Emma was a great mistake in this movie. She removed everything that people wanted to see about Belle. The corset thing was a mess too. Wearing a corset was not a bad thing. It was a common underwear and it makes gown look better. Even Halle wore one in TLM.Disney Duster wrote: โMon Feb 03, 2025 3:28 am I messed up what I meant to say again! You may be right, maybe they wanted a wedding, and wedding dress, in the end, and Emma said no, so they just pretended it wasn't.

Chris Sanders talks about the remake.
Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B98c2ZkWT9YChris Sanders wrote:While I was watching the Little Mermaid remake, I saw it twice, something crystallized in my head. I think one of the challenges of bringing an animated film to live action is the budget. The "Under the Sea" sequence in the original Little Mermaid was a lavish, colorful, sumptuous sequence that had a lot of characters and fun. When I watched the live action one, I was aware they hit a limitation. They couldn't build enough unique characters and they couldn't populate the screen like we did. In our version, the screen was full of color and characters that were crossing and stuff like that. In the remake, they made a lot of jellyfish and a lot of brittle stars and they made a lot of sea turtles but the general population of that sequence was really low and so it didn't have that explosion of energy that the animated one did. So, they were really limited, frankly, by their budget.
Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
He's right. The same thing can be said about the Be Our Guest sequence in the live-action Beauty and the Beast.

While the movie is a boring slog like pretty much all the remakes are...I thought the live-action "Be Our Guest" was a masterpiece of a scene.

Emma Watson looks completely bored during that scene and I don't blame her.Disney Duster wrote: โTue Apr 22, 2025 11:26 am While the movie is a boring slog like pretty much all the remakes are...I thought the live-action "Be Our Guest" was a masterpiece of a scene.

Hm ... I guess I disagree with him on this one. "Under the Sea" was perhaps the highlight of the movie for me. They couldn't really play in the same sandbox for some of the reasons he listed, but I think it worked really well in this new context.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Again agree with Sanders. Under the Sea is this whole idea of convincing Ariel that the Sea is basically Paradise and the colorful funky visuals just compliment the lyrics extremely well. In the remake its far from this vibrant theatrical experience that its clearly understandable why she wants to leave.
Literally same Problem with Mulan here. Ariels want to enter the human world was a risk in the original, she had to leave her family and her great home behind, here she leaves because of Eric AND because the sea has so many limitations. Another win win situation
Would love to see Sanders trash more of those cheapmakes but im really interested in what he says about 2015 Cinderella as its almost flawless

Be our guest in the live action was a complete disaster. At least Under the sea in the LA looks colorful and fun. I have to watch it again because I don't remember all the creatures that appear on it but I remember much diversity. In my opinion this scene is not one of the problems in the movie.

Wow I wonder if I really am in the minority everywhere that I think live-action Be Our Guest was amazing. I still stand by it, though. I thought live-action Under the Sea was pretty good, too.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
I think Be Our Guest was a good sequence, but it was definitely inferior to the animated one. Same with Under the Sea.

I liked LA Be Our Guest also. I'd agree that Emma Watson doesn't really add to the experience, but Belle isn't really the focus of the scene, so the fact that she's kind of a blank slate here doesn't take away too much from what is a stunning visual sequence.Disney Duster wrote: โWed Apr 23, 2025 10:46 pm Wow I wonder if I really am in the minority everywhere that I think live-action Be Our Guest was amazing. Yay! Ok so, Vlad, I agree LA Under the Sea < original, but I have not watched the original BatB in an while to confirm if LA Be Our Guest < original. I know the original is more colorful, but...I'd have to watch both again around the same time.
Thumper, ok, I gotcha, and PatchofBlue, thank God you said that, I so agree!

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
I didn't like LA "Be Our Guest" mostly because of the sequence being lackluster. LA "Under the Sea" was okay, but naturally not as good as the original. I think Sanders is being kind, tbh...
I don't really find any of the remakes to be boring or a slog aside from the Dalmatians remake from the '90s. The best of them feel fine with occasional moments where they're great and occasional moments when they're terrible, while the worse remakes feel mostly like off-the-rails trainwrecks. Well, some like Dumbo or Christopher Robin feel like they're too sparse to be theatrical films...

Halle Bailey Granted Restraining Order Against DDG Over Claims He Abused Her Multiple Times

https://www.billboard.com/pro/halle-bai ... se-claims/
Halle Bailey has been granted a restraining order against DDG, her ex-boyfriend and the father of her 1-year-old son, Billboard can confirm.
TMZ was first to report Tuesday (May 13) that the 25-year-old singer/actress had filed a police report against the 27-year-old streamer and rapper and requested court-ordered protection, claiming he had attacked her multiple times.
In court documents obtained by Billboard, Bailey alleged โthings got physicalโ starting in January, when DDG (real name Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr.) came over to pick up their then-13-month-old son Halo and she initiated a conversation about scheduling his visits.
Bailey claims that as she was buckling Halo into his car seat in the back of Granberryโs car, he yelled, โGet out of my car, biโ.โ At that point, she alleges, Halo started crying, making her nervous to leave the baby with him in his agitated state. When she stayed in the car, she alleges that Granberry pulled her hair, slammed her face on the steering wheel and chipped her tooth. After they arrived at Granberryโs familyโs house, Bailey says she told his family what happened and left the baby with them.
Bailey attached photos of her alleged injuries, including her chipped tooth, to the restraining order request.
In the docs, Bailey went on to detail two more alleged incidents of abuse: one in March, which she says she filed a police report over, and one this past weekend, when she says Granberry accused her of vacationing with Brent Faiyaz in a series of texts while she was on a Motherโs Day trip with their son and her mother.
Granberry announced the couple had split in October 2024, ending their two-year relationship.
โThis decision was not easy, but we believe itโs the best path forward for both of us. I cherish the time weโve spent together and the love weโve shared,โ he wrote on his Instagram Story at the time. The following month, Bailey shared in a since-deleted X post that she felt โextremely upsetโ when Granberry brought Halo with him during an โunapprovedโ appearance on Kai Cenatโs live stream. She later backpedaled, writing, โmaybe i did overreactโฆ. i know that halo is always safe with his dad. i just donโt like finding out with the rest of the world what my baby is doing.โ
Shortly after those tweets, Granberry came to Baileyโs defense in a YouTube video in which he implored negative commenters to leave her alone, citing her transparency over her struggles with postpartum depression. โWhen situations like this happen, I try to handle it with as much grace as possible because Halo needs her. I need her,โ he said at the time. โWe need each other to try to create a childhood thatโs safe, fun and memorable for him.โ But in March, Granberry aired his grievances over their custody issues in a song titled โDonโt Take My Son.โ
In the restraining order request, Bailey also requested permission to take Halo with her while she travels to Italy to film a movie, where she will have family and a traveling nanny to help care for him. She also asked the judge for a cease-and-desist order to prevent Granberry from โposting and/or streaming on any and all platforms about Halo and/or me. He is a YouTube and Twitch Blogger and creates a fan frenzy by making false claims about me. This has caused me to feel afraid and victimized. His fans then threaten me. I am often scared for my life and Haloโs safety.โ
A hearing has been set for June 4 over whether a more permanent restraining order should be put in place.
Representatives for Bailey and Granberry did not immediately respond to Billboardโs requests for comment.

Poor Halle... I never liked that guy. He looks aggressive so I'm not surprised about the news. I only hope that she has protection for herself and for the baby.
