Sofia the First: Royal Magic
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that a sequel series of "Sofia the First" is now in production for a scheduled 2026 release on both Disney Jr. and Disney+.
The series, which will be titled "Sofia the First: Royal Magic," will see the returns of series creator Craig Gerber and Sofia herself, Ariel Winter.
Also, instead of the one 22-minute story per episode of the original series, each episode of "Royal Magic" will contain two 11-minute stories.

Updates from the showrunner.

There are still some fun surprises for OG viewers.

Source: https://x.com/CraigGerber_/status/1824118153942843597Q: I thought the Sofia spin-off was going to focus on Royal Prep!! And didn’t Sofia choose to attend EverRealm Academy?
Craig Gerber: Plans often change. In our world and Enchancia!
Source: https://x.com/CraigGerber_/status/1824181991081906333Q: What happened to Royal Prep? Is that still being made or has the Sofia the First continuation with her in a magic school replaced it?
Craig Gerber: We started off thinking we would do a spinoff and decided to do a sequel instead. So yes, this is replacing the other idea.
Source: https://x.com/CraigGerber_/status/1824190209329963072Q: Why does the series doesn’t come out until 2026?
Craig Gerber: Because it takes about 18 months to make a single episode...and the studio waits until many episodes are finished before launching the show.

Craig Gerber: He is in the series, just not in the teaser.
Source: https://bsky.app/profile/craiggerber.co ... 7wqnh6hc2vQ: Will we also get to see Amber and James Schools?
Craig Gerber: We won't be seeing their school any time soon. I would love to go there at some point. It would be a very big set build. In CG, every set costs money and a huge set costs extra.
Source: https://bsky.app/profile/craiggerber.co ... f6ihtz3c24Q: Will we see the castle with the royal family in like 1 or 2 episodes or will it just be all at Charmswell.
Craig Gerber: We will see the castle in more than a few episodes. Most of the shows are at the school. I'm pretty sure the Charmswell school is the largest, most elaborate that's been built for one of my shows.

Craig Gerber: It's pink - the same color it was at the end of the original series.
Source: https://bsky.app/profile/craiggerber.co ... hxzrhib22nWill the sequel have any 2-part specials? Will there be episodes set in the castle?
Craig Gerber: 1) Yes, but a 2-part special is only 22-minutes total now. 2) Yes, quite a few.
Source: https://bsky.app/profile/craiggerber.co ... hxy6i45s2nQ: After this new sequel, is there any chance to get a season 5 of Sofia the First?
Craig Gerber: No chance whatsoever. This is basically season 5, done in a new style for a new audience. Story-wise, it's a continuation even though we are not picking up old storylines. One silver lining is that there are 3 friends from the OG show returning who have not yet been announced.
Source: https://bsky.app/profile/craiggerber.co ... 7xra52hk2vQ: Ever since I fixated on Crackle a bit yesterday, I wish that she would return sometime in the future.
Craig Gerber: Crackle was a great character (voiced by Ellie Kemper - who is the woman in all the Kohl commercials now). But I don't see how we can bring Crackle back without bringing Vivian and Vivian's voice actor is too busy to do our show now.
Source: https://bsky.app/profile/craiggerber.co ... aes7gkls24Q: May I ask if Amber and James will continue to be deuteragonist and tritagonist of this new show, or if they'll become supporting characters and get less screen time?
Craig Gerber: They are supporting characters in this show but there will still be some episodes focused on them.
Source: https://bsky.app/profile/craiggerber.co ... f3ic5lnk24Q: How much more will we see of her parents?
Craig Gerber: We will see them here and there.
Source: https://bsky.app/profile/craiggerber.co ... t3hyb22k2fQ: Any possible of Yvette doing a dual role of the teacher + Elena?
Craig Gerber: She's just a teacher for now. Lady Saddlespur. She's in charge of all the magical creatures at Charmswell and is also the Flying Derby coach.

