I have never bought any of these light up figures— I never buy anything with lights because I expect them to break down. But this one’s in my cart!! So rare to get anything of Mary in her traveling costume, and I just think it’s a beautiful piece.

A new Mary Poppins 'making of' book is coming out.
In this captivating book, Todd James Pierce details the process from conception through production, including the challenges that the boys―and Disney―faced in dealing with author P. L. Travers and persuading her that their vision for the film would resonate with audiences. While the Shermans and their songs are at the heart of the book, there are also lively anecdotes about the casting of the movie, the innovative special effects, and the relationship between “Mary Poppins” and the larger Disney world. Making Mary Poppins tells the fascinating story behind an iconic film.

How interesting— I’m guessing this book isn’t authorized by Disney which is why it doesn’t use MP artwork on the cover. That’s not necessarily a bad thing at all, but the author may not have had access to the Disney archives which could limit the scope of his research. Since it’s focused on the Sherman Brothers, perhaps he was able to interview Richard Sherman before he died? Or maybe their children have involvement?

Awesome news! Despite how it`s still astonishing that they didn`t release one last year, for it`s Anniversary. But I`m wondering if it`s going to have some pictures in it.

Just wanted to say Mary Poppins will be shown on TCM on December 13 in honor of Dick Van Dyke’s 100th birthday. Bye Bye Birdie will also be shown. Unedited without commercial interruption.

I’m excited because I hope this means Disney will make more of its films available on TCM especially content from the Walt era. I remember when TCM would feature all Disney programming one evening each month hosted by Leonard Maltin. I loved those Disney nights!

I received an e-mail from Degenhart Music the other day--they had released the full score sheet music for Cinderella--promoting what their next Disney release would be and it's going to be Mary Poppins.

Even at 100, Dick is actually still a cutie. You made it to such a milestone, man!

Same!! I can't wait. I'm so excited to see the Mary Poppins score get the royal treatment that it deserves. The Cinderella score he published was fantastic.
