seem to me to be the same quality as the disney ones.
They have the rounded edges, however they are not in a white case.
The DVD has a smooth matte finish.
Just in case any one is curious about the site.
