Hand-Drawn Animation Dead at Disney

So, I was looking to buy some 16 field animation paper, particularly the same type Aaron Blaise uses, and it turns out they ran out of stock, and will never have it back in stock, as there's no demand for it.

This bummed me out becuase I wanted to try it with my animation disc.
So I checked ebay for some and while they didnt have the the ingram bound paper, I managed to find a small stack of actual paper they used at disney in the 90s. I won the auction, and was the only bidder. lol

Aaron Blaise's short Snow Bear is now available in full. I don't know how long it will be up, so if you're interested, I suggest you get to it sooner rather than later. I absolutely loved it. It has great animation, great storytelling, and tugs at the heartstrings without being saccharine. Better than anything Disney has put out in recent years. I highly recommend it.

Its not going to get taken down, that'd be silly. They already let it run its course on other outlets for the award circuit, its here to stay.

I was pleasantly surprised to see he uploaded this in 4k, the previous upload for paid viewing on vimeo was stuck at a compressed 1080p. This looks better.

I was very impressed with the animation, especially considering Aaron Blaise animated the entire thing himself.

The film is set in the future where polar bears are more scarce as they're going extinct. The PSA at the end states "we could lose most of the world's polar bears by the end of the century unless collective action is taken to slow global warming".

Andreas Deja's animated short, Muskha has finally been released. Its not free, but its only 3 bucks, and its 28 mins long. Seems like a fair price. (its higher on other platforms or some reason) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0G3XXR29M

As we wrap up the year, its kinda wild we got as much hand drawn as we did this year, despite still being in what I'd call a drought period of sorts for the level of hand drawn a lot of us look for.

Those are pretty well-made. The Anastasia one is more impressive given Anya is a character more difficult to keep on-model. Thanks for sharing!

I thought his Anya and Jasmine animation was bad. :/ Like big heads on disproportionate, stiff rotoscoped bodies.

I mean, sure, its not perfect, but its rare to find anyone even attempting animation on this level, so I still gotta give props where its due. I dont think calling it bad is giving it nearly enough credit. Most would just do some lousy cut out animation to do this.

I guess Disney and Don Bluth standards are in my head when watching those! ^-^' But you do make a great point about the attempt. At least they attempted some ambitious, true hand-drawn.
