“Early on we said that has to be about the Judy and Nick relationship and continuing that. If we’re not honed in on that, if we’re not deepening that, you don’t care. You can put any crazy set piece in there that you want. But if you’re not delivering on that core relationship and surprising people and challenging them and challenging those characters, it doesn’t matter. That was fundamental from the beginning,” added Bush, who, in addition to writing and directing “Zootopia 2,” is the Chief Creative Officer for Walt Disney Animation Studios.
What Howard and Bush were constantly being reminded of was that “in the midst of all the entertainment that Nick and Judy are at the center.” The pair is really the core of the story, “not chasing shiny objects.”
Sounds promising! :) Atleast WDAS has still some directors left that know how to build a movie. Honestly im trying to be optimistic with this one, as the Trailer looked fun enough and that it has the same Team and director from the first and Encanto was kinda the Studios strongest movie this decade regarding pop cultural impact. Im begging WDAS to put all their Disney Animationussy and dedication in this one as after Wish, Strange Flop and Moan 2 this is my final straw for the studio and then i gotta stan Sony Animation... lgm

Yeah, my standing affection for the Disney legacy is evergreen, but this will be a major turning point for how much energy I can muster for their coming attractions. I can only be burned so many times.

Thankfully, these early signs are promising.

I'm hoping this has strong returns. It might help build enough momentum to audiences back in the habit of seeing Disney movies for Thanksgiving again, which would give HEXED a boost next year.

I'm thinking the situation requires sustained efforts. Getting people in the habit of seeing Disney movies in theaters again instead of just waiting for Disney+ is key, and the only way people will do that en masse right now appears to be if that movie has a number in its title. Moana 2 would have helped get the ball rolling (its sole contribution to the landscape ...) and another billion dollar hit might get people interested in seeing Disney movies again.

This is all, of course, conditional upon a thousand other factors, I acknowledge, but this has the opportunity to lay some useful groundwork.

Lotsa Disney alumni here. Auli'i, Josh Gad, John Leguizamo, Stephanie Beatriz, plus like a billion others from out of Disney

Anyways, the positive reactions are encouraging, but still not conclusive. IO2 was also praised as being very socially mindful and having great worldbuilding, and that one didn't really land for me.

Im so happy the movies reviews look great :D , i mean theres no reason its gonna be dull like Wish and Moan2 with their troubled production, my whole family is actually excited to see it in theatres as they also loved the first (we saw it in theatres when i was Literally 11 and now im gonna be 21 when it comes... in my old era  💔💔💔 ). Also loved the Marketing with the glambots (or should i say Zoobots? HA HA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA👹). The stupid Zoo song starts to get catchy and i have no doubt this one is gonna surpass the originals Box office numbers (moan2 was trash and still managed 1 Billion so with Zoo2s good reviews that are hopefully not bought this will make a splash with no doubt). Hopefully this will bring great writing and compelling characters back to the studio! Fingers crossed!

Will ‘Zootopia 2,’ ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ and Other Holiday Hopefuls Salvage the 2025 Box Office?
https://variety.com/2025/film/box-offic ... 236590263/
Thanksgiving will provide plenty to be thankful for. Already, “Wicked: For Good” shattered the first film’s domestic debut with $147 million and will undoubtedly score again in its second weekend. Meanwhile “Zootopia 2,” the sequel to 2016’s billion-dollar blockbuster, is primed for juggernaut status. There hasn’t been a family film since “The Bad Guys 2” in August, so the second “Zootopia” will benefit from pent-up demand — and could become the year’s second release to join the $1 billion club after May’s “Lilo & Stitch” remake.

“It’s going to be a phenomenal Thanksgiving, which will set a great track through the end of the year,” says Jim Orr, domestic distribution chief at Universal, the studio behind “Wicked: For Good.” Orr believes people still love going to movies but argues the “audience is very discerning today for what gets them over the theatrical bar.”

Exhibitors are aware they need to offer something that audiences can’t get at home. Pennsylvania-based Lindsay Theater has tried to make moviegoing feel like an event. To celebrate “Wicked,” employees are decking out the theater with pink and green balloons and Instagram-worthy photo displays. For “Zootopia,” a wildlife wrangler from the Pittsburgh Zoo will stop by with a corn snake.

“It makes all the difference when we go the extra mile,” says Linsday CEO Carolina Pais-Barreto Thor. “It’s the personal touch that differentiates us from multiplexes and keeps people coming back.”

I've watched Zootopia 2 yesterday and I thought it was ok. It was a bit above average, but it wasn't amazing. I know that's an unpopular opinion, but it's just the pacing of the movie was a bit too slow for me. Nick and Judy spent way too much trying to find Gary the Snake and the villains felt a little undeveloped. There was never a scene with the Lynxely scene family interacting with each other in private which is one thing I noticed a lot of great Disney villains did in the past, they would either scheme in private and we would see them try put their plans together or they would interact with their minion which sets their dynamic. My memories aren't the greatest so I might be misremembering or misinterpreting the movie, but that's how I remembered it.

Also the twist villain of this movie didn't have enough screen time, making it hard for me to make me feel invested in them. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if originally this movie was going to be a show, but instead Disney changed into a movie so they can make more money. That's how it felt for me, if this is was a show, I think the story would've been a 10/10 rather than 6.5-7/10 for me.

Well, it would`ve been nice if that was the case. As audiences have simply turned away from original animated properties lately and given them a cold shoulder (giving fuel to the fire to the shallow stigma of how mostly franchises makes big bucks these days). But it wouldn`t hold my breath too soon...

I saw it yesterday and I loved it! It had heart and had some funny moments. I got out of it what I expected. It definitely was the Nick and Judy show, with other characters from the first movie sidelined, but it was still really enjoyable.

Glad you liked it, Amy! It seems to be getting a fairly positive response from audiences across the board.

I’m looking forward to seeing it— I just got a new job, but won’t get paid until the middle of next month so it’ll have to wait till then.
