More SE's (maybe...)

Post by Prince Phillip »

Well, I haven't heard of anymore Special Editions, set to come out, but it is very possible that with Pocahotas, Lilo and Stitch, and Alice in Wonderland, set to come out this January, that more might very well, possably be on the way...

With that said, if disney were to announce tomarrow, that 3 SE releases were to street every January, through 2007, to coincide with Platinum releases, what three would you pick for 2005, 2006... :?:

You only have to do it for 2005 if you want. Now it wouldn't quite match up entirely with platinum, this time around, as the platinums really don't match up, so really, there should be 21 special edtions (2 disc) sincce the platinum cycle is suppose to be 7 years, but since SE's won't start till 2004, there would only be 12, 8 of which would be your choice...

Got it? Maybe that sounds a little confusing, just chose 3 for 2005, and then 3 more for 2006, if you like, and an addition 3 for 2007...

*Note - As mentioned before, the 3 SE's a year, has not been brought up at all, to my knowledge, this is just something to do, if you like, though it is always posible, and something I personally hope they do continue...

For choices would be"

2005

-The Hunchback of Notre Dame
-The Sword in the Stone
-

2006

-Hecules
-The Black Cauldron
-The Fox and the Hound

2007

I left one blank for 2005, because I had Treasure Planet there, but really I think it should be released next year (2004) along with 2 disc sets of Mulan and Tarzan... (to coincide with their sequels  )

I also think Dumbo should get a 2 disc, but that would be for 2008, when SnowWhite is rereleased with Beauty and the Beast...

Well, I think it is very possible...

Otherwise why give, Alice in Wonderland and the rest 2 disc treatment, if they are not going to do it with the reast?

I think it is very possible, and if it hasn't occurred to them yet, maybe if a "spy" is reading this thread, it will give them the idea...

I think Salidos Amigos and 3 Cabellaros should be released in a 3 disc set, set the Anthology... I believe this is how they made their LD debut...

Sheesh! :o I went through so much stress trying to collect all the animated classics on DVD! Everyone's talking about what's coming in the future. The only thing I'm probably upgrading is the Gold Classic Collection DVDs. I'm quite satisfied with the other discs [Treasure Planet is JAM-PACKED!]. Besides, I'm more of a 90's Disney fan and fascinated by the oldies [For example, Alice and Pocahontas are must-haves]. Besides, nobody's really confirmed if these are 2-Disc SEs are not. (They could be single-disc SEs like Peter Pan and Oliver & Company. On the other hand, they could be double-discers like Sleeping Beauty.) We'll just wait and see.
What would this wretched world be like without Disney?

Well I didn't start this to have a debate, I merely wanted to see which 2 disc SE's people wanted to see come out next year...

I'm glad I didn't get too many of thew GC it makes it easier to buy them for the first time if/when they are reissued...

Doesnm't anyone want to see more SE's?

Oh and about TP, I thought the same thing about Lilo and Stitch, but here you have a SE coming out in January...

I think they are going to be 2-discers, because Disney surely has a vast collection of material avaliable for both of these films (they were released as Collector's Edition Laser Discs in the past). Probably we're also gonna see collector's edition of "Hunchback" and "Saludos Amigos/Three Caballeros" in the future!

Somehow the only reason that Disney releases 2-disc DVDs is to confuse people since one disc is the movie and the other disc is all the special features. When i got Monsters Inc. on DVD, i wanted to see the outtakes, and the two shorts but i couldnt find it on the first disc. later i find them on the second disc. i just hope that Disney lets the special editions be one-disc sets and the Platinum sets be 2-discs sets.

I'm not sure if January's SE's will be 2-disc like Sleeping Beauty because it was advertised for a year beforehand, and Disney only confirmed these 3 like a few months ago.
NOt that I hope they'll be single disc-i really hope they're 2-disc like they deserve. These three really are underrated classics. What I think Disney should do is not really "downplay" the release of Sleeping Beauty (which everyone knows will sell well), but turn their attention to making people aware of the 3 upcoming SE's, which I'm sure a lot of people aren't fully aware of, and may not consider buying.

Why????? You don't want another disc of material for a movie?

I would love a special edition of Robin Hood, and Hunchback Of Notre Dame would also be OK. Apart from those, it looks like there already are good editions out, and with upcoming Platinums there will be alot of DVDs to buy.

And a special edition of A Goofy Movie could be nice.

Yeah-Goofy Movie deserves a special edition. It should have been one of the full-length animated classics. I think Donald deserves a movie, and then Minnie (a la Tigger Movie and Piglet's Big Movie). But if this does happen, the other characters should play larger roles, not just brief cameos as in Goofy Movie.

