Luca was far from amazing to me. It was beautiful visually but then it started as a Little Mermaid rehash and then a story that would have been interesting if it was about a gay teenage boy who loses his crush to a girl cause his crush is straight but the kids were far too young for that so it didn't make sense. It is not considered a Pixar classic.

Re: Pixar's Gatto
many people online already hate Gatto and call it a cheap ripoff of Flow (still havent seen the movie!!!! Like when is Netflix finally streaming it!!!
) But i dont think thats the case as Flow just gained global recognition less than a year ago and Gatto must have been in development atleast since early 2022, its just a Coincidence and they literally just share a cat that is black...

Re: Pixar's Gatto
I wouldn't say it was amazing, but Luca was more interesting than I usually find PIXAR films. Not as good as Turning Red though. Gatto looks like the first one so far since those two that might be good, too. I admit, the commercials for Elio made me a little more curious to see it, but I never could get high anticipation for that film. It looks like it has a similar problem to both Wish and Elemental, at least going by reviews... At least I remember thinking both those films felt as if someone higher-up must've told both studios to simplify, dumb things down more because they both felt much less refined than you usually expect from either studio, tbh. I still do like Wish myself though even if it's very unremarkable, I just know it could've been a great film (or at least much better) considering the pieces they had there. Anyway, the reviews for Elio seem to mention a lot how childish it is compared to other PIXAR films, so I expect it's a continuation of this trend.Disney Duster wrote: โWed Jun 18, 2025 10:35 pm Luca was far from amazing to me. I think it's undoubtedly an executive--maybe Iger?--who reached into both studios and told them to do that. I mean, nobody wants a family animated film to be too complex, of cpirse. Maybe that's what they landed on as their problem, that pethaps Raya, Strange World, and Lightyear went too far awry in that direction what with Raya having all the different countries / mythology, Lightyear being so dire and serious with the timeline confusion, and Strange World with the weird living organism stuff. But both studios' output has never been "childish" like Wish, Elemental, and now Elio. You look at the '90s and '10s for WDAS, none of those films were childish aside from WIR (and even it has dramatic moments). And PIXAR's whole brand was being "serious" despite the family film veneer. They need to focus on a middle ground because they went way too far the other way.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"

Yeah, Disney and Pixar never used to be childish. I don't find Wish childish, just meh, and not done right. I really do not like Turning Red myself, though.

Re: Pixar's Gatto
I feel skeptical if this movie will actually be making it to the finish line in 2027. Especially if their new IP keep losing them money. The worrying sign would be a delay 1 year or 2 from it's release. I sure hope Casarosa sticks to his vision.
