Wow, Lavendergolden, I did not know other countries were so different than America regarding race, at least the free countries.

They also wanted to make the original Ariel a red-head to symbolize her headstrong, rebellious, fiery nature. Glen Keane said something like the way Ariel's personality is, "that is not a blonde!" lol I feel Halle looked red-headed underwater, though. Just how I saw it.

My favorite remake is Cinderella. I think it is meh like all the rest, but I also think it is the closest to being truly good. I think it is the best one. My second favorite is Beauty and the Beast, mostly because I love every single design except for Belle's yellow dress which was a real shame. It could have been worse, really, but it's really not good either.

What do you mean by free countries?

Yes, I agree with Glen Keane. One of my teachers mentioned how in the Mermaid fairy tale, there's a mention of bright red flowers under the water in the mermaid's garden and she thinks Ariel's hair color was also inspired by that. I don't know but it suits her. Also Ariel is named after the Aries sign which is fire-themed so it makes sense her hair is like fire. Which is completely missing in the remake. Honestly I thought her hair looked like dried mud, especially the color. A very dirty blonde that was so unappealing to look at. But the whole movie looked awful like these remakes usually look so cheap and garish.

I think Cinderella is the most beautiful remake too. The only one that will be seen as a classic with an absolute beautiful production design for costumes and the palace. The music is beloved as well. For Beast, I think Belle's yellow dress is like someone took scraps of cloth and made what they could out of those scraps. Not fit for a princess and it doesn't have the shining gleaming material that the animated dress is made of. I don't know how it could be much worse lol other than a garbage bag! But I read that Emma Watson designed the dress with the help of Dan Stevens' daughter so this just proves to me that both lead actors were miscast and should not interfere with the production. I guess Disney felt that if the daughter helped make it, it had the stamp of approval from little girls.

Oh, by free countries I meant countries where people don't have a government that is suppressing.

I like the flower and Aries things about Ariel's hair.

I agree on Cinderella 2015's visuals and I also love the golden pumpkin coach. Yeah, that seems about right for Emma's dress, I had read about the little girl designing the dress, too, I was unsure how her much that little girl really influenced the design. I did not know it was Dan's daughter, though. You sure?

I don't mean to be critical but your comment about free governments can come across as a little offensive and patronizing to some although I know you do not mean offense. So I am not personally offended but I want to explain a little why others might be offended. Western countries are not inherently more free or better than non-western countries. This remark reminds me of President Trump's reference to sh*thole countries when he talked about Africa. It seems like you are American based on what your profile says but please correct me if I'm wrong. America is the most propagandized country in the world. You are lead to believe that China and Russia are your enemies but America is the most insidious in its propaganda because it tries to spread it all over the world and destroys governments and actual free peoples if they don't comply. It's not just America but also the UK and Canada. My British friend quoted a British actress saying that you cannot be British and feel pride in this world because the British government is responsible for so many atrocities in this world, especially towards the Irish. So I'm not trying to school you but I ask you be more mindful in how you talk about other countries because frankly, America is one of the worst of them and a bastion of western hypocrisy. This is why I am rooting for BRICS which is probably going to be leading the world. You can argue if they are free or not but they make no pretenses unlike America. And Rick Riordan said Brazil will be the next major western power so I approve of this while China leads the east as is classically correct as China was always the Middle Kingdom for a reason. Everything America accuses Russia and China of doing, suppressing the people, is what America, UK, and Canada does on a daily basis. President Trump will either continue this, make it worse, or reverse course. I don't know because he talks a big talk but is influenced by higher powers which means things will likely never change.

I have studied horoscopes and astrology, especially because it is central to religions of the east even today, so I always like when it matches up with the princesses like Ariel.

Yes, the golden pumpkin coach is beautiful and like nothing I have ever seen. Was it just me or did you also want to take a ride in it? I feel a real Disney World (one where the magic is not automatons but actual magic) would have these golden pumpkin coaches pick up passengers and drive them straight to the real Disney which exists in Walt Disney's heart and in the land where he lives now.

Yes, Emma worked with Dan Stevens' daughter, Willow, on the dress design.
https://www.stylist.co.uk/people/emma-w ... he%20Beast.
“Emma Watson came over to our house for dinner,” the former Downton Abbey star explained, “and we were talking about the design of the [iconic yellow] dress. Willow overheard the conversation and came back 30 minutes later, pen and paper [in hand], with five different dress designs.

“She sat down with Emma, talked her through these dress designs, [and] they picked one.”

Stevens went on to clarify that Watson hadn’t just been humouring his daughter; in fact, she took Willow’s opinions very seriously, and made sure to talk them over with the costume department.

