will disney ever release these "forgotten" films??
i just won an ebay auction for the anchor bay distributed Devil and Max Devlin. this got me thinking about all the 80s movies that have yet to get to dvd. Herbie goes bananas, Trenchcoat (which is suprisingly delightful), Night Crossing, Flight of the Navigator, and Benji the Hunted (which according to Benjimovies.com says will be released soon through their distribution company). But how about an original aspect ratio release of Fox and the Hound, Journey of Natty Gann, Cheetah, Return to Snowy River, and Honey I shrunk the Kids. does disney plan on releasing quality dvds of these at all? also, rumor has it that MGM bought the rights to distribute all the achor bay dvds...is this true, and will we be seeing special editions of The Last Flight of Noah's Ark? Don't get me wrong i think the quality of Anchor Bay is suprisingly superior, but we could do with a bit more special features than an original theatrical poster replica.......
I enjoy these '80s movies myself, and it's a shame the poor treatment they have received. On the one hand, it's good Anchor Bay released them, as at least some of them are in widescreen (none would be if it was up to Disney)...but a number of them look like crap. Midnight Madness (which isn't widescreen, unfortunately), for instance. Quite unsightly.
And some special features would be nice too. Return to Oz is really the only one that got anything, and it's still pretty lightweight from what I hear.
Still, it's pretty pathetic when a small studio like Anchor Bay can give better DVD treatment to films than a huge corporation like Disney.
