Tangled (Live-Action)
Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
It's an interesting point of view, but I still think there could have been more subtle ways to handle it, like in Enchanted.
I understand that audience has changed since the 20th century and people lost their ability to look at the symbolism in fairytales and not take them literally, so I get that they needed to adjust it to appeal to them and then take everything that worked in previous films and mash it together, so I feel the movie ended up derivative of previous works. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a bad film, I still enjoy it but it could have been much more than it ended up being and not so vanilla.

I understand, it's not going to hit right for everyone, and that's totally valid. To me it personally more reads as a tribute than being derivate, but I acknowledge that's a fine line to walk.

Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
Indina would be a great choice, Mother Gothel is a antisemitic/antiroma trope from medieval Europe (stealing White blonde babies to get their youth and make magic) and having a Jewish actress can make them correct that offensive trope but without erasing the ethnic representationThumper_93 wrote: โThu Jan 23, 2025 12:14 pm They should stop making this film but knowin them it won't happen. So I'm with you Indina would be great for the rol.
Gothel can be a evil person and at the same time the movie portray jewish traditions into Rapunzel in a positive light

Sigh. Mother Gothel is not antisemitic or antiroma. You have no proof. Let it go.

Deliberately writing Idina's name wrong leans closer to being "anti-Semitic" than anything in Tangled.

other than Aladdin this is probably the disney live action where it's the most important to cast the male lead right

That's not necessary.

And I hope nobody else will be intimidated out of posting because of them either.

Source: https://thedisinsider.com/2025/02/06/th ... -possible/Q: Do you think Tangled will begin shooting this year?
Skyler Shuler: There are production listings that state production will begin later this year. However, given the current status, it is unlikely that filming will commence in 2025. Typically, such large-scale productions require extensive pre-production phases, including finalizing the script, casting, and securing filming locations, which can take several months.

Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
They are making a mistake. Tangled is already a modern film, they don't need to add annoying changes. Just remain faithful and add more Alan Menken songs.
Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
I'm actually happy they're deciding to put it on hold. But I suspect they'll resume when they see how well Lilo & Stitch will do in May. And maybe next year's Moana will do great, too.

Source: https://deadline.com/2025/04/disney-pus ... 236358821/The live-action project was in pre-production stages as it had begun setting meetings with potential talent to star. But after its Snow White pic has disappointed at the box office since its March 21 premiere, the studio is reevaluating the strategy for other live-action adaptations in development.
Disney always learns the wrong lessons from their failures. Are they back to putting the blame on princess films or musicals or both?

I said that this was going to happen. LA are not going to die because of Lilo and Stitch but I'm sure that they are going to make less movies and to avoid as much polemics as they can.blackcauldron85 wrote: โThu Apr 03, 2025 2:10 pm Disney Halts โTangledโ Live-Action Remake in Wake of โSnow Whiteโ Bust

Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
If they aren't remaking Tangled there's no way they're remaking Hercules, The Aristocats, Bambi or Robin Hood. They might change their minds after Lilo & Stitch and Moana.

Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
Exactly, its the Princess and the Frog situation all over again. Dont worry they will be back on track with Princess takeovers once Frozen 3 becomes an undeniable Box office phenomenon. However i think they will move forward with it anyway when Stitch becomes a hit, it has (unfortunatly) good chances as it looks extremely faithful to the original.Sotiris wrote: โThu Apr 03, 2025 5:17 pm Disney always learns the wrong lessons from their failures. Snow White flopped and the Tangled remake got cancelled. Interestingly, both Menken projects.

Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
I'm not worried about this getting made since L&S will probably do very well as a faithful remake without all the racebend and song cut--possible Dwarfs cut--baggage of the Snow White remake. You could tell they were trying their best to repair the damage of the initial talk around SW cutting the Dwarfs, songs, and changing everything by making the designs look so faithful, re-creating iconic shots, etc. I didn't think it was really possible to undo the early damage because first impressions are hard to fix, but it was interesting to watch the attempt. A shame it didn't work, since I liked the finished product. Like TLM, SW probably ended up being better because of the backlash. They worked harder on the films in an attempt to combat the controversy, imo; they would've been so much worse otherwise.
With L&S, it's even more obvious how they've locked firmly back into the faithful approach with the remakes. I mean the trailer had so many scenes that felt like straight re-creation close to TLK-level--always better to err on the side of being too faithful than the other path... Hopefully its success will make sure they got the lesson completely before approaching this film or Hercules. I don't see this being in billion-potential territory and Hercules definitely isn't. With both of those, they can't afford risks at all the way they thought the risk was safe with a big property like TLM (and found out the hard way). I'm not sure where I could see a Tangled remake landing box office-wise in its best case scenario--probably somewhere between Cinderella/TLM and Maleficent. So another situation like SW where the budget needs to be within reason...
Thankfully Tangled isn't the kind of film that's going to require a lot of money to make, I would think? Almost the whole film is in the woods and one room (the tower). And the outfits in the original were never anything nice to look at to begin with, not like they need to worry about spending a great amount of money re-creating those... The "I See the Light" scene is the only thing they need to go all out with. Get Sabrina Carpenter and Cher for Rapunzel and Gothel, title the film Rapunzel to help recognition of what the film is, and I could see it being a moderate hit. If they're going to keep trying to cast people who look nothing like the characters they're playing, they'll keep getting flops. Tangled probably wouldn't flop as bad as SW since it's a more recent property--it would land somewhere between it and TLM, I imagine. Carpenter and Cher would be perfect as Rapunzel and Gothel, what with them looking the parts, being able to act and sing--and being big names to help draw people in--but I can't think right off who would be a good Flynn. Probably a lot of choices, but nobody jumping immediately to mind.

Imo if they get right the casting of Rapunzel and Eugene, and obviously while being faithful to the rest of the movie, this could be successful and get 1B+. After all we have a princess, a love story, a popular male lead... And the movie is pretty popular in Europe and East Asia afaik
I'm curious if they could have ever managed to adapt the canyon scene with the whole Rapunzel's hair CGI lol. I just can't imagine a scene like that in a live action. I remember even thinking when first seeing it that a scene like that is only possible in animation and would look too ridiculous in a movie

Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
I'm sure that in a LA she would wear her hair in a braid like the one that she wears in the village scenes. It's more cheap and more easy to make. They would make it loose in the scenes that take place inside the tower but outside there's no need to let it loose. In real life it would get dirty as soon as she touches the grassLele wrote: โTue Apr 29, 2025 2:48 pm Imo if they get right the casting of Rapunzel and Eugene, and obviously while being faithful to the rest of the movie, this could be successful and get 1B+.
