I kinda thought so because Camilo was a huge Fan favourite besides Luisa and Dolores. I think their popularity would be ranked like this: 1. Luisa, 2. Camilo, 3. Dolores, 4. Isabela, 5. Antonio, 6. Bruno, 7. Pepa, 8. Mirabel, 9. Julieta. All based on amount of fanart/fiction, Tiktok edits, Tweets and more. The directors themselves even wanted to include a Mini arc for Camilo at the end but scrapped it so the emotional focus after the climax only stays on Mirabel  which is understandable of course but still.( https://x.com/thejaredbush/status/14849 ... 50083?s=20 ). So him being the only one (besides Julieta and the 2 dads but...nah) who didnt show his insecurities or problematic situation that got fixed with their arcs, hes the only blank paper that has potential for a fresh independent and emotional plotline.
Also forgot to mention that even Bruno of course got his arc from outcast to family member. So Camilo (or even Dolores) would be the only ones that really would make sense to fully explore next.

I can see them doing a prequel movie/ series too, but I think they already covered up the most Important aspects of Almas past with the Dos Orugitas sequence, so it would be kinda unnecassary.

I can also see them also doing a plotline where "outsiders" get into the Encanto village and later on huge troops (maybe the same ones from Almas past) storm the village to get access to the Magic of the Encanto, and the Madrigals have to defend their home, although I think that would be too similar to Atlantis. :-P
So Disney just stick with Camilo pretty please. :pink: :pink: :pink:
If a Camilo movie will be successful, Disney can finally remember that boy protagonists also fit in their fairytale formula and will hopefully adapt more boy Centred tales ala Hercules or Aladdin.
PatchofBlue wrote: โ†‘Sat Mar 16, 2024 7:05 pm I kinda felt like Camillo was the most underused family member in the entire film. I'm pretty sure Camillo and Mirabel's only interaction was that one time when he was disguised as Dolores. He didn't get any kind of family therapy session with Mirabel and played very little part in her mission to save the family miracle. So I'd be happy to see him explored more in future Encanto franchising since I think there's a lot there that they haven't tapped into.
fully agree! :) And dang! I forgot this was their only interaction

Encanto is getting a prequel/spin-off in book form.

Image
Return to Casita where we find seventeen-year-old Bruno from Disney's hit animated film Encanto, where readers will finally learn what happened to make people never want to talk about him.

Seventeen-year-old Bruno has never really fit in with his familyโ€”why canโ€™t he be as outgoing as his sister Pepa, or as friendly as his sister Julieta? Does he like being the awkward loaner who never seems to find where he can fit in? But itโ€™s hard to be popular when you have the power to tell the future and people donโ€™t always like what you are telling them. So Bruno devises an act, and begins to model the behavior he feels the town wants to see in a hero. But is being dishonest to himself and others the right path to walk down in order to make friends, or is Bruno just kidding himself as he hides from his own destiny that threatens to destroy all he holds dear?

Q: What would be the future of Encanto? A sequel film? A Disney+ series? When will we see these characters back?

Jared Bush: Encanto is a film that is kept inside my heart. And all the characters in the Madrigal family that I love. I will say, without giving away too much, that I would love to spend more time at Casa Madrigal and return to Encanto. I hope that one day it will be possible.

[Jared Bush] said that an early version of โ€œEncantoโ€ had a โ€œvastly different art style.โ€ But then he started to think: How does Mirabel fit with everyone else thatโ€™s come before in a Disney musical? Is it going to feel weird? Is that going to ostracize people or turn people off? Ultimately, they opted for a more traditional art style.

A slightly more traditional artstyle? Aww๐Ÿฅน...its Literally the same generic artstyle from their previous 10 movies. Its dumb when they always excuse it by saying that they HAVE to keep that "signature Disney art style" when movies like Hercules, Atlantis, Sleeping Beauty or Lilo and Stitch exist. Disney characters always changed and looked different throughout the decades until the 80s WDAS movies arrived and Mermaid officially put the stamp on the "big eyed protagonist" which defined the disney look to this day, ans STILL they experimented with the visuals in the 90s/00s. They have every opportunity to explore, branch out and push animation but they simply just dont want to.
Knowing how they just copy with whats trending these days, im happy theyre gonna do a painterly 3d artstyle ala Arcane in the future someday. (Always mourning how they could have been first with it and how R.U could have pushed animation forward).

I often wonder whether at WDAS they kick themselves for not being the first to usher in stylised CG with Tangled. As far as we can tell, they had completed the work - it was just never used because somebody chickened out.

I also find it inredible that years after Spider-Verse, both WDAS and Pixar are still animating in a photorealistic style (barring Wish, which was a polarising exception). They should be the ones setting standards, not following others ... ten years too late.)

(Of course, there is very little opportunity to experiment with upcoming projects, because sequels demand visual consistency with the original films!)

I recently watched this with my brother and his family, they got a new dog named Bruno so my brother wanted to rewatch it. It made me wonder why Disney hasn't done anything with this movie yet. I guess they'll release a sequel at some point, but I was sure they'd make some shorts on Disney+ or a Disney Channel series. The only thing they've released since the original movie was the concert with the cast and that was three years ago.

If Encanto had come out during my childhood, it would have been prime material for a Disney Channel series. I wonder if the lack of ancillary media has to do with a shift in Disneyโ€™s streaming strategy? It just seems like they are making less and less content for Disney+.

They are building an Encanto ride for Disneyโ€™s Animal Kingdom.

I always thought that WDAS and Pixar making long form animated TV series was a mistake, but making shorts for Disney+ seemed logical to me, even something like Zootopia+ and Cars on the Road. And while I understand why they're not making more content for Disney+, I don't understand why it's a 180ยฐ from what they used to do. It should have been more balanced. Even the Frozen proshot got only one trailer when 5 years ago they would have spam social media with marketing this, I mean it's still Frozen. And it doesn't even have the Disney intro like Hamilton does.

I don't think we're that far off from seeing something--maybe in the way of a Broadway show. I agree we would have seen something on Disney+, even like a holiday special, if they weren't presently reconsidering what they're supposed to do with this thing.

The Disney World attraction had somehow escaped my notice, but then I see it was only announced a month ago.

You know, since Encanto was a minor hit, it`s remarkable how Disney haven`t greenlit a sequel or made animated shorts, since it was a success. But what strikes me with Encanto is how it`s essentially The Emperor`s New Groove of this generation. For not only having a Latin-American setting, but for being a comedy that became a critical hit and who gained it`s fanbase and therefore gaining a better reputation.