Q: There's only 5 shorts?
Craig Gerber: Our primary production team is making 10 shorts that will come out next year. These 5 are marketing driven. The shorts are fun in their own right but not representative of the show style. The character personalities are the same and the set-up of the school and world are the same but that's about it.
Q: Can you reveal which kingdoms Layla and Camila are from, or is that even mentioned in the show?
Craig Gerber: The kingdom names are mentioned in the show and it's no big spoiler to reveal them here. Layla is from Mezzouk. Camila is from Maralinda. Zane is from Gloomshire, as is his sister, Zaria, who also attends Charmswell.
Source: https://bsky.app/profile/craiggerber.co ... 4virhnjc2cQ: Why does Roland always seem to be wearing a crown? That wasn't the case in the old show.

Craig Gerber: 4 for me and I hope so too.
Source: https://bsky.app/profile/craiggerber.co ... dcxqakek2fQ: I have a few questions about Layla’s father being crowned king just a week before school starts. But I imagine that’s gonna get elaborated later.
Craig Gerber: The show does not really get into the details of it. But I can share that he was already nobility before becoming King.
Source: https://bsky.app/profile/craiggerber.co ... dcsmcv222fQ: Your show stands out because, to my knowledge, it's the first time in which Disney released a new show on a Monday holiday. Like, I know some Disney shows had new episodes or specials on Monday holidays, but premiering a new show is interesting.
Craig Gerber: You are correct. They haven't really done that in the past. I think it's an effort to catch the kids who still watch linear TV. The larger focus is the Disney Plus launch on Tuesday. Those are the "ratings" that truly matter for the future of the show.
Source: https://bsky.app/profile/craiggerber.co ... c7qhkpmc2pQ: My kid's a Sofia superfan, and I've been enjoying it myself. If you don't mind, she has lots of questions, but I'll start with the main ones. 1) Will Mia, Robin, and Tilly return here? 2) Why did Sofia's dress become lilac purple again? 3) Why are new viewers the top priority?
Craig Gerber: To answer your questions: 1) Mia and Robin are back. Tilly, maybe eventually. 2) Don't most kids get at least one new outfit for the new school year? 3) The core audience for this type of show will always be 2-7 year olds. So they are the top priority. And most of them will be new viewers.

Craig Gerber: Yes.
Source: https://bsky.app/profile/craiggerber.co ... rc6bvlis2mQ: Will there be any other characters from the OG show returning apart from Ruby and Jade?

Q: As which character?
Craig Gerber: Just some funny temporary background voices for our animatics. I leave the real voices to the pros!
Source: https://www.instagram.com/disneyjr/reel/DU11t78AQVB/Q: Is it a sequel?
Craig Gerber: It's a sequel, taking place three months after the original Sofia series ended. But it is not going to be picking up any of the storylines from the original show because we don't want to confuse the new preschool audience with a bunch of things they needed to have known from before.
I totally get where you are coming from - it would have been very exciting to continue those storylines and age the show up for the OG fans but the company wanted a show for current preschoolers. So we have done the best we and could to bring back elements and characters from the OG show as much as we can. And there are some new twists that I think will excite OG fans. But it is mostly for the new generation.
Q: How many seasons?
Craig Gerber: Just 1 so far but it's a long one!

