Is it just me...... (thoughts on Robin Hood)

or is Robin Hood a Disney Classic that just doesn't get the respect it deserves??? I think this one is a masterpiece.

I could not agree more! I love this film! I have had the video since I was little and i love it! The story is great the charcters fab! And the comedy! unlike some other films, this film could be released to cinemas now, and it would probably be as successful! OK I think that people would expect more animationwise however going by story it would still be relevant. Unlike films like Hercules, Shrek and Aladdin where a lot of the comedy relies on current themes and modern references (I'm not having a go at these movies), for example Aladdin doesn't quite work as well as it did 10 years ago, a lot of the jokes are outdated. I think this will be one of the biggest threats to Shrek, the fact that in 10, 20 or however many years some of the joke swon't work. The comedy in Robin Hood is just claasic funny comedy! (no are we there yet jokes! )

Also I think the songs are great too, Love is such a lovely song! equal to the ballds of the 90's like can you feel the love tonight IMO. The phoney king of England is also fantastic!

I don't just think it is Robin hood, but a lot of the films from the 70s and 80s are often looked down on! I think after Walt had gone the studio had struggled hard to keep the animation studio going! I would also say that The aristocats and the rescuers are also vastly overlooked! Although neither quite get to the same level of genius as RH!

Just reading this thread has gotten the song the rooster whistles stuck in my head...randomly whistling that in public is great cause people can't place it and it gets stuck in their head


I've always loved this one, but it definately isn't as high quality as some of the others. I don't understand the hatred of it though...it's just a fun kids movie.

Thoughts of this film range from its okay to its pretty darn good. I liked "Robin Hood" because of two things. The story and Roger Miller's songs. I think people got to expect too much from Disney when this film was first released to the theater. When it first came out on VHS it was a pretty well received film. When it first came to DVD, I bought it, and then thought, wait a minute I have this on VHS, why duplicate. Well, since the quality of DVD is so much better than VHS, it wasn't hard to change my mind and sell the VHS version.

Since we are talking about "Robin Hood" does anyone remember the live action "Robin Hood and his Merry Men" that came out in the 50s. It starred Richard Todd as Robin.

Would be interesting to know why this one isn't on DVD here in the states yet. I got a copy from Taiwan, and it is the one I watch most right now.

I love Robin Hood. I wouldn't say it's vastly underrated, but it is a bit. I think that this is Disney's best fully animated film from the "lesser" period (everything inbetween Sleeping Beauty and Little Mermaid), but I don't feel it's as good as Mary Poppins and Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

By the way, in case anybody mentions this, Robin Hood was not a box office failure. It didn't do too well criticly, but it did do well financially, becoming Disney's most successful animated film for a first release at that point...
