AWESOME... I remember my cousin, when he used to live with me, loved that film. I hated it, but eventually came to love it. I haven't seen it in a long wile.. so picking it up this November, or getting it this christmas would really rock!

Wow that looks like quite a set.
Must resist the temptation to add yet another title to my Fall Wishlist.

I bought the P&S DVD without seeing the film beforehand, as it was only $9.99 at Wal-Mart. I'm not sure I liked the movie enough to upgrade. It does look identical to the SE West Side Story received, so if you're a fan of the film, you'll probably love it.
What would this wretched world be like without Disney?

Boy, if ONLY Disney could do something like this!

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a great movie, it reminds me A LOT of Mary Poppins and Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and the pure love of fantasy.

I think I'll add it to my amazon wishlist.... :)

I am bumping this ages old post because FINALLY, today, I not only recieved a copy of the 2-Disc Special Edition of CCBB, but the CD soundtrack released in conjunction with the release.

I've been wanting it for a while because it came on TV, so I decided to save time and not watch a possibly butchered version, I popped in my old video. Although I found myself having fun despite how corny and cliche it is, I was DISGUSTED with the washed out colors, dirt, and pan and scan transfer of my old videotape. So the DVD finally came, and I'm SO pleased with the gorgeous WIDESCREEN transfer. My only beef is that the documentaries could have been so much meatier.

The soundtrack is also a satisfactory package, although Varese really could have included all of those demos that the DVD boasts. I burned a CD of the songs from the CD as well as my DVD audio rips of the demos, and it was just under 70 minutes long. Record companies really need to learn how to take advantage of the 80 minute capacity of a CD. However, the soundtrack CD sounds good, and is fairly free of flaws. Oh! And lyrics in the liner notes would have been nice.

The only gripe I don't have is the packaging. I know flipper discs aren't the big favorite here, but if it allows a choice of widescreen and fullscreen without creating separate editions and sometimes forcing people to go to several stores to find the one they want, I'm all for it. The beautiful slipcover that opens up to a map of the locations in the movie and lists of the DVD features is just the start. The digipack is also beautiful, as is the storybook with all the great photos. It looks like they went that extra mile to make a pleasing set.

I'm sorry for your disappointment.

But oh... the glory days of MGM DVD. I'm getting nostalgic (and it was not even 3 whole years ago!)

What's different about the new edition?

There's nothing different. Your edition is the same one that this thread's about.

Don't be sorry for my disappointment. :P The good far outweighs the bad both for the DVD and CD soundtrack. A beautiful WIDESCREEN transfer of the movie with very few flaws, plus fairly good audio on the CD soundtrack makes up for any flaws. :D

I remember that movie when it was on ABC a few years ago where they aired the edited version of "Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang". It was a 4 hour movie but it was edited down to 2 hours on TV. :? I used to taped it off of TV a couple of years ago but it was the heavily edited version of the movie that it was aired on ABC. If I want to get the uncut version on DVD, I will get it soon.

My favourite song from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was the title track. I loved that song so much and I would sing it at the top of my voice; at the tender age of Five. The thing of it is, I was still developing my phonetics skills; so my dad had to cover my big five-year-old mouth before the words Sh1tty Sh1tty Bang Bang bellowed out for all to hear! To this day, my sister kids around with me about that.
