The Dark Crystal (Jim Henson)
The Dark Crystal (Jim Henson)
It's an underappreciated 1982 fantasy epic from Jim Henson and Frank Oz that was one of my fave movies as a kid next to "Last Unicorn", " Secret of NIMH", " Batman", " Indiana Jones movies", " Roger Rabbit", and " Ghostbusters".
It's set in another world where two races are divine- The good wizardary Mystics and the evil Skeckis who rule the castle of the Dark Crystal- an all powerful universal source that has power over the world and the galaxy, it was cracked along ago with a single piece missing. An elf-like being named Jen must find the missing shard of the crystal, return it to the crystal of the castle then save the world.
It's a unique, one-of-a-kind gem you won't forget and it's music score is also awesome, don't miss this movie.

I love the dark cyrstal aswell, on eof my childhood greats.
Kira was my favourite, but I remember being scared and sad in a few places.
Plus here's some news for us fans....
The Jim Henson Company is planning to make a sequel to its 1982 fantasy classic The Dark Crystal, reports Variety.
Titled The Power of the Dark Crystal, the new movie is written by David Odell (The Dark Crystal, The Muppet Show) and Annette Duffy. No director is yet attached to the film which starts shooting this fall for a 2007 release. It will combine live-action animatronic characters with CG animation.
The story is set many years after the original, which was helmed by Frank Oz and Jim Henson. Original heroes Jen and Kira are now king and queen, and must fight to save their kingdom when the crystal is once again split.
The company is also developing an animated series, interactive games and other media as well

I have a shirt that says on the front, "Of course you can't fly, you're a boy" and the back is painted with purple glittery wings.
Fizgig must have been the worlds meanest pomeranian
And the Skezgees (sp?) were some of the best puppetry I had ever seen.
But I think my favorite creatures were those bunnies on stilts. As a kid I wanted one of those. I have the Art of the Dark Crystal book too.
