Disney Anniversary

Post by Sulley »

There are 364 unbirthdays every year, but today is not one of them. Alice In Wonderland is 52 years old today, and is still going strong. The film was actually a box-office flop in 1951, but today is considered a great classic, and I intend to agree. It is, if you think about it, very different from Walt's other pictures. It is simply about a girl bored with her world who falls asleep and dreams she's in another world and comes to realize later on that all she wants to do is get out of that place, which she does, as she is woken up by her history teacher [who, I believe, is also her sister? :? ]. Even Walt was dissapointed and felt he made a mistake, stating that it didn't have heart, but he still bounced right back with heart in Peter Pan. Don't let this turn you away, however. It is still a very entertaining animated feature, with lovely, playful color and music, and sometimes quite hilarious. I'm very glad that Disney is giving Alice a Special Edition DVD, even though I went through difficulty finding the original GC disc. Happy Birthday Alice, and best wishes for Winter/Spring DVD sales!

I don't know why Walt said Alice had no heart-when I was little, I always cried along with her when she's sad about being lost with no one to find her, because no one will even know where to look. So sad...

The most innovative, creative, imaginative and inspired Disney feature length ever made. Easily my favorite Disney animated classic.

I guess Walt was just upset and trying to figure out why it wasn't as popular as he'd hoped. It really is a terrific movie.

Nope, great movie but doesnt compare. Plus its not in the same feature-length vein as Alice. The many in depth characters, the conflicts and situations, the settings - it's by far the most elaborate and creative Disney feature film ever produced.

In fact, I find that contrary to the public consensus of this movie, it's by far one of the most intelligent and well though out Disney features ever made. It combines actual humor (not the cliche Disney watered down one-line kiddy jokes) with imaginative concepts, a continual storyline which managaes to successfully link together an ensemble of surprisingly memorable and well conceived characters, (most of which play background roles), and yet the plot remains simple and straight forward.

Throw in a fun and perfect-complementing soundtrack, some amazing animation and artwork and this is easily one of Disney's greatest, most underappreicated works to date.

It manages to combine so many varying artistic elements yet in the end, holds together an entertaining story which is fun to watch for the visuals alone.

Definitely Disney's most innovative and original feature length imo.
