In Spain Asha's dolls are starting to appear in outlet stores. Even dolls that didn't arrive to toy stores like the one that comes with surprise stuff. Dahlia is also on sale in all the toy stores and it seems that they are going to have problems to get rid of them.Sotiris wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 2:06 am

I still haven’t seen this stinker and probably never will. I have the DVD but have zero interest to even open the wrapper.
On the other hand, my boyfriend and I attended a 75th Anniversary showing of Walt Disney’s Cinderella.... and it was glorious!

Re: Wish
Why would they expect a flop? That would be horrible for a company, to make a movie and while making it not having any type of confidence
Anyways even if the movie was bad (it was) it could have made money, but it didn't, Frozen 2 and Moana 2 both had bad/meh cinemascore and reviews equal to Wish and those still made 1.4b and 1b (obviously being sequels to successful movies)
So I guess Disney was expecting the movie to make 600M like Moana 1, instead I think it made like 250M WW (I'm not sure)
Re: Wish
Every new film receives merchandise (except Strange World), but it seems that they went overboard with the merchandise for Wish as if they expected it to be the next Frozen or somethingPokenonbinary wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 5:11 amWhy would they expect a flop? I have a great big plush of Star I got for 60% off that I love. I hope they keep using Star, I think that character could have Tinker Bell/Jiminy Cricket status if they keep using it.

It was their 100th aniversario Disney Princess musical movie, of course they expected it to be massive, it wasn't but the movie was created to be a hitFarerb wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 5:39 amEvery new film receives merchandise (except Strange World), but it seems that they went overboard with the merchandise for Wish as if they expected it to be the next Frozen or somethingPokenonbinary wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 5:11 am

The movie was awful and didn't had any positive quality in the end, I don't like any of the songs
Correction: I like 'At All Costs' but it was clearly a romantic ballad in a weird moment since the final version of the movie didn't had any romance

Re: Wish
I don't think they expected anything with Strange World... So much of that film felt like it was built in response to Chapek's controversies and they didn't expect success (I still think it's weird they modeled it so much after Atlantis and TP, like they were actively wanting it to flop), but they were probably hoping Wish would be the first original film since the pandemic to go back to pre-pandemic levels at the box office to some degree.
I expected it to do more than it did, but I think being the film that followed Strange World impacted it more than I expected. The film in the end is sort of bland, but so are a lot of successful films they've had like Moana.
But Moana in comparison followed a huge hit, whereas Wish came after a flop. The film has plenty of positive qualities, the only films that do nothing for me are Chicken Little and a couple of the package films. I like a few of the songs even if the music has a very dated quality, Star was adorable, and Magnifico was the best villain since Hans and one I could see end up in villains merchandise thanks to his great design. And the consensus of reviews agreed the film was very pretty, so...
I agree that Star has potential to show up in different places the way that Tinker Bell does. He and Magnifico could end up sort of like Merlin and Mim fom TSitS, who show up at the parks and various Disney things even though TSitS has never been big.

Re: Wish
I bought it as I’m a completist with all the Disney and Pixar animated films and the live action films through the 1970s.
The latest Disney live action I own is The Black Hole. Nothing live action past that interested me enough to own the DVD.

I was a bit surprised since I didn't think you'd seen much less bought anything after TSitS/The Aristocats (the last films Walt was at least vaguely part of).

No, although the Walt era is my favorite, I remained a big Disney fan through the ‘90s. After 2000, I began to lose interest and haven’t seen much over the last 25 years. I continue to purchase the DVDs, although I’ve never seen most of the post 2000 films.

Well how would you know that it’s actually a “stinker” if you haven’t actually seen it? After all, consider the first Hocus Pocus Which also Bombed heavily whenever it came out, So who is to say this word eventually happen to Wish?carolinakid wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 4:42 am I still haven’t seen this stinker and probably never will. Re: Wish
I think I said this to you before but you're not missing out on much for skipping out on the 2000s Disney movies or anything past the 90s. Personally I don't understand being a completist for products you're never going to watch or even like though. I wouldn't want to own movies that I find to be an insult to Disney or my own tastes and a film like Wish isn't even worth getting for free lol.carolinakid wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 8:33 am I bought it as I’m a completist with all the Disney and Pixar animated films and the live action films through the 1970s.

For live-action films, I know your faith is important to you so I would recommend the Narnia movies. Especially if you've ever read the books. You would enjoy those, especially the first one, being a Christian and they're quite magical. They were luckily made before Disney's woke era so there's nothing obtrusive. Have you ever seen any of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies though? Or Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

I did see Roger Rabbit ( and own the DVD) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Isn’t it a hoot how Jessica can no longer be seen in her red gown, but she wears a trench coat throughout the Roger Rabbit attraction at Disneyland?
I was hoping to see all these movies when I retire but that’s probably a pipe dream. I could have watched some during the Wuhan virus lockdown, but instead I chose to read about a dozen books!
I haven’t had any interest in the Pirates films or any films based on park attractions.