“A few weeks later, Willow comes on set to see the ballroom scene,” smiled Stevens. “Emma is in the dress and Willow just looked at me and went, ‘yep, that’s the one!’

I admire Emma Watson, because even though I do not think she is beautiful on the outside, she is beautiful on the inside and very good with children. I also admire that unlike her other HP co-stars, she has no children of her own, because our global population is already too big and we need less children and generations populating it.

Not sure what it has to do with the thread, but Anerica (and Canada, and Britain) are not as--much less more--propaganda-driven than dictatorships like Russia and China. The former aren't morally equivalent to the latter at all. Duster's statement isn't even vaguely offensive. And it's completely unbelievable that 'your friend' was called a mutt or hybrid, that is nor normal commentary in America at all.

I think Emma Watson is also physically beautiful on top of being a nice person. I still like the dress even though it's certainly something that is very controlled shot-for-shot, not something that would look right on its own outside the film if somebody wore it as a costume.

Also, I'm extremely skeptical Ariel was named for the Aries sign....

Thank you so much, Divinity.

I do like the pumpkin coach idea, Lavendergolden and thanks for the article, but we seriously disagree on America and yes I am American.

I'm not going to respond but imagine having the gall to tell my biracial friend that her experience didn't happen to her. That she has not been racially profiled and offended because apparently systemic racism doesn't exist in America and everything is a-okay. Tell me you are white without really telling me. I already know from users who warned me so I wouldn't even have to guess but the post content makes it obvious along with the blatant disregard to hear anything that threatens their hegemonic power in America. Of course America is the best for such people because you sit at the top as white males. Not even on my worst day would I want to be a man. We women have always endured through way worse and aren't half as bitchy as men are on their best days.

I can't argue with propaganda-ridden Americans anymore. It's not the point of this thread anyway. I was only sharing stories and then confused by a comment that frankly came across as tone-deaf and offensive and is now being doubled down on. Duster, I'm very ashamed that you are sticking to your original comment which comes across as so ethnocentric and blatantly racist that all non-American or western countries are full of subjugated people to you. I hope you realize people in those countries, and I don't just mean Russia or China, feel the exact same way about you Americans. I saw Chinese Twitter has become popular with Americans now, to avoid Elon Musk's Twitter, and many Americans were posting the Chinese sentiments on how propagandized American culture is. If I ever find that tweet again, I will post it here because at least then people will realize that on the other side of the world, you all are similarly looked down upon as mindless stooges of your government. No country in this world is better than the other. All are comprised of human beings and someone being born in America does not make that someone superior to someone born in Ethiopia or Ghana or Honduras or Ireland or Thailand.

Funny how all your posts attack any film or merch or so on that might even vaguely feature some form of diversity or other (as if any film with a diverse cast is exactly the same as any other film with a diverse cast), and then your response is to try to use your race (as if anyone believes you are the race you claim when it's convenient for the sake of argument) as a shield for your blatant hatred and racism.
The truth is it really wouldn't matter what race you are. Not being White wouldn't give you a pass for racist rhetoric. Just you thinking it does says everything that needs to be said.

Lol have you even read my posts? When did I mention my race? When did I say I'm non-white. I am very much white. I've mentioned my culture and heritage being offended by the racial recastings of LA Snow White and The Frog Prince many times. Users who genuinely were interested in getting to know me have asked me what country I'm from, what I identify as, etc. I have no secrets from friendly people I wanted to know and who wanted to know me. Now you're creating some false narrative that I'm really non-white or pretending to be non-white because that's the only thing that fits your very narrow minded American view that everyone who doesn't like America must not be white. How racist is that, although it doesn't surprise me anymore. You do realize that white people don't only exist in America? We exist across the globe and have other countries besides America. In fact, America is a baby country that only exists as an offshoot of the original mother countries so please take this inferiority complex elsewhere. Entitled Americans are one thing I have no patience for, especially from all the content I am encountering here. Maybe I'm just used to places where there's a more steady international mix. I don't think it's a surprise that all the users I've befriended here are Spanish or have admitted to being non-American. Everyone who I view as a kindred spirit because the Latinos, Europeans, Asians, etc. all do not like having American woke culture forced on them. We do not have complexes about the fact that we live in a 200-year old country with no culture, no history, no traditions except what was stolen or pillaged from other people. We are proud of our cultures and heritages and do not like seeing them made fun of by Disney or American Disney fans.

Uh, at no point did I say you hate America because you're non-White, what are you talking about?

I am proud to be an American, and I am sorry if I offended anyone, but with what I know about the oppression in other countries, I know other countries could be more free.
