These are the casting/plot details according to this Elle article:

... They are looking to fill the role of Harper, Anna’s 14-year-old daughter, who is described as “a teen surfer with California vibes with a sharp sense of humor. Harper is in a bit of mood these days because her longtime single mom is set to marry British restaurateur Eric Davies.”

They also added that Harper “would like to see things go her way and use her intelligence to stop this marriage from ever happening,”

According to the audition description, and eight pages of script that were included, Eric also has a 14-year-old daughter, Lily, who does not get along with Harper.

In the planned plot for Freaky Friday 2, Anna and Tess do switch bodies, but not with each other, like in the original film. In the sequel, which is set to take place 20 years later, they each swap places with two teenage girls. You guessed it: Harper and Lily. Per EW, “Harper should channel ‘Anna’ (Lindsay Lohan) and Lily should channel ‘Tess’ (Jamie Lee Curtis).”

In the audition packet, there was reportedly a scene where Harper and Lily, who are really Anna and Tess in the teen girls’ bodies, are sitting together in the kitchen and reminiscing on their youth while drinking apple juice out of wine glasses. In another scene, Harper and Lily (actually Anna and Tess) are cleaning up the beach as a punishment for detention, when Tess opens up about her feelings towards Anna moving to London with her future husband.

That sounds like a horrible premise. It doesn't feel like Freaky Friday at all. My God, Disney can't even pull off the simplest, easiest type of movie, anymore.

So its the same basic storyline all over again... Teen girl wants to stop marriage of mom and boyfriend...why are Anna and her mom forced to learn the same lesson over again ??? Meh

I mean, to be fair, you can only go so far with this premise. It's not really plot-focused but rather performance-focused, and the fun is in seeing the actresses act the opposite of their characters' personalities and ages. However, one other way they could have played with the premise is by including gender into the mix and have one of the involved body-swapping parties be a man.

I just watched the trailer. They are serving exactly what I would expect them to serve with this. I hope it makes a tidy sum and the mid-budget movie makes a big return to the Disney studios (preferably with more original films, and PD3 starring Julie Andrews, of course!).

I admit, seeing Lindsay with that electric guitar did release some nostalgia-fueled endorphins in my aged, Millennial brain.

I forgot to mention: we saw the trailer for this in front of Elio and even though I had been pretty resolved to just wait for this one on Disney+, something about seeing that trailer on the big screen and hearing my mom and sister’s reactions changed my mind. I want to catch it in theaters now.
