disney's platinum series doesn't only sell in america, it is a global plan. as a european, I can say that what you consider a minor movie in the us can be a major succes elsewhere. the jungle book, 101 dalmatians, the fox and the hound and the black cauldron are extremely popular in france.
as for me, cinderella has always been my favorite film and I'm doomed because it is the very last disney animated film to get a dvd release. it does deserve the platinum treatment and i hope it will be as good as the snow white and aladdin dvds.
question: sleeping beauty. will there be a platinum edition as announced before or was last year's special edition all we'll get ?
Films that don't deserve to be in the Platinum line...
I think people take the Platinum line much more seriously than Disney. They just picked the best selling movies and gave them the PE treatment hoping that they would once again be bestsellers. Thats all there is to it IMO. It would be cool though if they too the top movies and platinum-ized them. Like Dumbo for example, it underperformed so it will never be a PE, but I think it would deserve the treatment more than the JungleBook.
