I was able to track down the beautiful 4K steelbook on ebay, at a very awesome price. I'm super proud of it, actually.

I own both the steelbook and the standard edition. I also own the Blu-ray. I used to own the DVD but gave it away.

This a nice surprise. Just 1/4 hour ago, the lead actress of Disney’s #ThePrincessAndTheFrog, Princess #Tiana herself Anika Noni Rose, saw my reel on Instagram where I unboxed the 3-disc combo pack physical copy of the film for its 15th Anniversary and thanked me for sharing positivity about the classic animated masterpiece of Walt Disney Animation Studios: https://www.instagram.com/stories/anika ... x4aWEwcA==.

So delightful.

Thanks, Anika. ☺️

It looks so beautiful; I keep seeing on Facebook, Instagram and Threads a post about Disney planning on releasing hand drawn animated films in the future. I really hope it's true, because this short clip looks so good.

I've been listening to Mariah Carey's "Almost Home" on repeat out of nowhere the past couple of weeks, and I couldn't help thinking that the song is close to being an End Credits version of "Almost There" that we were denied.

See, that's something else I'll add to my list of the things they should do if/when this film gets a remake:

1. Like I said in another film, they should change the spell somehow so that one of the two main characters is human and the other is frog at all times, with every time they kiss being the way they switch out who is human / frog at any given time. That would fix the main complaint I always heard about the film as far as them being in frog form too long.
2. Incorporate "Never Knew I Needed" into the film for the characters to sing so the film has a proper love duet or have someone write a new one.
3. Give "Almost There" an End Credits version. Or better yet, bring Menken back to write any new songs for Tiana since she almost had and was denied a Menken theme.

Listening to most often lately:
Christina Aguilera ~ "Cruz"
Sombr ~ "homewrecker"
Megan Moroney ~ "Beautiful Things"

In a new interview, John Musker revealed that there was going to be an otter character voiced by Randy Newman where he would be sitting on a piano telling the story to the audience, similar to what Jiminy Cricket does at the beginning of Pinocchio. I think we're all grateful that never came to fruition! :P

Why would I be greatfull when I've never seen the execution of the idea? It could have been terrible, it could have been charming, we'll never know.

I’m pretty sure it was Dr. John who was going to be voicing the otter. I could be wrong.

I think the concept, regardless of execution, isn't very compelling. Personally, I never liked that particular narrative device, so I'm glad it was scrapped. To each their own.

John Musker said Randy Newman was going to voice the character who felt very nervous about it as he had no previous acting experience.

Sorry for bumping this thread, but I watched the movie again yesterday and I wanted to give my thoughts about it. Regardless of how this movie does have it`s own position, for being the big, official return to Hand Drawn Animation (and despite of it`s underperformance and controversy), the truth is that I`ve always considered The Princess and the Frog as good/fine, but not great. Despite how it has great elements, it`s not great as a whole. But to summarize my thoughts about it, the screenplay is tight and smart in the typical John Musker/Ron Clements-fashion.
I like the character designs of Tiana as a human, Naveen (both as a human and frog), Dr. Facilier, Eudora, Louis, James and Mr. La Bouff. The designs for Tiana as a frog, Charlotte, Ray and Mama Odie are very underwhelming. Even Tiana`s wardrobes are underwhelming, as her regular dresses are generic. But at least Tiana as a human has the typical Mark Hehn look, as she looks like a blend of Belle and Mulan.

As for the characters, both Naveen and Facilier are especially great. Naveen (regardless of his flaws) definitively has a spark and charisma to him, to make him truly stand out of the curse of the dull Disney Prince. The same with Facilier, who was rightfully being labeled as the best Disney villain in a long time. But the comedic characters are lackluster. Both Louis and Ray are annoying, despite how none of them sullies the movie. Mama Odie is also forgettable, as she could`ve been like Grandmother Willow, Grandmother Fa and even Tanana and becomes forgettable.
Surprisingly enough, I could live through Charlotte, as she was grating, but not too grating. But frankly, it was somewhat refreshing that Charlotte was spoiled, but also had her heart. And the love triangle between her and the lovebirds was treated well. Sure, the big selling point about Frog is how it`s a return to Hand Drawn and it makes me want it again. And most of the animation is good, despite of some badly animated scenes of some townpeople. And Frog should have kudos for being daring enough to actually kill a sidekick, despite how it`s done deliberately with a purpose.

As for the songs, I like Almost There, Gonna Take You There, Dig a Little Deeper, Never Knew I Needed and Down in New Orleans. The rest of the songs are forgettable. Randy Newman`s score is fine enough. The voice acting is mostly stellar. But as for my gripes for the movie, the truth is that the story drags a little bit in the middle (despite how I`m one of the minorities who liked the rednecks). What happened to Lawrence isn`t particularly handled well.
It`s also a pity how there wasn`t a love duet between the lovebirds. And I also missed a true confrontation between the protagonist and the villain. And sure, the moral of the movie was about needs vs. wants, but at the end, Tiana gets to have her cake and eat it, too. But at the end, The Princess and the Frog is a fine movie, but not a great one. And regardless of it`s controversy, it`s still a honorable return to what Disney used to be.

I'd be curious to hear you elaborate on Prince Naveen. He's been kind of lackluster in my ranking of Disney Princes, so hearing the case for him would be interesting.

I've long felt like Tiana herself sort of transcends the film itself. I think the story, and most of the characters, aren't really bad but lacked striking characterization and/or just didn't synergize.

Facilier is one of the better Disney villains post-Renaissance, but the film disadvantages itself by keeping him and Tiana apart for so long and making Naveen his main item of interest. I think the film would have been more interesting if somehow before Tiana and Naveen had been carried to the bayou, Tiana had somehow done something to mark herself as Facilier's real target, and the engine of the story became Facilier trying to retrieve her instead. Can't think of how to execute that off the top of my head, but I think making your protagonist basically a passenger in her own story causes at least some of the tension to leak.

Well, I think he`s a fun and enjoyable character. He has a charm, a charisma, a spark and a gleam in his eyes. And he`s also witty and funny. Sure, he`s not unflawed, as he does come across as a brat and a playboy. But he`s still so likable that it`s easy to look past that.