Beanie is a flying horse with a need for speed, Tony is a wicked wand thief, Ethan Slater and Jeremy Jordan are feisty puppercorns, and Rachel Bloom and Nat Faxon are the King and Queen of Gloomshire! And there's still more cast to be announced!
Q: Could we expect Elena coming as a guest in the series?
Craig Gerber: Well, there will be princess visits and it's up to me to choose who shows up (if the studio approves of course) so...
Q: Will we see Sofia’s old friends?
Craig Gerber: Some of them.
Source: https://www.instagram.com/craigsgerber/p/DWrsMnqEpJ9/Craig Gerber: Finally the news is out - Princess Elena will reunite with Sofia in Sofia the First: Royal Magic! Which is particularly amazing because it means I get to work with the ultra-talented Aimee Carrero again - who fortunately had time in between all her movies and TV shows to stop by the studio and belt out a few tunes!
The amulet in the new series is the same color it was at the end of the first Sofia series - or as close as we could get with the new animation software. Sofia’s amulet turned a pinkish color after Elena came out of it. That is the color of the amulet at the beginning of the new series.
Q: Is the new animation software also the reason Sofia is sporting the dress she wore at the start of the original series and not the one she wore at the end?
Craig Gerber: Regarding the dress, there was just a decision made to put her in a dress like her original but a new shade of purple.
Clover, Robin, and Mia are coming back. For what it's worth, the new faces match Elena’s design very well. We didn’t really have to change Elena at all to blend in with the new style. It’s hard to bring back Crackle without Vivian and the voice of Vivian is not available due to being a pop superstar now.
Because this show starts right after the original Sofia ends, Elena has not become queen yet. Can’t wait for you to see her adventures with Sofia!
Source: https://www.instagram.com/nicoledubucink/p/DX7VORRGczm/Nicole Dubuc: It was super fun to write the Sofia the First: Magical Friends shorts with Craig Gerber, Krystal Banzon, and the whole Sofia team! So grateful for the chance to visit this enchanting world - and guess what, it already came with a griffin, I didn't even have to add one! Looking forward to watching the other eps as they roll out!
Craig Gerber: The shorts I've seen so far have turned out super-cute and funny. Thanks for jumping in and writing these!
Source: https://www.instagram.com/craigsgerber/p/DYIvXuhP5AH/Craig Gerber: The first song from Sofia the First: Royal Magic - Time to Shine - is out on YouTube, Apple Music, Spotify and probably wherever you stream music. Written by Keith Harrison Dworkin and yours truly (on the lyrics side of things), this song gives you a sneak peek of what Sofia will up to in our premiere episode…which is only a few weeks away!
Q: Did John Kavanaugh come back for this?
Craig Gerber: John is working on the new show and writing a bunch of songs for it. (Just not this one)
Q: It’s pretty great song, but just why Miss Nettle is now the headmistress of the Charmswell School? I do know that she turned good in Sofia the First. It’s really weird and needs to get to use it.
Craig Gerber: I think Miss Nettle was inspired by her former mentors, the Three Good Fairies, and decided to open a school for royal magic. There may be other reasons that we come to learn eventually.
Source: https://www.instagram.com/craigsgerber/p/DYxRQSoGiVU/Q: What can you tell us about Camila, Layla and Zane's kingdoms? Will we learn more about them?
Craig Gerber: We visit one of them in season 1. If we get a season 2, we will visit the others.
Source: https://www.instagram.com/craigsgerber/p/DYzlo3EMElk/Craig Gerber: "This is the day I’ve been dreaming of all summer..." Sofia the First: Royal Magic is finally streaming on Disney Plus after 4 years of hard work from so many people. Shout outs to Kris Wimberly, our Supervising Director, Krystal Banzon, our Head Writer, Francis Giglio, our Art Director and Craig Simpson, our Producer. We couldn’t have done all this without your artistry and leadership. Thanks to all the cast and crew for putting all your heart into the show. Extra special thanks to ICON Creative Studio for bringing our vision to the screen with such dedication, talent and attention to detail. It’s the most beautiful show I’ve ever made because of your team of digital wizards. And the biggest thanks of all to everyone who tunes in to watch. Hope you have a magically royal time!
Q: Which batch of episodes will Elena potentially appear in?
Craig Gerber: It's not for a little while. We haven’t even finished that episode yet. Just got the first lit animation pass this weekend. It was pretty cool to see Elena again after all these years!
Q: Do you know at what point in her show that’d she’d be appearing in this one?
Craig Gerber: Technically, right in the middle of season 1.
Q: How many episodes or seasons will the have show have?
Craig Gerber: There are 30 episodes total in season 1.
Q: I kind of had to laugh at the episode title being announced without the title card. Disney Jr still doing that after all these years!
Craig Gerber: They told me they did that so they don’t have to put up a subtitle.
Source: https://www.instagram.com/craigsgerber/ ... 6LAaEsjML/Q: I was a little confused as to why James is attending EverRealm Academy because I thought he chose to attend Chivalry Hall for his training to become a knight.
Craig Gerber: James decided he’d rather be with Amber at her school. He can always train to be a knight at the castle with actual knights.
Q: Who decides which songs go into the soundtrack? There are a bunch of songs from the first batch of episodes that aren’t included, and there are some from future episodes as well. I’m just curious about the decision-making process.
Craig Gerber: Someone in the music department sent me a list of songs at some point and asked what I thought. I can’t remember whether I had any suggestions but the total number of songs is capped and a bunch of other folks were weighing in on what songs would make sense for a soundtrack release. So I guess my answer is “I don’t really know.”
Q: Which song is the one with Rapunzel?
Craig Gerber: Be Bold and Unstoppable feature Rapunzel.
Q: This is the best soundtrack ever! It's just missing an Amber x Sofia song!
Craig Gerber: Sofia and Amber sing a really sweet song together later in the season. I think it’s worth waiting for!

