Was kinda hoping your article would end with a question about if Moana 2’s success in making a billion after going from planned Disney+ series to theatrical movie means Tiana’s series would be next to become a movie for theaters in the future.

The lawsuit points to similarities between Moana and “Bucky.” One example: both celebrate a recurring theme of the Polynesian belief in spiritual ancestors manifested as animals. So its the Aladdin and Thief& the Cobbler situation all over again. Thats a tricky situation as one can argue if its specifically ripped off that thing or just handpicked the same polynesian elements.
But i think seeking damages of 10 Billion is maybe a bit too much, how about 10 Million

That's not a surprise. The movie is really bad and I'm sure that the fact that it was planned as a tv show didn't help with the candidature.
I'm glad that they didn't get any nomination.

If the judge issues a temporary injunction against Disney, their plan for further Moana movies – including the 2026 live-action Moana movie, the Maui TV show, and a potential Moana 3

I did a search and didn't see anything...were we aware of a potential Maui TV show, or did ScreenRant just speculate?

Some of the claims are very stupid because you can't own Polynesian culture

But yes it's clear they copied him since that's the plot of Moana 1 word by word

Oh, I wasn't even talking about the Bucky lawsuit, just in the ScreenRant article, it mentioned a Maui TV show, which I didn't remember reading about before (but I also have a bad memory).

His story was about a surfer boy in Hawaii taking place in modern times:

Every similarity like the ocean, spirit animals and tatoos seem coincidental because all of it was inspired by Polynesian culture. These lawsuits happen all the time and they are usually dismissed because the evidence is always flimsy. I don't think he has a case.