Re: Wish
I think that Disney and Mattel were really stupid when they deceided about what dolls to make.
First of all Asha only wears one dress in the entire movie. Nobody is gpoing to buy you the same doll only because she includes 2 new accesories. She should have had a better transformation at the end with a beautiful gown to make more merchandise...
This set was the stupidest thing that they've ever done:

These animals are no important in the film. Nobody care about them because they don't have anything attractive like Sleeping Beauty's ones. The doll is the same as the basic one, they didn't even include the cape or sparkles into her gown.
Another stupid thing that they did is release dolls of Dahlia and Queen. Both characters doesn't have too much protagonism during the film to have their own doll. I know that Mattel released dolls of Nakoma and Charlotte but these characters were better and they were more attractive to kids and even collectors.
They also made the mistake to release surprise figurines of the 7 friends that nobody remember, funko POP and lots of products that nobody asked for.
Yes, they thought that it was going to be a huge success like Frozen and released as much things as they could like what they did with TLM LA. Now everything is on sale...

Re: Wish
I find it funny that Disney claims to be so progressive and wake in terms of racial politics but with their two recent black princesses (LA Ariel and Asha) they don't give them more than one dress. And Disney defenders who will burn down everything around them but never admit that Disney's racial recastings are awful decisions won't note this or call it out. That there is something more intrinsically racist about how Cinderella, Belle, Jasmine, etc. can get so many dress changes but LA Ariel has like one blue dress which is plain and super simple and then the pink variant at the end. Disney is basically saying black girls don't get to wear frilly ballgowns and can only wear plain peasant smocks. The shills will not even point out how the black princess gets less to wear because they are afraid of calling out Disney's remake as anyone who criticizes the remake is racist. In part because they are the ones who set the pattern that saying anything bad about the remake, like it isn't the best movie in the world, means you are a deplorable racist so now they've fallen in their own trap.
Same with Asha, just one dress and one cloak. Not even a magical transformation at the end with wings or a dress which would have been the most natural thing? Why is Disney so afraid of giving their black princesses pretty dresses? Even their first one was a frog for 80% of her movie. So Disney forces these black princesses onto the public that even they don't want to create or give proper attention to but they shame the public for not liking them. So hypocritical.
The amount of Wish merch made is so crazy considering not one character has a good design. Asha is basically that Encanto girl over again. Her friend inspired by Snow White looks like a frumpy middle-aged Asian lady. With glasses to boot because woke fans have been crying for years about wanting a princess with glasses so here's the next best thing. In what world would any little girl look at that Dahlia and say they want to dress up like her and buy all her merch like Dahlia is some breakout character? I can't even remember what the dwarf characters looked like beyond Dahlia and only Dahlia because her design is so ugly and marketed so much.
Disney needs to stop forcing these racial recastings. In the modern era, they have had 3 black princesses (Tiana, LA Ariel, Asha) and all 3 of them have failed with audiences and can't sell merch. Enough is enough. Stick to the Tangleds and Frozens because those sell merch. Moanas and Encantos sell less I think but are still solid enough to stick around.

Re: Wish
Jessica Rabbit is now considered too offensive. Which is entirely why she was drawn the way she was, to prove that outer exteriors don't reflect a person's true worth or personality but modern Disney has failed to realize that and fallen in the trap that Jessica is bad because she's drawn that way.carolinakid wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 2:28 am I did see Roger Rabbit ( and own the DVD) and thoroughly enjoyed it. You were better off reading books than watching these new Disney movies. They get worse and worse now. I hear stories of parents who feel ashamed of getting them as gifts for children. I have a friend who bought Little Mermaid merchandise for her daughter, not knowing it was the LA version, and she said her daughter was traumatized because she didn't recognize Ariel, Flounder, or Sebastian. They all looked so ugly and different.

Re: Wish
I agree, I wish the newer films had the outfit changes characteristic of previous "princess" films--none of Raya, Encanto, or Wish had them. I remember saying somewhere before that they've sucked some of the fun of the new films because they lack pieces of the pattern that you could compare between all the different films like the outfits, the princes, the villains, etc.
I don't think they expected Frozen-level success for Wish at all, but somewhere in the area between TP&TF and Moana. They try to make a lot of merch for any "princess" type film these days in the hope that, if the film succeeds, the brand might sell on its own for a while without being a part of the DP line straight away, the way Frozen, Moana, and Encanto sell merch separate from the line.
