20,000 Leagues under the sea the ride
Has anyone here ever been on this ride before it was closed.
I love this ride,i remember being on it once in 1993,for some reason this ride is the greates to me even though it was so cheesy.
i also like the submarine voyage that used to be at disneyland although i've never been on it but i've seen videos.I also tried to buy a fake plastic fish from the ride on ebay once,it was an orange one but the price went up to high,I also joined the extinct attractions club so i could get the sbumarine voyage documentary dvd,it's pretty good.

Ummm Jack. The Submarine Ride is already a done deal for coming back. While I agree that it does not fit the theme Tomorrowland is currently a desolate ghost town due to lack of rides. A glaring sore spot after the 1998? redo and total failure of the Rocket Rods.
It is currently being redone with a Finding Nemo overlay. Eisner visited it last week. They had all sorts of tarps there to cover what they have done to help the suspense.

Speaking of which:Jack wrote:Good to hear it'll be back . . . although in an altered version. I'm sure the Nemo ride will be fun, but I'll miss the mermaids.
I've never been to any Disney theme park, but I've seen some really bad film footage from that ride. I couldn't quite determine how they did the mermaids. Were they real girls dressed as mermaids, or were they some sort of animatronic figures?

More recently the mermaids were (not so great) audio-animatronics or figures of some sort. I do know, however, that when the park first opened, the mermaids were actually real people in costume who would swim up to the surface every now and again for air.Anders M Olsson wrote:Speaking of which:Jack wrote:Good to hear it'll be back . . . although in an altered version. According to Mouse Tales (or More Mouse Tales, I'll have to look it up), the mermaids were statues, that were "floating" in the water by wires that they hung from. A castmember once wanted to play a joke on a fellow castmember by cutting the wires and attaching the mermaid to the submarine, but it was so heavy that it fell straight to the ground. So he had to strip down to his skivvies and dive in there to swim her back up. Unfortunately, he didn't swim fast enough, and passed a submarine, where people swear they saw a naked man hugging a mermaid.
MT also talked about the real-life mermaids, who lasted a year I think. They'd swim around, do tricks, wave at you, but the sun took its toll on their skin and the chlorine in the water wasn't much help either, so they were canned.

Have to agree with JunglePrince. If you love Disneyland, you need to read this book. Informative and hilarious.Jungleprince_55 wrote:Mouse Tales is one of my favorite books,I've read that a bunch of times.

Sorry to bump up this ancient topic, but Jim Hill has details on the rides renovations. They've finally started actually doing something to the remains of the old Submarine Voyage (It was called 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in Magic Kingdom, though it's now gone and filled with pavement and park benches and Toontown fencing) and they'll be adding Finding Nemo characters.

Jim Hill reveals a lot about what's going to happen with the attraction (the ups and downs) and I wasn't that excited but his last paragraph has me wondering and freaked out.
Though overall, I'm somewhat upset that they chose to revise the attraction with Nemo. Now I love the movie and the characters and their potential Disney attraction characteristics, but I was hoping that Submarine Voyage would be revamped with their original plan of making an Atlantis ride. Afterall, Atlantis is more Disney than Nemo and can be much more exciting.
