Such an insipid song. Snow White deserves better.

I don't like it. Can't imagine this Frozen-like song being in Snow White fairy tale.

Her voice is okay, but the song itself is so out of character for Snow White. It suits Moana more.

It suits the character they wrote here who is gonna take down the patriarchy matriarchy and restore the kingdom. She's not Snow White, she's Asha from Wish.

I am not a fan of Pasek and Paul, but they are very popular for writing exactly that type of song. It will be interesting to see how their new songs mesh with the older, classic songs. I would have liked to have seen Shaiman and Wittman on this project. I think Mary Poppins Returns proves they can write songs that fit that classic Disney vibe— although Poppins is 30 years younger than Snow White!

I just saw the trailer for the movie during my showing of Mufasa and it looked like the inside of the Evil Queen’s crown is stained glass? I thought that was pretty.

The song stands out like a sore thumb compared to the classic songs that were part of the original. The sound is way too contemporary for my liking! Hard pass!

I love the chorus. The verses are okay. We already knew any new songs probably wouldn't fit with the old that well, but they have that little musical twirl just before the chorus. It doesn't make me think of Frozen at all. Actually, what it reminded me of was "Reflection." I agree, I can't imagine the SW in the original singing it, but I couldn't picture that character talking to the Queen or the Prince either, so....

I agree the song is too contemporary and pop and will stick out like a sore thumb. They should have gotten Menken & Schwartz to write the new songs. The song "True Love's Kiss" from Enchanted sounds like it came right out of the original Snow White.

Now, in regards to the footage shown, the outfit, the hairstyle and the camera angles make Zegler look absolutely dreadful there. Very unflattering and unappealing look, overall.

I genuinely believe these people secretly hated her, especially the person who did her hairstyle.

I've just saw the Waiting on a wish sneak peek. The song is not bad at all but in my opinion it doesn't match good with the style of the classic soundtrac. I suposse that they have made some changes to the soundtrack to give it some uniformity and harmony.
I also noticed that in the scene where she's singing in the castle her head looks really big. I don't know if that's the perspective or what but I noticed in all the scenes. The hairstyle doesn't looks good on her but in other scenes she doesn't look so weird. Her hands looks so tiny compared with her head in one scene...

Me, too. I know it's more Snow White via Broadway, but I do love the Broadway sound of the '90s films (that a few of the '10s and '20s films also have) so it's more appealing to me personally. Zegler's voice is very beautiful and I thought she did a good job with such a long shot on her. And several of her mannerisms there make me think of SW, like at one point when she nods her head and then the end when she clutches her hands together to her chest. I think she's doing a great job considering SW the character would be sort of impossible to adapt straight since she's more of a Betty Boop type of toon short character without dimension. How to thread the needle between some of those mannerisms while being more, well, tbh, sentient and thinking at the same time?

I also liked how the spot with the wishing well was overgrown and forgotten. Depending what else we see of the music, I might think about seeing it in theaters. If every theater wasn't an hour away, I definitely would, but what can you do.

I love the song! It’s a beautiful “I Want” number for Snow White, and Rachel is an amazing singer. Watching the scene, I am reminded how she was plucked out of high school to star in Spielberg’s West Side Story. Rags cannot hide her gentle grace.

If the original SW was made today instead of the 1930s, this is how it would sound.

She did a great job in West Side Story. It's a pitty that this version of the film didn't get more attention. In my opinion it was great made and all the cast was wonderful.

The song passes a basic threshold, I suppose. It's closer in my ranking to "Evermore" than "Speechless" or Ariel & Eric's remake songs. Though full disclosure of bias, the song was already starting in the red by supplanting an existing musical moment. I liked the imagery invoked right at the start of the chorus, though I feel like it peters out a little by the time we reach the end and it defaults back to Snow White wondering, "Have I been a secret girlboss all this time?"

I agree that something like "True Love's Kiss" would have sounded like a more natural extension of the animated film's sound, but to me, it's kind of like how "Speechless" sounds jarring next to the 1992 recordings of "A Whole New World" and "Friend Like Me," but sounds congruent with the 2019 recordings of those same songs--which is the real priority.

Whether or not I see the film in theaters (which is very unlikely), I'll still probably have it stuck in my head come this March.

Well, from what was shown, Waiting on a Wish is not particularly bad. It was cute, but the song itself felt disjointed. It felt like two songs stitched together, as the beginning was more traditionally Broadway and felt completely different from the chorus. The chorus was more modern and I liked the orchestrations. But the song itself doesn`t seem to blend with the rest of the songs. Now I that I come to think of it, it was also a problem with Jasmine`s Speechless in the Aladdin remake. And Rachel`s performance and deliverance was insincere and contrived.
Sotiris wrote: Tue Dec 24, 2024 8:31 amI also agree with the above. The Cinderella remake is so overrated. I can't believe there are people who even prefer it over the animated original.
Thanks :) Really? Are there people who truly prefer the remake over the animated original? I know that some people thought Jon Favreau`s remake of The Jungle Book was an improvement over it`s predecessor, but I never knew about the case of Cinderella.

Agreed with your first statement. While True Love's Kiss from Enchanted didn`t sound like it came right out of the original Snow White (in my opinion), it still was made in the same mold. It seemed more suitable in Snow White`s Universe than Waiting on a Wish. But at least it was a deliberate choice, as Menken deliberately wanted to model the songs from Enchanted to Walt`s Princess Triology (sorry for using that term).

Agreed. My only gripe with the remake of West Side Story was how Ansel Elgort as Tony was not handsome enough. Well, at least compared to Richard Beymer in the original. Sorry if my remark comes across as shallow, but I still wanted to say it.

I didn't think the Enchanted songs sounded like they would fitin that era, although they were a better attempt. I don't think P&P were trying very hard to make the new songs sound like the original's though.

It is a nice "I want" song, but SW actually already had two of those. I thought Zegler was good in WSS, but couldn't carry off the ending. Elgort was my main drawback going into WSS, too, but I actually ended up liking him.

What are your favorites over the animated films? My guesses are Ever After and Snow White: A Tale of Terror. Are those the only ones? Is that even correct?
