The Phantom of the Opera would be great.

Its romantic, centered around music, and with the right animation, be visually stunning. :)

Aida would be great too!!

oh man, im greived to say it as i am already doing a short animated film on it, but the Nagini Princess.
Its a burnese fairy tale about the mythical nagini- a half woman half snake and her doomed relationship with the sun prince. it has a love story, a misunderstanding, a pesky crow who lets everybody down, a lucky theif and a heart breaking ending:)

it would be a refreshing direction for disney to take, a good story, strong visuals and well fleshed out characters:P

Rumpelstlitskin is prime Disney material, period. I'm surprised they haven't done it yet. I'd really enjoy it if they did it in the style of the early '90's flicks.

I have an idea for Disney animated film myself, but its quite unlike anything they've done before. It would basically be about a night with a group of young friends before they all move away, and the various experiences and character interaction that happen that night - kind of like American Graffiti, I guess, only more from a child's perspective. It would be a great oppertunity to have a colorful cast of characters and I think with the right people behind it, it would turn out as a nice Disney film.

whoa shooting intersting story! does the nagini become a ...uh full woman?
if so, This might be like the little mermaid a bit.

I've been thinking about the type of disney film i want. The ones that leave a strong impression are the really serious ones. Snowwhite, Cinderella, Pinocchio, LM, BATB, Alladin, Mulan, LK so forth compared to robin hood, Oliver and Company, Hercules, Emperor etc. These serious films are what I am looking for inthe next Disney film.

The last few were kinda slapstick comedies. So I've been left wanting.

Lately my mind has been going to war films. For example, how about a story about a carrier pidgeon in world war one or two? It can involve issues about duty, courage, bravery, sacrifice both in the field and by the family. We can have adventure: dogding bullets, bombs, nerve gas etc. The mission: to carry a message that could save a small town or hudreds of soldiers. Serious stuff. We can even have a villianous bird of prey analogous to the red baron. Ruthless blood colored hawks that kill and are bent on stoping the mission. Might seem silly but make the story a bit dark and serious, add a little humor, make the characters likeable, and I think Disney could pull it off.
Maybe i should write a spec script.

what do y'all think?

What about a story with vikings and the northern mythology,
with Thor and Odin etc.
Or Egyptian mythology.
That would be cool!

I'd like to see them do some more films in the style of The Little Mermaid and Aladdin; musical fairy tales. The Frog Prince, The Princess and the Pea, Puss in Boots, The Ugly Duckling, Tom Thumb or Rose White and Rose Red could have the potential to revive Disney's 2D animation.

I've always wanted them to do an animated version of The Wizard of Oz, but I think they've got to change the title, as people are going to expect a remake of the 1939 musical if the title is kept the same. I think that they should do an animalised version of A Christmas Carol, like what Disney did to Robin Hood.

Wonderlicious got there before me, I was going to suggest the Princess & the Pea and Puss in Boots although Puss in Boots might be too late after Shrek 2?!?

I also think the Phantom of the Opera idea is a pretty cool idea. How about that kids book with the short story about Chickin Lickin' who got hit on the head by an acorn and ran around telling everyone that the sky was falling down? Chicken Lickin, Henny Penny, Foxy Loxy....etc? Anyone know what I mean? I remember reading the story as a kid and just loved it!

I rather Disney movies with lots of music like the early movies, Snow White and the likes so anything like that I personally think would be a hit.

This is a good topic for discussion!!!

These are the stories, that I think Disney should make them into movies!

This is the list:

1. Anastasia (The Russia Mystery.) :)
2.Thumbelina (Anderson's tale) :P
3.Swan Lake (Sleeping Beauty is Tchaikovsky's Ballet, so I think they should have this) :D
4.The Nutcracker (Sleeping Beauty is Tchaikovsky's Ballet, so I think they should have this.) :D
5.Les Miserable (The Hunchback of Notre Dame is written by Hugo, so I think they should have this.)
6.The Secret Garden (Disney Animation is full of secret, magic and dreams. So it might be a good one.) :P
7.The Little Princess (One more disney princess???) :D
8.Sound of music / The trapp family story (It's touching!!! :) :P

Disney is going to release an extremely similar film in 2005 - Chicken Little.

2099, no freakin way! Awesome! The already made the movie and Disney gonna distribute?????

How the heck did I guess? I must have heard it somewhere and used it subconsiously.

Un-freakin'-believeable!

Thanks 2099.

