New, but a big Disney Fan. Help!

Post by Saito »

Hi,

Just joined I'm a really big Disney Fan! When I was little my mom owned a video store so I had like every Disney VHS that ever came out :).

Anyways I have a few questions.

Ok I am now going back into Disney and have restarted my collection.

Are platnium editions the rarest and will every animated classic be turned into a platnium edition?

Well ok plain question whats the difference between Platnium Edition and all the rest of the editions :?: Thanks you're being a big help.

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like it will do you a lot of good to explore the site...you'll find answers to the questions you have and many you don't have but would have.

The Platinum Editions are not the rarest by number printed or titles in the collection (that would be "The Masterpiece Edition").

Platinum Editions are not the rarest but they are the best ones that you should buy only the top selling Disney VHS back in the late 80's and 90's have been selected.

Welcome to the forum Saito.

The Lion King and Aladdin are must get for Platinum this year and next year Bambi and Cinderella will be re-release but first time on DVD.

Hi Saito :D !

Welcome to the board! As for your question, Platinum Edition titles are indeed not the rarest but the very best in DisneyDVDs. They are mainly of the top selling Disney VHSs of the past years and here are the ones that have already been on sale....

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (2001)
Beauty and the Beast (2002)
The Lion King (2003)
Aladdin (2004)

and next year..

Bambi (March 2005)
Cinderella (October 2005)

There are other titles scheduled including The Little Mermaid, The Jungle Book, and 101 Dalmations!

I hope I have been of service to you!

hi, im new, just joined. seeing as you were talking about platinum dvds and which ones to buy, i was wondering if someone could help, or advise me please. I live in England and bought BATB on dvd a year ago, but it wasn't the 2 disc edition. It is my fave disney animation, and i was wondering if anyone thought it was worth updating to the 2 disc edition.

Thanks. :)

UPGRADING TO 2 DISCS

Post by disneyguy »

Hi,
If you are interested in extras and bonus featureS among other things I would upgrade to the 2 discs. Problem here is the US is finding them at a descent price as they are OOP.
Hope this helps..

Australian discs are actually R4, not R2. However, I think all Australian Disney DVDs are encoded for R4 and R2, even though R2 is not mentioned on the packaging. You should be OK!

Enchantress, Australia is actually PAL region 4.

If your PAL dvd player is region free it will work, if it's not, i'm not sure but i think many Australian releases are double duty coded Region 2/4, i'm sure someone here will confirm it.

EDIt: ohh so 2099net got the info in while i was typing. darn! foiled again! :P ;)

As for the double disc PAL "Dark Red Velvetium Editium" (my term :D) i think it's great specially if you love the movie. I haven't seen the single disc PAL one so i don't know exactly how are they different. But this is one case i would buy it for the ancient book case look alone ;)

Just in case, Platinums tend to have other names in different countries ;P

Saito, maybe when you said the "rarest" you were refering to as "hard to find". Indeed discontinued Platinums tend to become scarce and harder to find tho they sometimes pop up out of nowhere for limited times :P

Other "rare" discs are the Treasure series. Check the Out of Print page on this web site for titles that are going bye bye or have already (hint: Certain Lion is going bye bye soon), if those are the "rarities" you were seeking ;)

Oh and a double welcome then to the both of ye!

It's 2 and 4. But it looks like Australia doesn't get the digipack packaging Deathie likes so much.
