What movie(s) would you like to see get upgraded 2 platinum?
For me, I'd like to see Alice in Wonderland get put on the platinum rota. Then I'd think it would be nice to see Robin Hood or Mulan to get put on the platinum rota.
This time of year always brings new Platinum threads. Better than no discussion or 15 different "Who's going to buy? Yes? No? Maybe?" threads, I suppose.
Anyway, I think with 14 titles (and maybe 15), the so-called "Platinum" line needs no new entries to remain the slightest bit "exclusive."
But assuming that the added titles will be revisited while we all still have the energy to type in complaints about their cover arts...I'd like to see 2-Disc Special Editions (whatever they're called) for Ichabod and Mr. Toad, Oliver & Company, Hercules especially. Bring on the rest of the Special Editions, too. Heck, might as well just make everything a 2-Disc Disney DVD!

I don't understand you people!Wonderlicious wrote:For me, I'd like to see Alice in Wonderland get put on the platinum rota. Then I'd think it would be nice to see Robin Hood or Mulan to get put on the platinum rota.
Alice in Wonderland was just re-released on DVD with a fantastic 2-disc set! What does it matter if it has a banner across the top that says "Platinum Edition". The title is only there to sell DVDs. There has been no consistency of Platinum titles having better bonus features than other 2-disc editions. Was the recent Lion King release any better than the recent Sleeping Beauty or Alice in Wonderland releases just because it was on the "platinum rota"?
Additionally, I don't understand why people are so concerned with Sleeping Beauty, Fantasia, etc being added to the Platinum line. If these movies actually are released under that banner, it wouldn't be until 2008 or so. That's over three years away. A lot can happen in 3 years.

That's a matter of opinion, that may not be shared by everyone.Just Myself wrote:Lumiere- they won't get two disc sets because the Lion King sequels are MUCH better than Aladdin.-
I think Aladdin's sequels definately deserve the 2 disc treatment, regardless of whether or not everyone here loves them.
The Return of Jafar was the first ever DTV sequel, and I'm sure they have a ton of (relevant) bonus material that they could have included with this...
King of Theives, was a good sequel, and even if it's argued that RoJ doesn't need 2-disc treatment because it wasn't as well liked as the Lion King sequels, this does not apply to King of Theives as it was a good movie, and liked by many...

AIW dvd was definetly not fantastic. Aladdin is going to be fantastic, but AIW...NO!! Poor documentaries, they had the original actress and used her almost for nothing!! Plus, virtual wonderland party?? Come onBill W wrote:I don't understand you people!Wonderlicious wrote:For me, I'd like to see Alice in Wonderland get put on the platinum rota. Alice had a solid 2-Disc treatment, but my beef with it is the fact that: a) there was no real retrospective look at the making of the film and b) the majority of the audio and stills from the laserdisc failed to show up. Had Disney included everything from the laserdisc and threw in a commentary track and featurette, the DVD would've been excellent instead of just great.
Personally, I think Dumbo should be a Platinum Edition. This is rather ironic considering Dumbo's one of my least favorite Disney movies, but I won't deny the historical value of it and how highly regarded it is among film historians (it was part of Disney's first Golden Age, for crying out loud). I also think Pinocchio, Fantasia, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, and Sleeping Beauty should all be Platinums (and it's debatable as to whether or not the first three and last one have been officially entered into the Platinum Collection or just considered for it). To me, Disney's had three Golden Ages: the 40's, the 50's, and the first half of the 90's. I think all of the films from those decades (minus Rescuers Down Under) realistically deserve Platinum treatment. I say realistically because in my perfect world, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and The Hunchback of Notre Dame would be there, too, but those two aren't likely at all (though the latter's likely to get some sort of 2-disc treatment).
I think it would just be easier if Disney had done this: Release every animated classic in a multi-disc set. Platinum Editions get 3-disc sets (goodness knows Beauty and the Beast would've benefitted from this) and everything else 2-disc. That way every Disney movie's fans will be pleased and the Platinums will still be set apart by their scope and depth. 3 discs may sound like overkill, but I think it's very possible; it'd just have to take up some extra digging and effort on Disney's part.
Okay, yeah, I've rambled on too much already.

Really I dont care how the movie is realsed anymore as long as it has great stuff on it. I would love to see hercules out on a 2 disc-DVD becasue I know that there is so much great stuff that can go on as bonus features. Just thinking about it makes me excited
. Oh yeah and The Sowrd in the Stone it reminds me a lot of Alice in Wonderland and think it too would be a great 2-disc realse.
Okay I am done.

For the most part, I'm happy with what's on the Platinum line and what's on the 2-Disc slate for the future. In terms of Special Edition "2-Disc" sets, I only consider those in the "open-like-a-book" cardboard slipcover era. Unfortunately, I was not into DVD's when the animated classics from the early "00's" were getting their Collector's' Editions. In terms of 2-Discs that I would like, here it goes:
Robin Hood
The Fox and the Hound
Oliver and Company
The Hunchback of Notra Dame
Hercules
I am also beginning to b elieve that the Masterpiece line is dead. Pocahontas and Lilo & Stitch are being released in 2005 for individual reasons, but both would benefit from the Special Edition title. Who knows? I'll get them.

It would be better just to have Disney include the CD soundtrack for the Platinum Editions as the 3rd disc; another DVD included would just be overkill.Disneykid wrote:

Films I'd like to see get upgraded to Platinum status:
- Mulan (though it has a slated 2-disc release later on this month)
- The Hunchback of Notre Dame
- Fantasia 2000 (not the original Fantasia)
- The Black Cauldron
Well, every Disney Animated Classic deserves a 2-Disc Set because we all know how much effort and creative minds are behind every project, no matter if it was as succesful as expected or not.
Remember that Sleeping Beauty was not a hit on the box office.
I also like the Black Cauldron very much and it doesn't deserve to be left with tthe miserable transfer of the "Gold Classic Collection" Edition.
As fot rhe Platinum Line, the TOP 10 was a good idea... well TOP 14 will do...
I'd love to see REAL DVD COLLECTIBLES as the Gift Sets (or even better) of Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty.

I don't know about platinum, but I would definitely like to see a 2-Disc set of Treasure Planet. By far my favorite modern Disney animation, I would love to see more supplementory features and even a commentary. It'll never happen though, TP was one of Disney's biggest box office failures to date.

Beauty and the Beast Platinum Edition has been out for almost two years now:Angela wrote:I would have to say Beauty and the Beast(if it were released) and Dumbo