What a cute logo, despite how it`s not as different as the first. I wonder if this reboot is going to have new cameos from the Princesses.

I'm so excited that the Disney Princesses are returning for this show! Will they sing new songs? Will they wear different dresses? (Remember that in the original show they wore the redesigned dresses from 2012.)

Rapunzel looks really great in this first view. She also looks more accurate to the original Rapunzel instead of lookin like the designs used in the DP franchise. I hope that the rest of the Princess would get a more accurate look too. Cinderella looked awful in the original show and she deserves to look great!

Re: Sofia the First: Royal Magic
So instead of Sofia’s amulet summoning princesses, they now arrive by horse back to deliver her messages from the “Council of Princesses”. This implies that their realms actually coexist with one another, and kingdoms like Corona are canon in her universe.
I hope we get to see this council and see all of them together like in Ralph Breaks the Internet.
Rapunzel mentions that Cinderella, Ariel and the Fairy Godmother from Cinderella are part of the council.

Oooooh, interesting! I liked the realms being their own magic, separate realms before, though. Each Disney film is its own world.

That doesn't make any sense. The princesses are clearly not from the same time period.

Here's what the showrunner, Craig Gerber, had to say about the princesses being featured in the show.
Source: https://www.instagram.com/craigsgerber/p/DYxRQSoGiVU/Craig Gerber wrote:In the world of Sofia, the EverRealm includes all the other princesses' kingdoms except the ones in the "real world" if those locations were stated in their movies (e.g. New Orleans).
Source: https://bsky.app/profile/craiggerber.co ... prt355222kQ: Is Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure even canon? How was it possible for Rapunzel to get to Enchancia?
Craig Gerber: I usually work off the movies being the only canon I follow. In Sofia, all the princesses are in the same realm except the ones where a real world location is stated in their movie. The EverRealm is outside of our world's timeline. Like NeverLand.
Source: https://bsky.app/profile/craiggerber.co ... rhdp6juc2cQ: I have a question on about the princess council. Do some of the princess have to use magic time travel to attend? Because sure, I can agree that Rapunzel and Sofia has somewhat the same timeline but what about the ones who have a historical background?
Craig Gerber: The short answer is yes. A few of them do. In the past, folks spent a lot of time asking me what century Sofia took place, as if it existed in the real world. To me, all the Disney kingdoms are in an alternate dimension outside of real world timeframes except the ones with stated real-world names. In Sofia, I call that dimension the EverRealm. All this was hinted at in the original series. The map of the world used in the show and globe in the series finale do not match the real world continents. Tiana's reaction to appearing suggests that she underwent a more magical journey than the others. In the Sofia series finale, I also had Vor literally describe Neverland - "the island of pirates and fairies" - as the gateway from the EverRealm to our world - which was the next place she wanted to conquer.
Source: https://bsky.app/profile/craiggerber.co ... tsz6fg2s2zQ: So, what you are saying is that some Disney princesses exist within Sofia world/timeline, while other Disney princesses exist in others?
Craig Gerber: Yes that is what I am saying. I am also saying that I don't think the Disney Princess movies that take place in made-up kingdoms should be locked into real-world historical timeframes. Just like NeverLand is outside of a real-world timeline, I think the EverRealm should be, too.

Re: Sofia the First: Royal Magic
That's really interesting!
So, according to this theory, which princesses live in the real world? Only the ones which say a real location in their movies?
Belle in France
Mulan in China
Tiana in New Orleans
Any others?
