People are saying that the songs are not really good. I haven't heard anything yet because I want to listen everything in the movie to have some surprises. I don't know why but I'm excited to this movie and I was very exceptical at the beginning. In spain they are making a big marketing campaign. It's obvious that they need this movie to earn money and recover themselves about last year's movies flops.
About the merchandise I have to say that I don't see much stuff at shops. I saw Mattel's dolls and a few more things like POP figurines. If the movie is a big hit then they are going to have problems with merchandise because they didn't make much things and parents are going to be like crazy hunting all the products that they find for christmas. They should have be more foresighted with that.

Offtopic but talking about Wish, once again I think Disney should make a short film about Asha in a future movie (Zootopia 2 or the one for 2026) so the merch can at least be sold, just a simple short movie

Re: Moana 2
Moana is very popular and the products from her franchise sell really well and they know it. Relasing more dolls of her is not a problem because stores are going to sell all of them in a few months, Asha had a different problem. Her film was not popular and they released so many models of the doll and there was no difference between them. They also released dolls from characters that nobody liked like Dahlia or the Queen.
I'm sure that people are going to have problems finding merchandise in a few days because the movie is going to be popular and there's no much stuff of it except books.
Today I saw the sticker album from Panini

Re: Moana 2
To add on to what a couple recent posters have said, it seems the consensus of Moana 2, based on my observations on Letterboxd, is that it’s a decent to good sequel that knows what it wants to be and has a clearly defined story, unlike Frozen II which was messy, but the songs, except for maybe one or two, could’ve been better.
Think of it as like an inverse of Frozen II.

Well I liked Frozen II so maybe this one for me is not as good as people think it is! I'm going to see it this Friday so I'll give my opinion then!

Re: Moana 2
This is all just a godsend for theaters after a disastrous year and a half.
I just hope that Moana doesn't end up cannibalizing Wicked, which I genuinely thought was a knockout adaptation. It's doing gangbusters right now, but I still feel like two fantasy-based musicals based on pop culture phenomena playing right next to each other is something of a tightrope, and so I wonder if some of that goodwill is going to leak.

• The Deluxe Edition of the soundtrack is now available as well. It includes 29 score tracks, plus instrumental versions of six of the songs.
• New clip. And I'm not sure if this featurette has been posted or not.
• Dwayne Johnson's daughters make a cameo in the film voicing Moana's fans "The Moanabes."
• Photos and video of some maquettes and artwork on display at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
• The Art of Moana 2 book flip through.
Yeah, I knew they would want to have a similar joke in the sequel.

Here's some more footage from "Can I Get a Chee Hoo?." The visuals remind me a lot of "One Last Hope" from Hercules, but I like the song more now that I've listened to it in full.Sotiris wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2024 4:03 pm Dwayne Johnson Performs "Can I Get a Chee Hoo?"

Sadly I think that Wicked is going to suffer with Moana beein released this week. Lots of families love the first movie and they are going to watch instead of Wicked because they know the franchise and they are sure that kids are going to love it.PatchofBlue wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 4:33 pm This is all just a godsend for theaters after a disastrous year and a half.

Re: Moana 2
I've listened to the soundtrack and the new songs are...fine. They are good enough in an inoffensive, direct-to-video kind of way. They lack the highs of the original ("I Am Moana"), but also the lows of the original ("Shiny"). They are competently written and consistent, despite being more on the bland side. Unlike Wish, trying to mimic LMM here makes sense to create a sense of musical continuity with the original. Having said that, I doubt any of the songs will stand out and become a hit given how derivative and middle-of-the-road they are.

She says that she loves that now a princess can be a heroine too. Can someone make her watch Pocahontas, Mulan and Atlantis? I know that Mulan wasn't a princess in the movie but she's part of the franchise and she's a hero. Beeing a Princess and a hero at the same time is not something new.

