Still wish we were getting more movies Despite the differences from the books, They are a lot more fun than the series, and are actually ironically more loyal, at the very least Less woke And at least authentic and loyal to what it would be like if they were older which does work better with the overall lot and story. It’s way more grounded focussed plausible possible and believable. While they could’ve had more from the books, I honestly don’t understand the overall hate That they get, especially since I’ve seen a lot of people think so eventually grown to state that they think the movies are at least decent

It is kind of ironic to me that one of the huge selling points of this new show was that they were (finally!) going to have age-appropriate actors (i.e. actors the same as the characters in the books) for this adaptation, but Walker already looks like he's ready to declare a major.

Interesting. I'm hoping this means that our Aphrodite will be funny.

I'm also feeling like we should have heard about casting for Apollo by now. He appears in the books before Aphrodite does.

I know the somewhat darker tone has alienated some in the fanbase, but I think it serves the material really well, especially in adaptation where you can like physically see the threat. I'm excited to see the Scylla, Charybdis encounter.

First episodes of the new season dropped tonight.

I think I'm going to like this season.

I felt like the first episode was a bit patchy, pacing-wise. I get the motivation behind us seeing Luke poison the tree, but it stumbles on too many other plot points.

I also feel like the show tends to bump up against its production limits. I can imagine that this show is probably one of Disney's more expensive shows, but I feel like it needs a larger allowance. Camp Half-Blood still feels a little cramped to me.

Tyson has always been one of the clunkier plot points. This adaptation has probably found the cleanest way to get him in, but their itinerary is like ... "He's Percy's brother, but he doesn't know that he's his brother even though Percy should know where Cyclopes come from and even though Percy's his only friend ..." It's just a lot of contrivances getting him into this situation.

Those aside ...

I liked the extra effort to underscore the situation with stronger emotional stakes. My big note with the books is that Percy doesn't really get a lot of compelling internal conflicts after that first book, and so I like that we're working harder to give him distinct beginning/ending points as a character. He and Annabeth appear to have a specific tension between the two of them this round, and I'm hoping that plays out across the season.

The cast is as good as ever. A part of me is disappointed that Scobell grew up so quickly and that we only got one season where he felt like a "kid," but I also think that he works really well as a more matured hero. I also think that Timothy Simmons is like the right kind of annoying.

The chariot-race scene ... I mean everything I said about the show feeling like it needs a bigger budget, but I still think this segment worked really well as a vehicle for a plot and character information.

Saw the lead actor on Live With Kelly and Mark, he seemed completely overwhelmed. Nice guy anyway.

I might eventually watch this in one go one day if they ever finish it. But I only read the book series the one time. Good, but not something I'd return to very often. As I recall, Sea of Monsters was the worst of the 5, so only up from here if it survives. I'd put this around the level of A Series of Unfortunate Events, although that was more childish while also having more artistic merit than PJ. It's a shame ASoUE is soooo long that it will likely never get an adaptation that covers the whole series. I almost think of it like a children's version of the show LOST. By that I mean a story with continual questions / mysteries and few answers.

Um, even though I haven’t seen it yet, Netflix did the whole complete a series of unfortunate events as a series, and if I may ask, what are your thoughts on that movie and the Percy Jackson movies, the ladder of which are better than this atrocious show?

You're right. I think I watched a few episodes when it started, but didn't know it ever finished. A shame Netflix doesn't release things on Blu-ray, I would have more time to watch it that way, but at least it did get the full way through.

New season's going pretty strong. I really enjoyed this week's episode.

I stand by my observations that the show on the whole could use a larger budget, but I was really impressed with the Scylla/Charybdis encounter.

And this was also capping off a very character-centric episode. I can see the tethers to the source material, but I feel like the show is doing a good job so far at deepening characters like Annabeth and Clarisse.

Annabeth wondered if Luke was right about her two months with Thalia and Luke not meaning much. That’s when Percy said the “special” line. Jeffries tells TV Insider what Annabeth was thinking in response to that line in the video interview above.

“Her mind is so crowded by stuff, I think genuinely it’s hard for her to see different ways. In that moment, she probably did feel more loved, because she’s losing people,” Jeffries explains, adding, “[Percy] saying that, she did feel more loved by it.”

The scene is a turning point for Percy and Annabeth, according to executive producer Jonathan E. Steinberg. It’s “one of a few this season,” he notes. This scene, and this friendship’s Season 2 storyline all season long, is about “being more to each other than just someone who is similarly lonely.”

It’s about “being somebody who comes to this relationship with a really specific history and baggage and damage, and the ability to be honest about that and disclose it to each other,” Steinberg adds. “[That’s] happening in chapters through the season. And right in the middle of the season is a big one for her to be opening that door to him and [be] willing to make herself vulnerable in that way.”
