So, this book has officially come out in the U.S., Walt Disney's Cinderella: 75th Anniversary Edition:

Anything done off-model, like the pumpkin coach leaves and top, or Cinderella's huge ball skirt, are done on purpose to be a unique take on the film, and the painterliness is lush and beautiful, with pretty landscapes and extra details.

Still, this is probably my fourth or fifth favorite story retelling of the film (fifth if the first two books I ranked #1 were split into #1 and #2), so the order is:
#1. Disney Cinderella (Big Golden Book)/Cinderella: The Story of Cinderella
Image

The art style used in these two books tied for 1st is perfection and her dress looks blue or silver depending on the printing of the art but it looks gorgeous in all that glowing magic either way. I don't think they ever made an illustration of the pumpkin in this art style meant to be used in any scene in any of the books that use this artwork, though, and that is all that really holds it back other than a few mistakes and a little derpy drawing in a scene or two.

#2. Cinderella Classic Storybook
Image
Image
The writing is the most perfectly detailed version other than the '80s Big Golden book which has such bad illustrations I didn't even rank it. I love the way they did her transformation illustration with her holding her gown from the fountain look and getting to see the glass slippers written about while the magic is still swirling around her. No pumpkin though.

#3. Cinderella, A Brave Princess

This book was only made in French but I had to have it because the illustrations are beautiful and extremely on-model. Still missing the pumpkin and a few scenes.

Funny enough the 75th anniversary book DOES show the pumpkin, so, that one gets enough points to be ranked #4/#5. It's just that the book retells the story only like you have already seen the film, and that's great, especially for someone like me who has seen it so much, but then it's missing details that I would like in a book that tells "the entire" story.

I'll have to pick up that book, it's gorgeous. I just wanted to know the inside was as pretty as the cover first.

Hey Duster, is this the one you meant? The one that had bad illustrations?

If it's not baroque, don't fix it.

In my opinion this book is much better than the Sleeping Beauty one. This one is really bad and the characters and colors look really bad. The cinderella one is not bad at all.

I remember you saying you wanted to see if the book's inside was as good as its outside when we saw the cover! I am so glad you find the inside gorgeous and will pick up the book. There are way more gorgeous illustrations I didn't take pics of. You are in for a treat!

No, I meant this one:

Couple things my Cinderella-obsessed mind wants to say about those, though. The illustrations in the Big Golden Book I just posted a pic of in this post actually has better illustrations than the Disney Classic Series book you posted, it's just they are still not near as good as the ones I ranked. Also, even though there are indeed also a lot of bad illustrations in the Disney Classic Series book, I like it because it has the pumpkin starting to turn into the coach, which is missing from every book I ranked! I miss that scene, but the 2012 art makes up for it with how beautiful it does the coach and dress scenes. I have childhood nostalgia for both books books we last posted pics of, but they aren't as good as the ones I ranked. Also, there's off-modelness and bad anatomy in both the Big Golden Book and Disney Classic Series book. An artist friend of mine also pointed out the Fairy Godmother's arms aren't quite right in the #2 book I posted, and there's some mistakes, but that's the case with every book so, altogether, the books I ranked I like better.

The Sleeping Beauty one has awful blank spaces, but I can't remember anything off-model other than some colors. Maleficent needed to be green and purple! I guess Cinderella's book is better than it.

I remember it really bad but maybe I should take another look to it. The best one in my opinion is TLM one but it's because of the nostalgia.

The TLM one is great. But all these big format books got way better re-dos in the 90s.

What a cool find! So nice to hear Walt wanting the story sincere and not even tongue-in-cheek, and wanting humor from characters and not surface gags. I’d say some very slight humor comes from Cinderella when dealing with the mice and Lucifer, and then a lot of humor comes from the characters of the mice, Lucifer, the stepsisters, the King and Grand Duke, and even one moment from the stepmother(“Above all, self control. YES?!!”). Also interesting to hear how he wanted songs to do what animation that wouldn’t be very amusing couldn’t do.

I won’t be watching the special myself, as I do not like the doll. Cinderella is fashionable and this doll is nothing impressive.

This cover reminds of an official book for the film that I had as a child. It had bad illustrations too but I loved it so much!! I still have it somewhere. 😂💖

Even though the book you re-posted the cover of had bad illustrations, I loved the book as a child so dearly.