Well, I still haven't gotten what I was asking for except from one person, maybe 2, which was what movies you wanted to see as SE next year....

But since this has turned into a debate over wether or not they will indeed be 2 disc editions, I might as well, offer my view...

They will be 2 discs! There is no reason for them not to be. A 2 disc SE was planned for Lilo and Stitch, just like it's predeccessors: T, A, and TENG... but instead all we got was a JAMMED pack 1 disc.... I don't see how they could make LAS any more special, since I don't see how any more content could be put on the disc! and since a 2 disc was originally planned...

Even before Sleeping Beauty was added to platinum it was going to be a 2 Disc SE, so why should we assume that January's 3 releases would not be? Isn't it possible Disney learned from their mistakes with the SE's of Peter Pan and Oliver, and now want to do them right with 2 disc treatment? Besides, like with LAS and TP regular Disney DVD's, are starting to come out fuller, therefor a SE would have 2 be 2 disc, to warant the brand "Special", sequels not included with this...

We are talking about Disney's Masterpieces... and besides as I hear it these movies, Alice in Wonderland atleast, got killer LD sets, which leads me to believe they would bring a lot of the content over to a 2 disc set. As for Sleeping Beauty being advertised a year in advance, I do not think this was planned as the dvd was suppose to come out in Spring and kept getting pushed back... Also it was a first time release on DVD, Pocahontas and such, might not get a big advertisement since they already made their DVD debuts... (not that I think this is goods marketing, but sofar disney has ignored other rereleases like ABL)

Any way I don't see why so many people are pesimistic, and the fact that any would say the did NOT WANT 2 disc SE's, only 2 disc platinu,s, is beyond me....

Well my gripe with the Lilo and Stitch DVD is that, yeah it's jam-packed for 1 disc. But almost all of that is all fluff material with the exception of the deleted scenes and the trailers. Where's the commentary? Where's the galleries and character design material that Disney used to stick on its special editions? Where's the section that was altered to be more September 11-sensitive? There's just so much material that could be on a two disc release that isn't fluff.

I mean, if you can fit all the material you want and ought to on a one-disc release, then stick with the one disc and don't expand out to 2, unless the supplementals would take up too much space and compromise the video and audio quality. But as it is, I see very little Disney single-disc DVDs that are jam-packed with meaningful and non-fluff extras. And judging from Beauty and the Beast and The Emperor's New Groove, it seems that even the 2-disc releases are being jammed with fluff extras.

I'm sorry for the brief interruption, but there is a little bit of excessive use of abbreviations. I admit that I use them, and they make things a lot easier. I'm just having a heck of a time figuring out what ABL stands for.

I agree about the upcoming releases being underrated. I actually look forward most to Pocahontas. I think it was definitely part of the last golden age, but just overlooked because it stood in the enormous shadow of The Lion King.

Is it the Association of Lebanese Banks, the defunct American Basketball League, or perhaps A Bug's Life.

2005:
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Hercules
Mulan

2006:
Robin Hood
The Rescuers
The Rescuers Down Under

2007:
The Sword in the Stone
The Aristocats
The Fox and the Hound

2008:
The Black Cauldron
The Great Mouse Detective
Oliver and Company

2009:
Dumbo
The Anthology Features (Saludos Amigos, Three Caballeros, Make Mine Music, Melody Time, Fun and Fancy Free, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad)
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

Yes, I know this list is unrealistic, but this is the order I'd want them in. Pooh is last because (despite it being my 2nd favorite Disney movie), I'm very content with the current edition out, and can patiently wait for a loaded 2-discer if one ever comes out.

I feel, though, that my 2005 list is gonna happen because Hunchback has been on and off and on again with the 2-disc rumor so it's bound to occur, and Hercules and Mulan are both receiving sequels so you know just know the SE's of those will be used to promote the sequels. Everything else is in limbo as of now...

Disconsidering the Platinums, next January SE and the films that already got special treatment, my list would be

2005
-Saludos Amigos/Three Caballeros (3-disc pack, or 2-disc set, with the two movies on the first disc and the extras on the second)
-The Hunchback Of Notre Dame
-Mulan

2006
-The Black Cauldron
-The Adventures Of Ichabod And Mr. Toad
-Melody Time

2007
-Treasure Planet
-Dumbo
-The Rescuers Down Under

I know special editions for films such as "Black Cauldron" and "Rescuers II" are almost impossible, but a guy can dream! :)[/b]
