Sorry I keep posting today, but I've also updated the Lilo & Stitch specs (above).

It has DTS on the film (YAY!), as well as HEAPS more stuff in the 'Documentary Footnotes' section (not listed on the back of the box - typical!).

I think overseas they are smart enough not to have a plethora of special names for DVDs. Though Pocahontas and Lilo and Stitch were originally advertised as Masterpiece with Alice, so I'm guessing here in America they will be Masterpiece. Don't they just call all of them Special Edition in Mexico?
I'm guessing the Masterpiece "line" is dead. Pocahontas is likely to be an Anniversary Edition on release, just as Mary Poppins was changed (or else, why hold it back for a year or so until the 10th Anniversary year?) and I guess Lilo and Stitch will be a simple "Special Edition" being as the first release wasn't (for the same reason Mulan was a "Special Edition" when Masterpiece would be equally fitting). I suppose it gives them the option of releasing an "updated" release in the future and calling it a Masterpiece.

I have the French sets on order (Dec 10th) so I guess the question is, will the supplements be bi-lingual? So far, most French sets are (the only exception I know of being Atlantis 2 Disc).

FYI: The Lilo and Stitch SE has been out in Mexico for a few months now-It has both Region 1 and 4 and I believe it has all the extras listed above. I haven't seen the Pocahontas SE yet-but I assume it's coming soon. Another DVD out in Mexico is So Dear to My Heart which is still pending US release...this is also Region 1/4.

The Lilo DVD seems very similar to Aladdin's in structure, which is a good thing since that DVD was excellent. I expect our Pocahontas menus to be similar to (but not identical) the R4 ones because Disney will most likely implement their pointless Easy Find system into ours. Anyone else find it odd that the "Colors of the Wind" music video is on disc 1 with the kiddie features and not in the music section of disc two? That'll probably be altered for the R1 DVD since lately Disney's been putting music videos and deleted scenes along with the feature and commentary on disc 1 (Lion King, Aladdin, Mulan). Thanks again for posting all of this, Loomis!

Hold on Loomis! No Garath Gates music video on Lilo and Stitch? Oh the humanity!

Looks like the UK edition (when it decides to show up) may be different to the Australian version! (Presumably the film is different too, with no Garath Gates singing at the end).

Those 2 2 Disc sets are released in France in December but I don't think I've heard of a new sequence integrated in Pocahontas... I was kinda suprised when I read this a few minutes ago.
Chandler (to Phoebe, over the phone) : Listen, Joey isn't gonna be here tonight so why don't you come over and I'll let you uh.. feel my bicep; or maybe more...

Jordan: I have interviewed a (former) Disney Animator some months ago that worked on that new scene of Pocahontas a few years ago. I asked him what it was about. You can read it here.

Most of the animation was pretty much completed before it was taken out of the movie right before its release, the region 2 dvd has it as a bonus feature. Some parts are even in full color. It's actually my favourite song from Pocahontas.

Does that mean that they actually completed the animation for this DVD?

Pocahontas was to have an IMAX release, and the film has been "restored" for IMAX, not DVD issue. The addition of the deleted song would have been to get bums on seats in IMAX theatres, not sell DVDs. But alas (?) the IMAX reissue never happened.

Looking forward to both of these. It has been so hard not to buy the bare-bones releases.

I'll double-check when I get home. It was only by going through menu titles that I discovered that there was was more than what was listed on the back of the box (way to sell a DVD, Disney)!

I haven't really had a chance to go through the DVD properly, and have already discovered sub-menus within sub-menus - so don't discount GG just yet.

It would be odd for the Aussie/UK editions to be different, as they tend to be identical in all but packaging.

This is one of the most exciting topics in weeks, hehe. Can't wait to read the complete reviews.

I'm really happy Disney has finally given "Pocahontas" the treatment it deserves. I was afraid they would pull an "Alice In Wonderland" on it and leave most of the LD extras out, but fortunately it didn't happen. I'm specially happy to see that the extensive art galleries have been ported over.
Well, we are getting most of the material from the LD but not all of it. Here is what we are missing (some significant material, actually):

*Text-based material on the real Pocahontas and on the production of the film
*Sequence and storyboard breakdowns on several sequences (Ship landing; Pocahontas and John Smith meet; Colors of the Wind; Savages (Part 2); Farewell)
*The "Pocahontas" Animation Discovery Adventure Tour - promotional featurette on a special Pocahontas tour from 1995.
*Early Concept: "Colors of the Wind" - original version of the sequence with storyboards by Eric Goldberg
*Alternate ending: "If I Never Knew You" - beautiful version of the ending in which Pocahontas and John Smith sing a few verses of "If I Never Knew You" before his departure. It shows up from time to time on The Whole New World of Alan Menken site.

Here are some LILO & STITCH DISC 1 MENU SHOTS. As you can see from the first two, some of the menus are animated, and change as you are watching the. More to come:
