Hello all,
I am trying to find a TV special that I remember airing around the time that Hercules came out. If I remember correctly it featured Bobcat Goldthwait and later on in the special Susan Egan sang Megara's song in a bar-like setting and I believe Michael Bolton sang "Go the Distance", but I can't even seem to find indication of it anywhere on the internet. I checked and it's not "The making of Hercules" or the "Movie Surfers-Hercules". Does anyone else remember this and possibly have a link to a video of it? Thanks!

I was really into Hercules at the time but I dont remember anything like that...weird.
could it have been something done for the morning show(Good Morning America or whatever its called on ABC) where they had guests/segments on the show to promote the movie?

I think I remember that. Was that when the Electrical Parade rolled through Manhattan and had Hercules floats? I remember seeing that on TV (and I lived in CA not NY, so it wasn't the news).Nymbus wrote:Hello all,

Wow...11 years late, but here's the info you requested.
Yes, there was such a TV special, and I know this is true because I was the First Assistant Director on the project.
The special starred Bobcat Goldthwaite, Matt Frewer, Michael Bolton, and the absolutely delightful Susan Egan.
We shot with Matt and Bobcat at Hudson's Bluff Sea Cave, which you can look up on Google Earth. It's next to the location of the old Marineland of the Pacific, where the Terranea Resort is now.
Can't recall if we did everything in one day or two days, but we also shot at Los Angeles' Union Station, in an old Restaurant and cocktail lounge space, which I believe is called the Fred Harvey historic venue. It's South of the main entrance and concourse. There have been rumors over the years that some developers would be reopening the space as a restaurant, but I don't believe anything is moving in that direction. However, it is available as a filming location, and I've shot there for several projects. SIDE NOTE: If you ever have the opportunity to stick your head in there, the cocktail lounge space is a throwback in time and amazing.
The Harvey space is where we filmed Susan Egan's performance, and also Michael Bolton's.
Here's a fun little tid-bit...we were lit, set and ready to shoot Bolton, but he wouldn't come on set until he'd shampoo'd and dried his hair. This was when he still had long locks. The kicker was Bolton wanted a specific shampoo--Prell. My take was, since it's a clarifying shampoo--and Michael's look in videos and tv shows at that time, was his hair being blown by a light breeze, he wanted to wash out any product so we'd be able to help him with that. So we waited.
And waited.
And waited.
