Hey everyone,
I'm new to the forum. I bought the Aladdin Platinum DVD today and I decided I'd compare the audio from my VHS version from back in the day. Remember the big scandal when Aladdin is on Jasmine's balcony and Raja comes up. Aladdin in the original says "Good kitty" and then under his breath (according to many people, and myself) says "take off their clothes". However, in the DVD edition the "take off their clothes" line is edited out of the film. Interesting...

Of course it never actually said SEX in The Lion King. And it's not Disney being paranoid. It's Disney telling other people to stop being paranoid.

Welcome to the forum! Not really the most breaking of news, since I noticed it and wrote about it in my review early last week, and so did DVD Times in their review last month.
Don't have anything to add beyond what I said in the review. It does make them look guilty of something that obviously wasn't what the rumor stated.

Thing is, even if it never said that they probably wanted to record a line that was easier to understand just so certain people wouldn't be bugging them about it and parents would feel safer (I know that there was never anything "unsafe" about it) letting their kids watch it, even if those same parents erroneously think, "I'm glad Disney finally corrected that risque line." It's just giving the squeaky wheel the grease even if the wheel's squeaking never had any basis in fact. I could make the point even more clearly but anyone with half a brain will be able to discern what I'm saying.

i never really heard the line till we learned about it in our high school psychology class. we were learning about hidden messages messing with our brains and stuff like that, and Disney came up, with all their so called hidden sex messages...i was a little surprised when we heard it in class...my favorite Disney movie had a snide remark

I'll just say that I won't ever believe those kind of things in Disney movies. We know how Disney works. I mean, why would Disney bother doing those things? Unless they wanted the company to fall apart.
And seriously, even if by any chance that was true, would you really feel like taking off your clothes because of that? And what does the word sex implies? Sex is a normal and common word that its used in every vocabulary to express the meaning it has. It's like if I say beer, does that make you go and drink one? So even if they had done that in those movies, that doesn't do anything. It is not a message. Now if I say : "take off your clothes AND HAVE sex" that's different. And even that wouldn't make you do it. You'd need something that actually stimulates you to do it. Like a sexy woman or man, or both... But by itself it doesn't do much.

Back to the topic, the weird thing about the changed line is that they mention it and explain it on the commentary. But if they were going to change it, why even mention it on the commentary?
But that's the point- if there's nothing to hide, why bother changing it? I'm kinda assuming that they didn't plan on changing the line while they were recording the commentary, then Disney made a last-minute change.Because nobody's hiding anything.

Why be so defensive, Christian? I mean, it is a bit silly (and hypocritical) of Disney to deny that those "messages" are there, but then go back and change/omit them anyway. I was annoyed at the TLK change 'cause now you can barely see any pollen and fluff fly up when Simba stirs it up... it's been colored so darkly. 
Taking out the garbled line from Aladdin is just giving in to the squawking minority, and it's behavior like that from Disney that keeps Song of the South from seeing a DVD release (or so your pessimistic DVD rep tells us 
).
At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if the priest's knees in The Little Mermaid were reanimated or digitally erased for TLM's Platinum Edition in a couple years - 'cause you know how terrible of an influence that that "subliminal message" has on today's delicate youth...

Sex in the lion king, when i saw that i thought, wow! you can see SFX in there, it was only when i finally got the internet in 98 that i realised everyone was hyped up about it.
when it comes down to it, any publicity is good publicity. If putting it in gets people upset and talking, then thats okay
if you take it out and people start talking again, then thats even better

i believe its in the part when aladdin is on his carpet try to woo jasmine at her balcony for the first time. turn up the the volume and close your eyes so that any possible distractions wont make you miss it. i could only hear "take off your clothes", not "good teenagers take off your clothes." the only reason i know this is because in my mass communications class, someone did a presentation on this topic.MickeyMousePal wrote:On the Aladdin VHS I never heard that part of "Good teenagers take of your clothes" I guess I have to pay attention more to the dialogue.
