Does anyone have the European Hunchback DVD?

Post by 2099net »

Being as it is on offer at Play.com at the moment, I'm tempted to pick this up, as the R2 release has substantial differences in supplements over the R1 version.

Can anybody give a brief review of the disc? I'm especially interested in finding out how extensive the Scrapbook of early designs is (which I believe is on the disc - but can find no reference to it online at the moment).
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

I've unfortunately got it (I wish I'd bought the R1 version, hopefully there will be a special edition sooner or later).

To my review:
I'll just review the special features sinces their the only difference.

1.History of the production of THOND is just about 2 mins with Don, Kirk and Gary where they say who had the idea for THOND and what they wanted to do, not much info.
2.Early presentation reel is good. It has lots of concept art set to Alan Menken singing both versions of "Out There". This is a good piece.
3.History and background of Notre Dame De Paris is just some text on screen about how the book was written.
4.Computer Generated imagery demo is how they used CGI to make the crowd screens in the movie. It lasts about 4 mins.
5.Animation progress reel, cant remember what this is, I'll tell you later on today.

Deleted scene: Someday. This is the best feature, it starts with Don, Kirk and Gary telling you about Esmeralda's pray scene and why they changed the song from "God help the outcast's" to "Someday" back to "God help the outcast's" again. Then we see a storyboard reel of how the scene would look if Someday had been choosen as the song for that scene and we hear (the woman that does Esmeralda's singing voice) singing Someday.

Multi language reel is just the opening song, sung in different languages.

All in all, I'd wait for a 2-disc version none of the features last longer than 5 minutes and I think eventually we will see a 2-disc release and all these features we be on that anyway. Hope this helps.

Thanks Matty. It doesn't have any picture galleries then?

I have the Brazilian version, it is identical to the European one. Though the extras seem to be more substantial than the R1 release on paper, they aren't that nice (I'm sure the R1 version is better). Here's a listing of the bonus features (and there's no art gallery).

Bonus Features:
· Production
-The History Of Production Of "The Hunchback Of Notre Dame" (01:48 )
-Story Reel (04:08 )
-The History Of Notre Dame De Paris (9 screens of text)
-CGI Demo Reel(01:49 )
-Animation(03:28 )
· Deleted Sequence: “Someday” (03:24)
· Singing Around The World: Bells Of Notre Dame (06:26)
· Set-Top Game

I agree with Matty-Mouse. If you already have the American edition, I think there's no reason for buying this one. I think it's worth waiting for the future 2-disc set!
