What Disney Laserdiscs do you own?
I know there are a few laserdisc collectors here, do you plan on hanging on to your LDs, or get rid of them once you get DVDs with no missing features, edited scenes, etc.?
I was happy to find Beauty and the Beast: A Work in Progress in a cut-out bin for $15, fairly soon after it had been released.
I have the Fantasia box set, I think I managed to find it for ~$40 or so.
I own Honey, I Blew Up the Kid, although for some reason, I never picked up the first movie. I will hang on to this since the DVD isn't widescreen.
I will probably keep The Santa Clause until it rots away, since Disney chose to remove a controversial scene (see the Santa Clause thread for more details.)
I also own the Snow White box set, and while the Platinum DVD had most of the extras, plus some new ones, it was still missing a couple of extras, such as a much larger gallery of advertising images, and, I think, an audio-only track or two.
I really enjoyed my Toy Story box set, I don't recall anything missing from the UTB DVD release, except for the physical items, of course (the hardback book, etc.)
Finally, I had Who Framed Roger Rabbit, in CLV instead of CAV format, but I had a player that was able to create digital still-frames and do other CAV only functions on a CLV disc.

(if i not specify the edition is cus i cant remember
) (Some disc are partial CAV or viceversa)
Snow White CLV
Pinocchio CAV Red Box (had also a stereo CD)
Fantasia CAV Blue Box
Dumbo CLV remaster 1(Technicolor super colors)
Dumbo ¿CAV or CLV? can't remember. white frame cover remaster 2. Not as good colors)
Bambi CAV
Saludos Amigos + 3 Caballeros CAV Archive Box set
i think I have Adeventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad
Cinderella Japanese import (years before it was released here)
Alice In wonderland CLV (not the white framed cover remaster)
The Sword And The Stone CAV
The Jungle Book CAV
The Aristocats
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
The Little Mermaid CAV 4:3 (1 and a half copies
) (the other half was sent to a family whose disc half had been damaged and the lil girl was crying from Mermaid withdrawal and put an ad in the papers looking for help) (you see, the good Disney stuff is always out of print!)

)
Beauty And The Beast: Work In Progress CAV
Beauty And The Beast CAV . (original dark muted dramatic colors)
Aladdin CAV (see my current(for a limited time!) avatar
) only one edit in the soundtrack
mmm me and Evil Genie Jafar need to talk one day
Mary Poppins CAV Achive thing
Tron CAV Archive thing
The Prince And The Pauper CAV? 4:3 Also had other shorts like Peter and the wolf, whales, sheepish lions and musicallands
Honey I Shrunk the Kids 4:3. Has The Roger Rabbit short which i think had better colors than on the dvd. (there's some unespecified fuzziness on the dvd on that short i think)
Who Framed Roger Rabbit CAV widescreen original edition (no tampering
)
Who Framed Roger Rabbitt CAV Widrescreen reedition or remaster 2? can't remember. I think it was still untampered. (The good 'ol days when we were "less" free
 )
oh and Dick Tracy CAV 4:3 Great Technicolory comic book colors look. (open matted supposedly as Storaro wanted. But hey Storaro has strange aspect ratio ideas like pan scaning Apocalipse Now from 2.40 Panavision to 2.00 Storaro"vision" (i still have part of the Valkyrie attack on 2.40 on a special laserdisc
) The Dick Tracy didnt bring the R Rabbit shot tho. (but that's whats dvds are for ;P )
(one technical note about CLV special sfx: they indeed give you 90% of CAV functions (tho nothing can surpass the surreal psicodelic 48 fps and 60 fps 2x and 3x CAV fast play
)
But same as with VHS and old digital TV's frezzframes/slow mo, the CLV sfx frames halve the vertical resolution since they discard one video field (of the two 60Hz interlaced ones) to present a stable (non-epileptic-interlacing-jittery) progressive frame.)
I might have more Disney or Touchstone stuff but i might not remember it
AAAAAAAAAAh ooffff course.
The Toy Box Deluxe Box set thinguie.
I still can remember puting it into the 27" (calibrated by me) (but of course) TV and saying: Wow! this looks better than the print i saw in the theaters!
Digital rendering and CRT's infinite contrast pure blacks can do wonders baby.
AAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNND Nightmare before Christmas Deluxe CAV box set also with bookie thing and stuff and uncensored (or later deleted in other editions? shorts/stuff)
The only other thing i got from that era is a complete Make Mine Music taped in S-VHS from the disney channel. (paints his face blue and shouts: freeeeeeeeeeeeeeedom)
(it's sodium pentathol weekend)

I have everything on your list, except for the HK Lady and the Tramp and the Japanese Hunchback. I didn't know the CLV had any extras. Was there anything different than the extras from the box set? I was going to post my list, but someone just suggested that I post "all". If you click on my webpage below, you can see my Japanese list. I don't have all of the live action PILA Japanese LDs, but I have most of the others.Lars Vermundsberget wrote:Seems no one dared reply after I did. Sorry...

mvealf is the Lasermaster.
Just Myself sorry to hear that. I got myself an 8" music video LD (and as far as I know not yet released on DVD) that's broken in two. I wonder if LDs could be repaired/glued/resurfaced, at least long enough to be able to make a copy..
maybe one day i'll experiment. (I once read that the pieces would unglue and go flying off at 1200 RPM...)
I got the PAL 16:9 widescreen Tron, it looks great, so at least you can get that movie on DVD

