Re: Moana (Live-Action)
To give my overall impression about the trailer, it was a fine enough trailer. It captured the tone and feel of it`s animated predecessor. Catherine Laga'aia is cute enough as Moana, despite how she looks fairly younger than her animated counterpart. My favorite parts were with the Ocean bending to Moana and Tala, the underwater scenes, the Kakamora, Maui`s transformation to a whale and Maui`s hook glowing at night. The Mini-Maui looked exacty like he did in the animated movie, as did Te Kā. At least Pua looked like an animal.
The part of Hei Hei was grating and felt out of place. But regarding Dwayne Johnson as Maui, it`s strange to see the character skinny, as Maui was supposed to be massive (no offense). He looks somewhat weird in a slimmer version, as we`re used to see Maui as massive. Tamatoa looked at least fine (despite how he was my one of my least favorite elements of the original). And shrugs, their still keeping the contrived and misplaced "Princess"-comment.

The trailer getting bombed like that aint good news.
Aladdin faced the very same thing, and turned out more than fine. But in that case, the crowd was responding to a very specific feature--uncanny Genie--that ended up being fixed across post-production. Here, it's a lot more general than all that, so it remains to be seen whether this movie can pull off a heel-turn.

If I may ask, what are your guys‘s thoughts compared to the Harry Potter trailer on this? Because I personally find that that looks way more like AI slop than Moana here which actually looks more than perfectly fine, it’s only real issue being that it’s too shot for shot like the original, but aesthetically and technically it looks fine even quite good in some places.
The Harry Potter trailer may very well be one of the worst trailers I’ve ever seen, as it immediately screams AI slop, and like it was fan made right on YouTube, because I was actually watching some fan made YouTube movies not that long ago a few days before this, and reminded me exactly of them, where is Moana looks like a way more competent Hollywood made movie regardless of comparisons to this

Re: Moana (Live-Action)
Speaking just for myself, I much prefer the new "Harry Potter" trailer, which was absolutely not a given.
I feel like with only a few short snapshots, it did a really impressive job at communicating the magic of the story, both the literal "Wingardium Leviosa" magic, and also just like the magic of childhood, of friendship, and the like. Little clips of the kids having like a snowball fight did a lot to win me over. The jury's obviously still out until this Christmas, but this was probably the best first impression they could ask for.
The "Moana" trailer, meanwhile ... I didn't hate it. There's a chance I might like the lead actress or some of the new songs. But if I can't help but wonder whether we need another "Harry Potter" adaptation so soon, you can probably imagine how much room I'm willing to afford for another "Moana."

The new harry potter looks horrible, but not in an ai slop kind of way. I just hate how modern things tend to be color graded and lit. Its far too dark and the lighting is so soft.

Good thing, too. Think they've finally learned audiences want their remakes faithful, no matter what the Twitter crowd says about the trailers in the leadup to release. Ignoring Twitter is more often than not the path to success. Both Moana and HP will be massive. One or two things I want to see more of about HP, but Moana already looks better than the original in certain ways.

This girl looks more like Moana than the actress Disney hired to play her in the remake.

Re: Moana (Live-Action)
Dwayne Johnson and the way he looks over whatever the original design was is the main thing. I know some have claimed the original design is a racial stereotype or whatever, and that it doesn't properly represent the character from the myth. Then there's having someone else playing Moana, surely her voice might be better than Cravalho's. And even Tala looks slightly more interesting. The original character always feels like it's going for the same zany wise woman character trope of so many better movies like Grandmother Willow, Grandmother Fa, Magi Lune, etc., but she--like most of Moana--always felt sanded down to the point she mostly left me cold. Just having a real person onscreen might give the character a little more life, who knows.

En esta nueva foto, Dwyane tiene más Photoshop que en toda la sesión de fotos que se hizo para la temporada de Hannah Montana Forever.Sotiris wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2026 9:45 am New image.