I love the stories y'all are coming up with. I too would like to have a style live aladdin or TLM. Some of the suggestion though already have been done by other animation studios. I remember there being anastasia, tom thumb, and several other suggestions that have either movies or feature length cartoons. good ones too.

This reminds me of Gulliver's Travels.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0031397/
I remember there being an awesome feature length animation of it long ago (1939 i think). Unfortunately, or fortunately, I think it is so good that Disney really can't improve on it. They can try to modernize or make a comedy out of it.

................I still can't get over it!
I predicted the story to a movie!??? What is this, the Twilight Zone?

I think they could do something similar to Robin Hood with Zorro or maybe they could do some stories using Disney icons (Mickey, Donald, Goofy, etc) or other animal characters centered around major events in history like the American Revolution, Christopher Columbus, Russian history, Cleopatra, and others. There is so much they could do with history.

well i will share the story with you, cos u guys are so awesome:)
but its basis is in a myth but i have adapted it for a play, but am using the original for a animated shoprt film

so the nagini is a half woman half snake and she hangs out in this jungle . her people originally live in this giant lake, but she prefers to chill on the land. one day the sun prince, who lights the sky in his fiery chariot, is zooming around the sky when he spots this beautiful creature, he comes down into the jungle and meets the woman, she is captivated by this god, and they end up spending many days togther chilling in the jungle and getting to know one another.
the nagini lays three beautiful golden eggs with the prince and they are ecstatic. however the people of the kingdom arent as theyre crops are wilting and they are constanly cold, as the sun king cant light the day without the aide of his son. the prince must return to the sky. he promises to visit his nagini princess every day, and gifts her a pure white crow (as they all were originally) if she needs him she can send the crow as a messneger and he wil return right away.
days pass and the nagini princess is happy tending her unborn children and readying her jungle home for the return of her husband, but after a few weeks when he does not return, the princess gets loneleyy and disspirited. she sends the crow to her husband to beg him to return so he can see her children hatched and so they can be together.
in the sky the prince has forgotten how great it is to be adored by all the kingdom, in his vanity he has not looked in on his princess for many a week. the crow reaches him and tells of his childrens immient birth.
brought back to his senses, the prince takes a giant ruby from his treasure palace as an apology to his loyal wife. he wraps it in a beautiful silk scarf.
"do not stop on the way home! take this straight to my nagini!" he orders the crow. "make sure you tell her these words, "this is a symbol of my love!" the crow promises to do the princes bidding and takes flight for the jungle. however, being a slightly pampered and over indulgent crow, he feels a bit hard done by having to carry and oversized jewel. the crow sees an oppurtunity to have a free meal when a merchant is feeding his leftovers to a group of birds by the side of the trail. the crow breaks his promise and lays the ruby in soem shrubs before taking its share of left overs.
the merchant however has spotted the package and quickly takes the ruby.
the crow returns to see the jewel missing and fearing what the princess will say, substitiutes it for a peice of ox dung lying nearby.
flying quickly to the princess, who is overjoyued for news of her husband, the crow drops the parcel in her lap.
"the prince says this is a symbl of my love for you!" and with a quick flourish, the crow flys away fearing what will happen next. the princess' joy quickly turns to sorrow when she unwraps the dung. her sorrow turns to anger and she realises her husband wasnt in love with her but fooled by her beauty. she rampages, letting her snake fury out. she destroys the silk she has hung, rips the bed she had made fro her husbands homecoming, then her atention turns to her unborn children.
however, as bitter and burnt as she is, her love for the children is too strong. and she merely covers them up and abandons them.
weeks pass and autumn comes to the kingdom, the prince is no longer rquired to help his father light the long days. he returns to the jungle to find his princess gone, and his silk scarf dirtied with dung. he takes to the sky looking for his princess. he spots the merchant selling a large ruby and realises what must have happened. in a rage the prince hunts down every white crow and scorches them black, as punsihment. but when his anger is spent, his sorrow over comes him. his neglect of his wife has cost him both her love and his children. heartborken he vows not to return to the jungle again.
the eggs do hatch, however being without their mothers care and love they have become symbols of their parents miscomings. from the first egg comes a proud and viscous tiger, from the second comes a feirce and angry crocodile and from the last come cursed rubys which foreve carry the bad luck and greed. the children grow numerous and u can still find them all in that land today.

phew, typed that quick- sorry about the spelling:)

I'd like to see disney put their minds to use and do something original like the lion king in 2D animation. 2D was the soul of Disney and It is sad to see it die.

What I wouldnt like to see is anyting that have a 2,3,4,5 ect in it. (Apart from maybe my screenplay for AGM3!)