I must have mis-read your list. Yes, the Hercules Japanese LD has a making-of that wasn't made available in the U.S. until a year later on the DVD .Lars Vermundsberget wrote:mvealf is the one I was waiting for in this thread...![]()
I haven't got a JP HoND, but Hercules. The JP CLV edition has a rather short making-of piece and a "music video".
Posting my collection would be too overwhelming, so I will just list a few of what I consider to be my prize possessions. No, not the HK Song of the South, that is one of the worst looking laserdiscs. These are collections that are so rare, I have never known anyone else to have all of them. If I'm wrong, somebody please let me know. The first is the Japanese collection of 7 Cartoon Festivals. The first 3 were made by Pioneer, but the last 4 were pressed by Bandai, who almost immediately lost the rights to make them after they were pressed, so there were extremely few of them made for a very short time. Photos here:
http://www.geocities.com/disney_laserdiscs/dcf.html
The second group is the 12 volume "Disney Gold Disc" Bandai collection. There are some great Wonderful World of Disney episodes, theatrical documentaries and other collections that have never been released on any other format. Photos here:
http://www.geocities.com/disney_laserdiscs/dgd.html
Also among my favorites are the True-Life Adventures LDs:
http://www.geocities.com/disney_laserdiscs/true.html
and the the Limited Gold Editions:
http://www.geocities.com/disney_laserdiscs/gold.html
Then there's the rare Ducktales Pilot movie "Treasure of the Golden Suns"
http://www.geocities.com/disney_laserdiscs/19041.html
As far as US laserdiscs, my favorite is the Disneyland Anthology.
I guess that's all I'll mention for now

I forgot to mention the Disneyland Anthology. I've got it as well, but that's a Japanese edition.
I think I've got most of the Japanese shorts collections from about 1990 and later, but I'm missing the older (~mid-80s) ones. I think there's every reason to agree with mvealf when he says they're extremely rare. But I'll be able to do without them, as it seems we'll get practically all of the classic shorts on DVD (Treasures) eventually. I just hope we'll also get the True Life Adventures.

Yes, I would love to see a nice DVD collection of restored True Life Adventures, features and shorts. And while they're at it, they could also include the People and Places series that was kind of a spin-off. There are still many things on laserdisc that I don't know if we will ever see them released again, but who knows. I'm thinking of the non-traditional longer shorts that have been censored, like "The Story of Anyburg USA", The Saga of Windwagon Smith, Mother Goose Goes Hollywood, The Truth About Mother Goose, and also Make Mine Music and Song of the South. Although my gut feeling is that Song of the South will eventually get a DVD release.Lars Vermundsberget wrote:I think there's every reason to agree with mvealf when he says they're extremely rare. I would loooooove to get the People and Places.
It's interesting to see the many things that were released in Laserdisc (supposedly a very smal market format which i'm sure had much higher manufacturing costs than mass manudfactured DVD media today. How much does it cost to "fabricate" a dvd? a dime?) while at the same time, when DVD is bought by millions, these things are not out on DVD, even when they probably would sell more than when they were released on LD.
mvealf probaly has a master list with the things not released in bold, and he looks at it and goes

Tokyo Disneyland laserdisc
I still have a copy of the Tokyo Disneyland laserdisc. It is a theme park LD that runs about 30 to 40 minutes and highlights various attractions/rides at Tokyo Disneyland. It is completely in Japanese.

Yes, but that list is getting smaller, it used to be huge. It's mainly the old Japanese laserdiscs that have the interesting rare stuff, and those were released in even smaller numbers because they weren't intended for the worldwide market.deathie mouse wrote:I would loooooove to get the People and Places.

Re: Tokyo Disneyland laserdisc
There are 2 Tokyo Disneyland laserdiscs. The first one has a nice map of the park on the back:ValenciaJoe wrote:I still have a copy of the Tokyo Disneyland laserdisc. <p><img border="0" src="http://www.geocities.com/disney_laserdi ... w-1021.jpg" width="520" height="257"></p>And the second one is a double feature: 15th anniversary special / History of Tokyo Disneyland:

Then there are 3 different DVDs:<p><img border="0" src="http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/pictures/l/06/36/VWDS-4760.jpg" width="315" height="450"></p>

Good Morning all,
Started collecting Disney Animated classics when my wife suggested I needed a hobby to get me through an extended illness.
Very impressed with mvealf and Lars Vermundsberget collections. I have three additional discs that are not on thier lists of animated classics... Oliver & Company, Melody Time Japanese CLV & Tarzan Japanese CLV (which I believe is the last animated classic released on laser).
The only disc I'm still looking to add to my collection is Make Mine Music.
Guess Ill have to start a new collection!
Have a great day!

Oh my.
I didn't list Oliver & Co! I've got it (CAV edition), but probably, on a subconscious level, found it so forgettable that I forgot to list it...
However, I'm still hoping to find the LDs of Make Mine Music and Melody Time at a somewhat reasonable price some day. Having the Tarzan disc would also be neat. I agree that Tarzan probably was the last one on LD.

Japanese DVDs - all region coded?
Does anyone know if the Japanese DVDs (especially those of the theme parks) are all region encoded (allowing all players to play those DVDs)?
Thanks in advance!

There was 1 release after Tarzan, The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea, actually released before any U.S. version. I have LM2 along with Tarzan, Mulan, A Bug's Life, Pocahontas 2, Lion King 2, An Extremely Goofy Movie, Fox and the Hound, Oliver & Co, Make Mine Music and Melody Time Japanese releases. Someone recently sold the Japanese LD of Melody Time on eBay for about $78.Lars Vermundsberget wrote:Oh my.
