The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie

The Spongebob Squarepants Movie comes out this Friday. I am so excited. I get to see it with my family when I go home for Thanksgiving next week. I have been looking forward to this movie for over a year. I love Spongebob. I have seen all of the episodes so many times now, I am so ready for the movie mostly just for fresh material and because new episodes are finally being made after the movie.

I also bought the movie soundtrack this weekend and it is awesome! Other than stupid Avril Lavigne singing the theme song everything is great. It has songs by The Flaming Lips, The Shins, Wilco, and more.

It looks pretty good, though I expect it to suffer from the same problems I found in Nickelodeon's other flicks - not enough plot to sustain the longer running time. It's always difficult to take characters and settings from a brief TV show and make it work in the longer format, and Nick hasn't bucked that trend. I'm not saying that problem prevents their movies from being enjoyable, but they always seem to be lacking something, IMO.

Anyways, I like the show somewhat, though I'm not really a strong follower of it. If I see the flick, it won't be till DVD.

No, I'm not going to watch SpongeBob Squarepants: The Movie because I think it's too childish to watch prefer to watch National Treasure or The Incredibles again.
They think by putting a cameo appearance of David Hasselhoff and Alec Baldwin as a supporting role people will run to watch it but not me no way.
I seen the SpongeBob Squarepants show and it's funny but I really think its stupid sometimes and goes overboard.
Bottom line it's likely to be a rental when it comes out on DVD.

I think that this will be the number one movie for the weekend, due to the popularity of the character. Unfortunately, it won't be enough to bring 2D animation back.

I have to disagree Jack. I thought all but Rugrats Go Wild were excellent movies and stories (and let's face it, RGW was simply a gimmick). I think the first Rugrats movie and The Wild Thornberrys were especially good.

Um....First thing- The Incredibles could be deemed just as childish being another Disney/Pixar movie, and there are a lot of adults who will see this movie, either with their kids, and without. Secondly, Alec Baldwin isn't a cameo- he is a voice. Sorry that just bugged me. But, I agree- David Hasselhoff? That's okay, I think I'll shut my eyes on that part...

All I'm saying is that SpongeBob SquarePants is beyond childish and remember that Disney's/Pixar's Incredibles was better than SpongeBob SquarePants. Those who haven't seen this inglorious waste of time, save your money and wait for the DVD. "SpongeBob GayPants" was about 40 minutes too long. All the promises in the opening song are never fulfilled and why the heck was David Hasselhof in there? What a letdown. The movie's first two minutes are very hilarious with the Monty Pythonesque pirates who find the treasure chest full of goodies including passes to the movie and then they "Yo Ho Yo Ho" there way to their seats and the movie goes downhill from there.

All we are treated to in an inglorious 99 minutes of so-called animation is the gross insensitive humor of our gender-questioning yellow star and Patrick's bare butt. What more is there? You don't want to see this movie.

"SpongeBob GayPants" the movie is not worth even the matinee price. I am glad that my children won't let me let their kids, my grandkids, watch this show on TV.

Give me Disney or give me nothing.

I have never really been a fan of Spongebob. When it first came out a whilez ago, I tried watching some episodes. They're ok, but I wasn't really into it. I don't understand what makes him so appealing to kids. Is it because he's a talking sponge or something? Can someone explain this obsession of Spongebob? Because I really want to know.

Never watched the tv series but decided to watch it. I saw it inbetween National Treasure & Bridget Jones:Edge of Reason. It was the 3rd best movie I saw yesterday but I must say I did enjoy it. National Treasure, in spite of some bad reviews, was excellent as was BJ2. Sponge Bob did drag a little at the end (about the time Hasslehoff showed up). He'd have been better in a little smaller cameo. They overplayed the cheese factor in him.

I like Spongebob but not like "hey-I´m Bob biggest fan" but just it´s so simple than it´s funny.

Anyway, I think than you should see it first if you want to argue or complain for it, in other case you just are judging something without knowin it.

I'm definately going to see it. I think it'll be enjoyable but not on the level on which I liked the Incredibles.

I understand that Sponge is an acquired taste, so I'll just explain why I like it. Spongebob appeals to me because of his naivety. His innocence allows him to lead a very happy and fulfilling life. It's actually a good model for living. And it provides lots of good humor on the show. One prime example of this is evinced in "Plankton!", one of the first episodes produced. Tom Kenny really knows how to play the character. The show is light and childish in some ways, but it's fun to watch and that's what matters to me.

I found it to be a great disappointment! I immensly enjoyed the series but the movie ruined it! They could have done so much better with it! All kids will be happy with the movie, but the adults and teens who loved the show will be greatly dissapointed! The adult jokes were so subtly show in the series but in the movie they threw very inappropriate things into the open so that all kids would see them. The plot was abysmal and they could have done so much better with it. I really hope they make Spongebob 2 much better!

p.s. I really think the David Hasselhoff thing was too much. It was funny to see him once, but as a motorboat.....um.....no thanks

I adore Spongebob, but I don't know if I want to see the movie or not. :\ I'll probably love it though. Either that or I'll completely hate it.

I haven't seen many of Nick's movies. Just The Rugrats Movie, which I LOVED!

The Rugrats movie was special. It was one of the good Nick movies. It was true to the show and all the charcters from the show were in it. The SpongeBob movie was the complete opposite. Im glad I saw it, cause i wanted to see if it was good or not, but i just didnt care for it. They could have done so much better!

I remember watching The Rugrats Movie every day for two weeks after I got the video. I LOVED it! I STILL do. But I haven't watched it in forever. I'd like to get it on DVD.