Re: Moana 2
Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Tiana, Rapunzel, Elsa, and Anna were also heroic characters to varying degrees. That said, these are sort of pointless feel-good blurbs that don't mean anything*, I don't take offense unless they get over-the-top.
* Same way they'd have those articles noting their "first" LGBT character several times over.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"

Re: Moana 2
I really enjoy the soundtrack.
"Finding the Way" and its reprive remind me a tiny bit of "Thunder" by Imagine Dragons. In a good way, I like the song. I like all the songs on the soundtrack.
I love all the versions of "Beyond.". It's constantly in my head. Auli'i's voice is so amazing!
I prefer "You're Welcome," but "Can I Get a Chee Hoo" is catchy and the visuals look great so far.
I love "We're Back," and that's in my head often too.
I like "Get Lost," but it's not my favorite song on the soundtrack. I'm excited to see the visuals for that one, too.
I see the movie tonight and if I'm awake enough I'll share my thoughts!

Re: Moana 2
Heads up, guys, I saw an early screening of Moana 2 last night as part of the Disney D23 Advance Screenings happening nationwide, and I have just a few more screenings of it planned over the coming week that I got tickets for in IMAX, Dolby Cinema, and RealD 3D.
So here’s my review of Moana 2:
It was charming & really good.
Not as good as the first but a better sequel than Frozen II and/or Ralph Breaks The Internet, along with also being a sequel that had a clearly defined story.
The new songs, with the absence of Lin-Manuel Miranda, don’t all hit and I should assume some will be liked and some will be hated, meaning unlike how Wish’s was hated in that the soundtrack for Moana 2 might be divisive, but Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear (thanks to at least to the advantage of scoring a Grammy win that Wish’s Julia Michaels didn’t have) did have some good new songs like We’re Back, Beyond, and What Could Be Better Than This.
Auli’i and The Rock still got it as Moana and Maui.
And the animation for a movie that was originally a Disney+ series was strong, even on Mini Maui.
In terms of the new characters, Moana’s little sister Simea, the Maui fan named Moni, and the Kakamora that helps Moana and her crew stop the God of Storms are the standouts. And while the new characters don’t get a ton of time to each get developed, they each get their moment and importance to the story. Even the new character that is the inventor named Loto served importance to the story as well.
And the reveal at the third act, without spoiling it, I’m quite interested to see what people will think of it when they see it.
Plus, the mid-credits scene makes me intrigued to see a third Moana, though I hope they hold off on it until the 2030’s.
Really hoping this film is successful enough to make Disney decide to turn the other Walt Disney Animation Studios series for Disney+ called Tiana from a Paperman (but in color)-style animated series into a theatrical fully hand-drawn animated sequel to The Princess and the Frog for a theatrical release in Holiday 2029, with a wide release for Thanksgiving 2029.
And I feel like Disney should do that for Tiana since they turned live-action Lilo & Stitch, Freakier Friday, and Princess Diaries 3 from Disney+ releases into theatrical releases.
But for now, I’m gonna focus on the present and say that, all in all, I’ll give this film either a 7.5 or an 8 out of 10.

If a stan account that has been defending aggressively the movie says the movie is "not as good" you can tell it's pure garbageD23ExpoVisitor25 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 10:02 am Heads up, guys, I saw an early screening of Moana 2 last night as part of the Disney D23 Advance Screenings happening nationwide, and I have just a few more screenings of it planned over the coming week that I got tickets for in IMAX, Dolby Cinema, and RealD 3D.

I saw the Discussingfilm review and they also said something like this, so I guess it's a little bit superior to Wish since we like the characters but it's another generic movie with generic songs that has nothing special to offer
But Frozen 2 was like that and ended up grossing 1.4b so audiences are not the smartest, this movie could make over 1 billion easily

But for the sake of the hope that Tiana can be turned into a hand-drawn animated sequel to The Princess and the Frog if Moana 2 can make that much money and either the anime Lord of the Rings movie or The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie can be nominated and or win at the awards circuit next year to help Tiana/TP&TF2 be hand-drawn animated, I hope you’re right.

Re: Moana 2
Do you know how to read?
I'm saying: IF YOU (a stan account) say the movie is not as good (with your biased opinion) then it truly means that the movie is very mediocre/bad
You also said last year that Wish was a good movie, and it's your opinion so it's respected, but it's clear that you will say positive things about the movies you waited for a whole year to see
