Was I ripped off?

Post by BABYDOLL »

Hello all. This is my first time to this forum, as i am desperalty seeking some information on a DVD i purchased from ebay. I bought the DVD from an ebay user, who in the article description said "Brand new DVD". Also stated in the description, which i understood, was that the DVD was in it's original case "the black ones like the ones you buy at a store" and that the DVD was not "shrink wrapped", as it had been opened to ensure there was no scratches/markings on the DVD" Oh my, i guess i should have told you that it was "The Little Mermaid" DVD which i have purchased. So, to tell you a bit more, i received the DVD in the mail today and I do not believe this is an "original" or "brand new". Newly BURNED maybe. The DVD case has obvious markings that the cover art had been inserted. It also says "Platinum edition" on the front with a photo i am not familiar with. (Not the same photo as the VHS i have) To my knowledge and recent findings, the platinum edition hasn't even been released yet. Also, the art on the DVD itself looks very dull. So to make this long winded stroy short, i was wondering if anyone could direct to me a photo of the various cover art and DVD art that were used for this movie. Is there more than one photo? I would like to get my facts straight before leaving this user negative feedback. Thank you so much in advance for any and all replies.

I hate to tell you, but yeah, you got ripped off. Buying OOP DVDs on Ebay is pretty darn dangerous.

Did you use PayPal? If so, you'll probably be able to get refunded.

PS: To answer your question about The Little Mermaid's cover art, it was only released as a Limited Edition back in 1999, and the cover art looks like this: http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000 ... ZZZZZZ.jpg

Thank you Jack for such a quick response. The link you posted to the picture of the DVD cover is NOT what mine looks like at all. Dang!! This was my first ever ebay purchase too. I can't even watch the DVD atm to see if it is in fact the little mermaid. It was a birthday gift for my daughter and she is home. grrr, boy is hubby gonna be happy when he finds out about this one. I did in fact use paypal. Actualy i went back to ebay to leave feedback a moment ago, and the person i bought from is no longer a registered user. Does this mean i am out of luck? Stuck with a burned DVD and out $40?

No, PayPal should still be able to give you your money back, I believe. I've never had to do it, so I'm not familiar with the process of getting a refund, but if you go to the PayPal site and read their policies etc., you should be able to find instructions on how to do so.

I'm going to go look and see if I can find it myself now. I'll post a link if I get to it before you.

Okay, I found how you can do it. Log in to your PayPal account, and click on "Resolution Center" near the top of the page. Then click "File a claim." You can take it from there.

actually i don't think he'll be able to get a refund. I recently bought the Next Generation series for about $450, the only thing the seller ever sent me was an envelope that said "confirmation of address", and when i tried to report it and get my money back through paypal, that's how I payed, the powers that be said that since I had recieved something even if it was an empty envelope, they did not feel the need to do anything about it. (That was a whole month and a half's worth of paychecks for me, down the drain.) Paypal sucks #*$@...

I once had a similar problem, and I approached the problem both through paypal and my credit card company. The amount was refunded after just a little work, so it works. It stinks that there are people out there trying to make money this way.

Hmm, that stinks. Never heard of such a negetive experience with PayPal.

Some credit cards cover purshases too (I think Amex does). If PayPal doesn't work, maybe Babydoll can get covered that way.

I got scammed to , I bought a Snowball Express once on E-Bay. And I got it and it was a homemade copy, and the cover was a shrunken versino of the White Clamshell VHS Edition. I was so mad. Then I threw it away, and bought the authentic DVD off Amazon.com.

Wow that sucks!

I've had to get money back through paypal before for non shipped merchandise. It was only like 20 bucks but I got it back.

I've heard of people getting ripped off on EBAY I don't see why PayPal can't refund your money and EBAY go after that guy, there's gotta be somewhere you can file a complaint if paypal won't refund your money

Conducting fraudlent business through the mail is a Federal crime. I say report to the FBI, they'll nab this fellow. You may not get your money back, but atleast you can say you spent it on revenge.

Yeah, getting Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Beauty and the Beast cheaply on ebay has proved very tricky. I actually ordered Beauty and the Beast about two months ago, and when it came, I realized it was the Canadian release. That wasn't specified in the description. Oh, well, it words well.

I used my Mom's paypal account since mine wasn't activated at the time, and then she took the money out of my account. Her paypal account wasn't through a credit card, like I think most people's is. It's through her back, which means the money was taken directly out of her account, which is why I think she's having trouble getting it back. I think if she had used a credit card it would be easy to reeport the guy and get the money back or whatever.

The guy's nolonger a registered user on ebay, and I don't think he/she was at the time I bought the dvd's. So I don't think ebay would or would be able to do anything about it. As for the mailing situation another person told me that the packge was mailed from one are, had a return adress in a completely different part of the country in the middle of a park, and the company, S Town Videos, or something to that effect, was supposedly station in yet another area of the US. My Mom says she's trying to get the money refunded into her account now but it has been over 2 months since I bought the dvd's, so I don't know if anything can be done, it really sucks. :(

And the worst part is, by time I do wind up bying the entire series, I'm going to have spent well over $1000!
