Late July DVDs - Australia (R4) incl.FULL Herbie & RR Sp

Post by Loomis »

OK, so I received my Herbie Box and Roger Rabbit discs this morning.

And the news is pretty good.

Herbie the Love Bug: Four-Film Special Edition
Contrary to what some websites have advertised, these discs are in fact in widescreen (with one exception). The fullscreen advertised on some sites indicates that the 3 sequels are NOT 16:9 enhanced. The first film is.
Each film is one a different disc.
The Love Bug is presented in 1.75:1 (16:9 enhanced), with English Dolby 5.1 and English subtitles and contains:
- That Loveable Bug
- Deleted Scenes: 'Used car lot' & 'Playground'
- Herbie Mania
- Audio Commentary
The latter is strangely not listed on the back of the Love Bug disc, and thus may not appear on some online listings. I can assure everyone that it IS there. So it looks as though we have the meat and potatoes of the US version, if not all the gravy.

Herbie Rides Again is presented in 1.75:1, NOT 16:9 enhanced. It has English, Spanish and French 5.1 Tracks. It also has English, Spanish, French, Dutch, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Hebrew, Greek subtitles.

Herbie Goes Bananas is 1.33:1 and full frame. IMDB lists this one as 1.85:1, so I am not sure what the actual story is. I find it strange that Disney would present all of the discs in a widescreen ratio except this. Still, I can't complain too much. It has English 5.1 and English subtitles. All very strange.

Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo is in 1.66:1. It has English, Spanish and French 5.1 Tracks. It also has English, Spanish, French, Dutch, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Hebrew, Greek subtitles.

The language options seem very strange. Can't work out why some discs have so many options and others have only 1 or 2.

International customers can pick this up quite reasonably through various retailers. I recommend:

Hope this helps someone....

Who Framed Roger Rabbit: 2 Disc Collectors Edition also came out last week.

Disc One contains:
- The Feature! in 1.85:1 (16:9, dual layered)
- Toontown Confidential
- Audio commentary by filmmakers Robert Zemeckis, Frank Marshall, Jeffery Price, Peter Seaman, Steve Starkey and Ken Ralston
- English & Italian Dolby 5.1, English DTS 5.1 tracks
- English and Italian subtitles, English captions

Disc Two:
Presented in English 2.0
- Deleted Scene: Pig Head Sequence
- Valiant Files - Gallery
- Before and After
- Toon Stand Ins
- The Roger Rabbit Shorts - Tummy Trouble, Rollercoaster Rabbit, Trail Mix-up
- Featurettes: Behind The Ears, On Set!
- Game - Trouble in Toontown
- Who Made Roger Rabbit?
--------------------------------------

NB:
Last week also saw the release of the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids box, the Fantasia Legacy (similar to the US, but I think lacking in some areas), Stanley Hop To It; Stanley Spring Fever and The Mighty Ducks box.

I didn't buy any of these, as I have the Fantasia box from the US, and the others I wasn't really interested in.

Cheers! :D

Thanks for the info, mate. Herbie Goes Bananas should definitely be widescreen, it was in theaters in the '80s. I'd imagine we'll be seeing similar things for the Herbie sequels in R1 sometime soon.
