What's on your Winter Holiday DVD Buying List?

Post by yoda_four »

Hey all!

This is the second of the seasonal DVD buying list's I will be posting in the Off-Topic area. Currently, this is the updated plan: Spring - January 30th to April 31st, Summer - May 1st to July 1st, Fall - August 1st to October 30th, Winter - November 1st to February 1st.

Feel free to post anything from potential buys, to most awaited, to rentals, to even Wish Lists for the holidays. Remember, you can also use the List option in BBCode to make things easier.

As it is November, hopefully the building of DVD lists will help you keep on top of budgeting and some early holiday shopping. I know it is rather early, and many press releases for next year's DVDs have yet to be announced; so update whenever you wish! Get posting your DVD lists between the 1st of November to the 30th of January!

Tentative Purchase: Batman TAS Volume 2 (1/25), SNL Best of Jimmy Fallon (1/25)
Rental: Troy (1/4), The Village (1/11), Catwoman (1/18 ), One Tree Hill Season 1 (1/25)

Of course I'm listing new releases only, though I'm sure I'll get others, too. And then there are others being released these months that I may buy in the future, but probably not any time soon. I get a bit of a break, as January is (so far) a light month for purchases. February is where things start to heat up again.

...I'll update as more January releases are announced. I think we're pretty set for December's announcements.

Oh, and what do you guys think about leaving the new wave of Treasures to my Christmas list? I give my family a very big Christmas list of DVDs so that I can be very surprised about which ones were chosen on Christmas Day. Therefore, I never know if I'll get them or not. If I don't, they should still be in stores after Christmas, right? (I'd buy them the next day).

Thanks for posting, Paul! It's a lot of fun and a lot of help to have a good reference point for planning ahead, budgeting, and getting excited!

I probably won't be able to afford all of these, but this is my list:

Spider-Man 2 (November 30th)
Walt Disney Treasures: The Mickey Mouse Club (December 7th)
The Ultimate Matrix Collection (December 7th)
Mary Poppins: Anniversary Edition (December 14th)
I, Robot (December 14th)
Napoleon Dynamite (December 21st)
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (December 28th)

I want kind of want Collateral and Return of the King: EE, but those aren't priorities on my list.

Like others, this is more of a wishlist than a definite buy list. Since I plan on buying most of the titles on this list, anyway, I'll only mark the iffy ones with an asterisk.

November (Geez, packed month!)
Shrek 2
Gone with the Wind: Collector's Edition
Bridget Jones' Diary: Collector's Edition
The Stepford Wives*
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Friends: Season 8
The Golden Girls: Season 1
Spider-Man 2
Daredevil: Director's Cut

December
The Gilmore Girls: Season 2
The Ultimate Matrix Collection*
Mary Poppins: 40th Anniversary Edition
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - Extended Edition

January
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: Collector's Edition
Faerie Tale Theatre: The Complete Collection*
Troy*
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

Aaron - I still haven't heard much about The Passion: SE except that it's supposedly coming for Easter, which would mean a March release since Easter comes early next year. I think the Oscars will end up determining a release date, though. If The Passion miraculously (pun not intended) receives hardcore awards like Best Pic, Acting, Directing, etc., then I can see Fox post poning it till April or later to add big flashy Oscar banners all over the artwork.

For me just Xena Season 2 and 3 as gifts.

I'm way behind with just Season One and I'd really like to finish it.
