Underrated Disney films that belong in the Platinum/SE lines

Post by Just Myself »

There are 44 Disney films in the Masterpiece film line (not the DVD/VHS line). Only about 25 of those films or less will get good DVD treatment. So in response to the "Films that don't belong in the Platinum line" thread, I made this so you could voice which underrated Disney films should be Platinum edition or 2-Disc Special Edition.

My list:

Dumbo
Sword in the Stone
Aristocats
Rescuers
Great Mouse Detective
Oliver and Company
Rescuers Down Under
Treasure Planet
Home on the Range
Cheers,

Dumbo should've been a Platinum while Hunchback and Hercules both deserve SE treatment (and I do believe we'll see this one day, especially for Hunchback). Even though it's already gotten solid treatment, I'd like to see The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh become a 2-disc, too.

Even though we're getting a special edition release soon, Pocahontas should be in the platinum line.

I don't think Black Cauldron deserves an SE or PE. It was mediocre at best.

Wasn't Dumbo released before Disney started the Platinum line? Seems likely to me that Disney will release another edition in the future -- Dumbo's on a lot of film fans' top 10 list. I got the feeling Disney purposely held back on bonus materials, and there was a lack of effort to improve the picture quality as well.

But I agree that Dumbo deserves the Platinum treatment, and ditto for Hunchback.

I'd like to see 2-disc SE's of:

Robin Hood
Rescuers Down Under
Sword In The Stone
Peter Pan

Definitely Hunchback (Platinum) and Great Mouse Detective (SE). Greatly underrated films I must say.

The ones that deserve all Special Editions are The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, The Rescuers and The Rescuers Down Under.

I'd like these to get Platinum Edition (or regular 2-disc) releases:
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Pinocchio
Dumbo
Hercules
I also think some of the 80's movies should get a 2-disc treatment (The Great Mouse Detective, Oliver & Company, Black Cauldren), but they aren't as high-up on my list. Also, I didn't start collecting DVDs until recently, so I'd like the OOP DVD's to get re-released as well.

I have The Art of The Hunchback of Notre Damme Book, and all those goodies in that book could make a very meaty special edition dvd, and actually this film deserves a much better transfer.

Hercules is the same case...
