Dogs

Post by Disney Guru »

I need your help. Since my precious Black Lab Tabitha was stolen. My parents told me I could get a new dog. But I was wondering what breed should it be. I have been thinking of either a Cocker Spaniel, or a Springer Spaniel. Have any suggestions ?

I'm not a big fan of spaniels - they can get a bit high-strung and snippy at times. :P

In general, I like mostly sporting and working breeds. Retrievers are good - you can't go wrong with a golden! I mean, if you're looking for something easygoing and gentle, a golden retriever's a good choice. :)

I like sporting breeds also. but The Reason Why I am not getting a nother lab or golden retriever. Is because they remind me to much of my little Tabitha.

Sorry about your dog:( That is just not cool.

Anyways, I'm a huge fan of the American Cocker Spaniel. You have to be really careful with temperment because the inbread ones tend to be a bit mean. The nice ones are obvious when you meet them completely lovey and possibly a bit timid at first. There should be absolutely no growling or snipping, even as puppies. It's always good to interact with the parents and see if they are really nice too. The one downside of the really lovable cockers is they tend to pee if they are really happy or scared.

Both of the cockers I've had have had that demeaner and they wouldn't bite anything or anyone. They also get super lovable as they get to know you:) You may want to take somebody who has had a nice cocker with you because they will imediatly recognize a snarky cocker. It's quite shocking to those of us who haven't had to live with one when we encounter them.

I suggest you go to your local dog shelter and pick one of those dogs out. They need homes too. Some of the best dogs I had came from the pound. After all, the breed of a dog doesn't really matter. I find good ol' mutts make the best pets. You might find a real winner there as well.

I am going to look at the pound CJ. But it is kinda this way for me. I never want another dog like tabitha. I saw her picture today and cried my eyes out, I shredded the picture. I can't bear to look at even the movie Old Yeller anymore. I want any dog that isn't a Lab or a Golden Retriever. I can't bear to see another one. they remind me to much of Tabitha. Thats why I want a Cocker. my parents have told me to get over it but I just can't. She was my best friend, and I loved her dearly. The chances of me finding her are very low, because she got stolen when she didn't have her license on. And they probablly strip all dogs of identification. I am just so crushed over her. No dog will ever take her place. But I just want a Spaniel they are so cute and loveable. So I will try to find one. I know that when I was little we had a Cocker and she was my best friend when I was a infant.

I completely understand your pain Disney Guru. I did not mean to upset you. I suggested the pound only because most people usually overlook the pound as an option for finding a pet.

I use to have a yellow lab, which I found at the pound. And after many years of bonding with Dusty, I was forced to put him to sleep because he got cancer of all things. At the time, I didn't even know dogs could get cancer. Like you I could'nt bear to look at a lab or watch old yeller or look at pictures of him. But in time I decided to get another dog to fill the void. I also did not want another lab, so when I went back to the pound, I looked at all the other dogs instead. And I found the perfect little mutt for me. I have know idea what kind of dog she is, but I know she was the one who needed me as much as I need her.

You are right about no dog will be able to replace the one you lost. What ever kind of dog you choose whether it be Spaniel or anything else, I am sure you will grow to love it just as much, but not more than Tabitha. I know I love my little mutt as much as Dusty, but not more. Maybe the right dog for you is in the pound or maybe it is not, but you will know when you have found him or her.
